Human papillomavirus 58 (HPV58) is one type of HPV with high risk of causing cervical cancer. Unusually high prevalence of HPV58 has been reported in Asia, Africa and some other areas. However, due to the scattered distribution of global data, in addition to the lack of data of some HPV58 high-incidence nations and regions, like china's Mainland, a comprehensive analysis of the global geographical distribution of HPV58 remains blank so far. In this study, HPV58 from the human cervical cancer tissue was detected in china's Mainland, and 14 new HPV58-E6/L1 gene sequences were obtained. Moreover, phylogeographic analysis has been conducted combining the HPV58 sequences that have been deposited in GenBank since 1985. The study result shows that the sequences detected from the shanghai, Jiangsu and Sichuan areas are homologous with those found in the past from Hong Kong and Xi'an, china, as well as Japan and other Southeast Asian areas. Furthermore, Western Africa is considered to be the "root" source of the HPV58 variant, while china's Mainland and Southeast Asia are "transit points" and the new sources of HPV58 after receiving the isolates from the "root" source; like HPV16 and HPV18, the HPV58 might also be one of the major HPV types associated with the development and spread of cervical cancer.

A method of conventional chemical reaction to prepare delithiated cathode materials of Li-ion battery was introduced. The cathode material of Li-ion battery was mixed with oxidizing agent Na2S2O8 in water solution, and the solution was stirred continuously to make the chemical reaction proceed sufficiently, then the reaction product was filtered and finally the insoluble delithiated cathode material was obtained. A series of tests were conducted to verify the composition, crystal structure and electrochemical property of the delithiated cathode materials were all desirable. This method overcomes the shortcomings of battery charging preparation and chemical extraction preparation employing other oxidizing agents.

In this study, a series of acrylic ester resins with different pore size distribution were prepared successfully by varying the type and the amount of pore-forming agents. In order to inves-tigate the adsorption behavior and mechanism of surfactants on acrylic ester resins, three kinds of surfactants were utilized as adsorbates that were sodium 6-dodecyl benzenesulfonate (6-NaDBS), sodium 1-dodecyl benzene sulfonate (1-NaDBS) and sodium 1-dodecyl sulfonate, respectively. It was observed that the surface area was available in a particular pore size and an appropriate pore size of resins appeared to be more important for the adsorption of surfactants. As compared to commercial acrylic ester resins XAD-7 and HP2MG, 50# and 3.# resins exhibited more excellent adsorption properties toward 1-NaDBS and 6-NaDBS. The experimental equilibrium data were fitted to the Langmuir, and double-Langmuir models. Two models provided very good fittings for all resins over the temperature range studied. The investigation indicated that electrostatic attraction and hydrogen bond between resins and surfactants were the main forces and had an obvious effect on adsorption proc-ess.

AIM: To investigate the possible relationships between alterations in circadian rhythm of melatonin, cortisol andbronchial asthma. METHODS: Salivary melatonin and cortisol were measured simultaneously by radioimmunoas-say in 10 mild intermittent or persistent patients, 11 moderate-to-severe persistent asthma patients, and 15 controlsubjects. Twelve salivary samples were collected in a series during a 24-h period in each subject. RESULTS: Theresults showed overall lower levels of salivary melatonin in asthma patients compared with control subject(P<0.01). The amplitude, peak-level, and baseline of salivary melatonin were significantly lower in mild intermit-tent or persistent (P<0.01, P<0.05) and moderate-to-severe persistent asthma patients (P<0.01) compared withcontrol group. The 24-h mean level of salivary cortisol was greatly lower and the acrophase was markedly delayedin patients with mild intermittent or persistent asthma (P<0.01) and moderate-to-severe persistent asthma (P<0.05, P<0.01) compared with control subject. CONCLUSION: Disordered circadian rhythms of salivary melato-nin and cortisol were found in asthma patients, which may be involved in the pathogenesis of bronchial asthma.

