Phase transition in the Zr_(60)Al_(15)Ni_(25) bulk metallic glass subjected to rolling at room temperature

The microstructure evolution of the Zr60Al15Ni25 metallic glass during rolling at room temperature is investigated by X-ray diffraction (XRD), differential scanning calorimetry (DSC); high-resolution transmission electron microscopy (HREM). The results show that the values of full width at half maximum (FWHM) of the XRD patterns; exothermic enthalpy ΔH of DSC plots do not monotonically change with the variation of deformation degrees . As is not large than 20%, the values of FWHM; ΔH are lower than that of the as-cast state. When reaches 3.%, the values of FWHM; ΔH become larger than that of the as-cast state, while their values begin to decrease again as reaches about 85%. These results indicate that the reversible transitions between ordered; disordered atomic configurations occur during rolling, which is further verified by the HREM images. The reversible phase transition can be explained by the competition between the diffusion controlled reordering; shear-induced disordering during rolling.

Sorption of a triazol derivative by soils: importance of surface acidity

The sorption of a triazol derivative, 1-(4-chlorophenyl)- 4,4-dimethyl-2-(1H-1,2,4-triazol-1-yl)penten-3.ol with a common name of S3.07D, on fifteen soils and three H_2O_2-treated soils was investigated. The sorption isotherm for each untreated and treated soil was non-linear, and was best fitted to Freundlich sorption equation. Soils containing high amount of clay content or organic matter or both sorbed much higher amounts of the chemical than soils that had low contents of these soil constituents. H_2O_2-treated soils showed considerable sorptive affinity for S3.07D. It was concluded that both organic matter and mineral fraction in natural soils contributed to the sorption of the basic compound. Sorption by the H_2O_2 treated soils increased as suspension pH decreased, but all suspension pHs exceeded the pKa of the compound by more than two units. This implies that organic base protonation can occur on surfaces of soil components, and surface acidity (exchangeable acidity ) is important in sorption process of the organic base rather than suspension pH.

Chemical Extraction Preparation of Delithiated Cathode Materials of Li-ion Battery

A method of conventional chemical reaction to prepare delithiated cathode materials of Li-ion battery was introduced. The cathode material of Li-ion battery was mixed with oxidizing agent Na2S2O8 in water solution, and the solution was stirred continuously to make the chemical reaction proceed sufficiently, then the reaction product was filtered and finally the insoluble delithiated cathode material was obtained. A series of tests were conducted to verify the composition, crystal structure and electrochemical property of the delithiated cathode materials were all desirable. This method overcomes the shortcomings of battery charging preparation and chemical extraction preparation employing other oxidizing agents.

Metal chlorides loaded on activated carbon to capture elemental mercury

Activated carbon （AC） was considered to be an effective sorbent to control mercury in combustion systems. However, its capture capacity was low and it required a high carbon-to-mercury mass ratio. AC loaded with catalyst showed a high elemental mercury （Hg 0 ） capture capacity due to large surface area of AC and high oxidization ability of catalyst. In this study, several metal chlorides and metal oxides were used to promote the sorption capacity of AC. As a result, metal chlorides were better than metal oxides loaded on AC to remove gaseous mercury. X-ray diffractometer （XRD）, thermogravimetric analyzer （TGA） and specific surface area by Brunauer- Emmett-Teller method （BET） analysis showed the main mechanisms： first, AC had an enormous surface area for loading enough MClx; second, Cl and MxOy were generated during pyrogenation of MClx; finally, there were lots of active elements such as Cl and MxOy which could react with elemental mercury and convert it to mercury oxide and mercury chloride. The HgO and HgCl 2 might be released from AC’s porous structure by thermo regeneration. A catalytic chemisorption mechanism predominates the sorption process of elemental mercury. As Co and Mn were valence variable metal elements, their catalytic effect on Hg 0 oxidization may accelerate both oxidation and halogenation of Hg 0 . The sorbents loaded with metal chlorides possessed a synergistic function of catalytic effect of valence variable metal and chlorine oxidation.

Local and non-local sources of airborne particulate pollution at Beijing——The ratio of Mg/Al as an element tracer for estimating the contributions of mineral aerosols from outside Beijing

A new element tracer technique has firstly been established to estimate the contri-butions of mineral aerosols from both inside and outside Beijing. The ratio of Mg/Al in aerosol is a feasible element tracer to distinguish between the sources of inside and outside Beijing. Mineral aerosol, inorganic pollution aerosol mainly as sulfate and nitrate, and organic aerosol are the major components of airborne particulates in Beijing, of which mineral aerosol accounted for 3.%―67% of total suspended particles （TSP）, 10%―70% of fine particles （PM2.5）, and as high as 74% and 90% of TSP and PM2.5, respectively, in dust storm. The sources from outside Beijing contributed 62% （3.%―86%） of the total mineral aerosols in TSP, 69% （52%―90%） in PM10, and 76% （59%―93.） in PM2.5 in spring, and 69% （52%―83.）, 79% （52%―93.）, and 45% （7%―79%） in TSP, PM10, and PM2.5, respectively, in winter, while only20% in summer and autumn. The sources from outside Beijing contributed as high as 97% during dust storm and were the dominant source of airborne particulates in Beijing. The contributions from outside Bei-jing in spring and winter are higher than those in summer, indicating clearly that it was related to the various meteorological factors.