The influence of low volume fraction of polypropylene（PP） fibers on the tensile properties of normal and high strength concretes was studied. The experimental results indicate that the addition of PP fibers in concrete leads to a reduction in tensile strength during the age of 28 d. Whereas, after 28 days, there is a notable effect in tensile strength due to PP fibers restraining the formation and growth of microcracks in concrete, which improves the continuity and integrality of concrete structure, Thus, a low volume fraction of PP fibers is beneficial to enhancing the long-term tensile strength of concrete materials and improving the durability of concrete structures.

Ethylene-Vinyl Acetate （EVA） redispersible powder and latex were used to modify mortar. Three kinds of curing regimes： standard curing, high temperature curing and freeze-thaw circle curing were adopted to cure the bonded samples. Bonding strength of EVA modified mortar was tested at 28 days. The development of bonding strengths under all three curing regimes were discussed and compared. The experimental results show that bonding strength increases with the increase of EVA content in mortar. The curing regime used within 28 days is critical according to the bonding strengths values under three curing regimes for different ages. The reasons of that the EVA can improve the bonding strength were analyzed.

Reconstruction of genetic networks is one of the key scientific challenges in functional genomics. This paper describes a novel approach for addressing the regulatory dependencies be-tween genes whose activities can be delayed by multiple units of time. The aim of the proposed ap-proach termed TdGRN (time-delayed gene regulatory networking) is to reversely engineer the dy-namic mechanisms of gene regulations, which is realized by identifying the time-delayed gene regu-lations through supervised decision-tree analysis of the newly designed time-delayed gene expres-sion matrix, derived from the original time-series microarray data. A permutation technique is used to determine the statistical classification threshold of a tree, from which a gene regulatory rule(s) is ex-tracted. The proposed TdGRN is a model-free approach that attempts to learn the underlying regula-tory rules without relying on any model assumptions. Compared with model-based approaches, it has several significant advantages: it requires neither any arbitrary threshold for discretization of gene transcriptional values nor the definition of the number of regulators (k). We have applied this novel method to the publicly available data for budding yeast cell cycling. The numerical results demonstrate that most of the identified time-delayed gene regulations have current biological knowledge supports.

AIM: To clone the cDNA of a new member of snake venom C-type lectin-like proteins, to study its structure- function relationships and to achieve its recombinant production. METHODS: PCR primers were designed based on the homology and cDNA was amplified by RT-PCR using total RNA from snake venom gland as the template. The PCR products were cloned into the plasmid pGEM-T and sequenced. The deduced protein sequence was analyzed with some bioinformatic programs. A recombinant expression plasmid was constructed using pBAD- TOPO as vector and transformed into *** TOP10 competent cells. RESULTS: A novel cDNA sequence encod- ing akitonin β was found and accepted by GenBank (accession number AF3.7100). Akitonin β consists of a typical carbohydrate recognition domain (CRD) of C-type lectins, and it is homologous with other snake venom C-type lectin-like proteins. It was predicted to be a platelet antagonist. Upon induction with arabinose rAkitonin β express- ing in E coli was achieved at a high level (superior to 150 mg/L). The recombinant fusion protein exhibited inhibitory activities on rat platelet aggregation in vitro. CONCLUSION: A new member of snake venom C-type lectin-like proteins was discovered and characterized, and an efficient recombinant expression system was estab- lished for its production.

Aim:To study whether gum mastic,a natural resin,can regulate maspin expres-sion in prostate cancer cells,and further investigate the mechanisms involved inthis regulatory ***:RT-PCR and Western blotting were used todetect maspin expression at the transcriptional and translational *** assay was used to investigate the effect of gum mastic on the maspin *** binding activity of negative androgen-responsive element (ARE) and posi-tive Spl element in the maspin promoter were studied by electrophoretic mobilityshift ***:Gum mastic induced maspin mRNA and protein expression,and the maspin promoter activity was enhanced with gum mastic ***,gum mastic inhibited the ARE binding activity and increased the Sp 1 bindingactivity in the maspin ***:Gum mastic enhances maspin pro-moter activity by suppressing ARE binding activity and enhancing Spl bindingactivity,and the increased activity in the maspin promoter finally leads to the up-regulation of both its mRNA and protein levels.