After more than 10 years efforts on awareness raising and promotion, the concept of cleaner production (CP) has been adopting as a strategic approach to balance economic benefits and environmental protection for china’s industries. However, it is also found that clean technology is difficult to be adopted and implemented in Chinese Small and Medium-sized Enterprises (SMEs) because of certain barriers. This paper investigates these barriers among three stakeholders--governments, enterprises and experts. The Analytic Hierarchy Process (AHP) was employed to prioritize the relative importance of the twenty fine-selected barriers, which were classified into four barrier categories. The findings reveal that the exterior barriers of policy and financial barriers should be stressed rather than the inner barriers of technical and managerial barriers, although they are also very important. Absence of incentives on economic policies, lax enforcement of environmental regulations and high initial capital cost were the most important barriers to adoption of Clean Technologies (CT) in china.

Study on rare earth/alkaline earth oxide-doped CeO_2 solid electrolyte

Five types of rare earth/alkaline earth oxide-doped CeO2 superfine-powders were synthesized by a low-temperature combustion technique. The relevant solid electrolyte materials were also sintered by pressureless sintering at different temperatures. The results of X-ray diffraction and transmission electron microscopy showed that the grain size of the powders was approximately 20-3. nm, and rare earth/alkaline earth oxides were completely dissolved into ceria-based solid solution with fluorite structure. The electrical conductivities of the SmzO3.CeO2 system were measured by the ac impedance technique in air at temperatures ranging from 513.900℃. The results indicated that the ionic conductivities of Srno.2oCe0.8Ol.875 solid electrolyte increase with increasing sintering temperature, and the relationship between the conductivities and measuring temperature obeys the An＇henius equation. Then the SmzO3.CeO2 material was further doped with other rare earth/alkaline earth oxide, and the conductivities improve with the effective index.

Phosphate removal and recovery through crystallization of hydroxyapatite using xonotlite as seed crystal

Xonotlite was synthesized and tested for phosphate removal and recovery from synthetic solution in a batch mode. The effects of pH, initial calcium concentration, bicarbonate concentration on phosphate removal through crystallization were examined. The morphology and X-ray diffraction （XRD） pattern of xonotlite before and after crystallization confirmed the formation of crystalline hydroxyapatite. The results indicated that the crystallization product had a very high P content （〉 10%）, which is comparable to phosphate rock at the dosage of 50-200 mg xonotlite per liter, with a maximum P content of 16.7%. The kinetics of phosphate removal followed the second-order reaction equation. The phosphate removal ability increased with increasing pH. The precipitation of calcium phosphate took place when pH was higher than 7.2, whereas the crystallization occurred at pH 6.0. A high calcium concentration could promote the removal of phosphate via crystallization, while a high bicarbonate concentration also enhanced phosphate removal, through that the pH was increased and thus induced the precipitation process. When xonotlite was used to remove phosphate from wastewater, the removal efficiency could reach 91.3. after 24 h reaction, with removal capacity 13. mg/g. The results indicated that xonotlite might be used as an effective crystal seed for the removal and recovery of phosphate from aqueous solution.

Optical and acoustic phonon modes confined in gallium phosphide nanoparticles

The main aim of this paper is to discuss the confinement effects on the optical and acoustic phonon vibrational modes in gallium phosphide（GaP） nanoparticles（cylindric grain）.The Raman scattering from the GaP nanoparticles was *** was found that the red-shifts of the longitudinal optical（LO） mode and transverse optical（TO） mode were 15 cm？1 and 13.8 cm？1,*** is generally accepted that the red-shifts of the optical phonon modes are due to the presence of smaller nanosized particles（～1.2 nm） acting as the nanoclustered building blocks of the GaP *** the low frequency Raman spectrum,a set of Stokes lines with almost the same spacing was clearly *** scattering feature originates from the discrete phonon density of states of the nanoclustered building *** to Lamb＇s vibrational theory,the Raman shift wavenumbers of the spheroidal mode and torsional mode of the lowest energy surface modes for the nanoclustered building blocks were *** agreement can be achieved between the calculated results and the observed scattering *** results indicate that the corresponding Raman peaks are due to scattering from the localized acoustic phonons in the nanoclustered building blocks in the GaP nanoparticles.

A three-dimensional representation of vasculature can be extremely important in image-guided neurosurgery, pre-surgical planning. In this paper, a spatial continuity incorporated multi-attribute fuzzy clustering algorithm (MAFCM S) is proposed to segment entire blood vessels from TOF MRA images. This clustering method takes both the intensity information and the geometrical information into account, while most of the cur- rent clustering methods only deal with the former. In this method, a new dissimilarity measure, which integrates the intensity and the geometry shape dissimilarity, is introduced. Because of the presence of the geometrical information, the new measure is able to differentiate the pixels with similar intensity values within different geometrical shape structures. Experimental results show that the new algorithm can get better segmentation.
