Volcanic rocks from the northern and middle Okinawa Trough were dated by ura- nium-series dating method. Differential fractions using magnetic procedure were designed to separate samples. New report on the ages and isotopic data of rocks in the northern trough (especially black pumice) was discussed. Based on the uranium dates and Sr-Nd isotopic ratio, magmatic evolution process of the Okinawa Trough was noted. Firstly, there have been wide silicic volcanic activities in the Okinawa Trough from late Pleistocene to present, and the volcanic rocks can be divided into three subgroups. Secondly, magma generally came from PREMA source area under the Okinawa Trough. Magmatic evolution in the northern trough was similar to the middle, but different to the south. Finally, volcanic activities indicated that opening of the southern Okinawa Trough did not happen due to the collision between Luson Arc and Eurasian Plate until the early Pleistocene.

The Langshan-Huangbaisi fault zone in northwest beijing is the southwestern part of the normal fault zone on the northern margin of the Yanqing basin, 3..5km long and NNE-NEE-trending in general, on which two major 13.°- 14.° bends separate it into three segments with different *** the Hack’s method, 71 longitudinal stream-profiles along the fault zone are analysed, shawing a well geomorphic response to the fault geometry. On these two major bends the gradient indices,K values, are relatively high. These three segments greatly differ in K *** stream-profiles are good tectonic-geomorphic indicators for geometric Segmentation of normal faults and will prqvide insight into segmented kinematics and paleoseismology.

We briefly reviewed the experimental study on a-delayed proton decays near the proton drip line published by our group during the period of 1996―2004. namely the first observation of the a-delayed proton decays of 9 new nuclides in the rare-earth region and the new measurements of a-delayed proton decays of 5 nuclides in the mass ～90 region near the N = Z line with the aid of the “p-?” coincidence in combination with a He-jet tape transport system. In the meantime some important experimental technique details were supplemented. The experimental results, including the half -lives, spins, parities, deformations and production reaction cross sections for the 14.nuclei were summarized and compared with the current nuclear-model predictions, and then the following points were represented. (1) The experimental half-lives for 85Mo and 92Rh as well as the predicted “waiting point” nuclei 89Ru and 93.d are 5―10 times longer than the theoretical predictions given by M?ller et al. using a macroscopic-microscopic model. It considerably influences the predictions of the abundances of the nuclides produced in the rp-process. (2) The current-model predictions are not consistent with the experimental assignments of the spins and parities for the proton drip-line nuclei 14.Ho and 128Pm. However, the nuclear potential energy surface (PES) calculated by using a Woods- Saxon-Strutinsky method reproduced the experimental results. (3. The Alice code overestimated the production reaction cross sections of the studied 9 rare-earth nuclei by one order of magnitude or two, while HIVAP code overestimated them by one order of magnitude approximately.

The buildings and structures of mines were monitored automatically using modern surveying technology. Through the analysis of the monitoring data, the deformation characteristics were found out from three aspects containing points, lines and regions, which play an important role in understanding the stable state of buildings and structures. The stability and deformation of monitoring points were analysed, and time-series data of monitoring points were denoised with wavelet analysis and Kalman filtering, and exponent function and periodic function were used to get the ideal deformation trend model of monitoring points. Through calculating the monitoring data obtained, analyzing the deformation trend, and cognizing the deformation regularity, it can better service mine safety production and decision-making.

Based on the daily outgoing longwave radiation (OLR) data from National Oceanic and At- mospheric Administration (NOAA) satellites, the Cli- mate Prediction Center’s merged analysis of pre- cipitation (CMAP) data and the National Centers for Environmental Prediction/National Center for At- mospheric Research (NCEP/NCAR) reanalysis dataset, the mean intraseasonal variability of the Asian summer monsoon (ASM) is investigated by using power spectrum analysis, band-pass filter, and diagnostic analyses. The processes of the onset and advance of monsoon over the southern part of Indo- china Peninsula, the east coast of Bay of Bengal, the South china Sea and the Indian subcontinent are explored. It is found that there is an abrupt change in OLR, precipitation and zonal wind during the onset and advance of the ASM. It is also indicated that the southern part of Indochina Peninsula and the adja- cent Andaman Sea is the region where the earliest onset of the ASM occurs in the 2nd pentad of May.

The probability of the last proton being out of the binding potential, P and the root-mean-square (rms) ra- dius (1/2= of the third excited state in 21Na are calcu- lated by means of asymptotic normalization coefficient (ANC) method with the experimental date existing. The results are P=54.73. and 1/2=5.28 fm respectively. The P value and the contribution of the asymptotic part to the 1/2 are compared with those of several other low energy states in 21Na. It is found that the valence particle in the third excited state has an obvious larger P than those of other states. The density distribution of the valence proton in this state is also compared with the nucleons in the nuclear core 20Ne, and a far extended tail can be seen clearly. These results show that the third ex- cited state in 21Na is a proton halo state.

Based on field geological survey, structural measurements and classical Ar/Ar dating of mica, biotite and K-feldspar, we obtain cooling ages for Miocene left-lateral shear along the Xianshuihe fault zone. The results document two thermal events during the sinistral shear. The early event (12-10 Ma) corresponds to rapid cooling of the Zheduoshan granitic massif from above 700℃ to below 3.0℃. The late event (5-3.5 Ma) corresponds to cooling of granites intruded along the eastern side of the fault zone. These dating results provide important thermochronological constraint on the timing of late Cenozoic eastward extrusion of the Chuan-Dian Block in the SE Tibetan margin.

The development, state of art and prospects of application of the radar remote sensing technique are presented. The principle of the INSAR (Interferometric Synthetic Aperture Radar) technique is expounded in more details. Some applications of this technique in measuring seismic dislocations are given. Finally, it is pointed out that INSAR has a non replaceable application potential in observing ground surface vertical deformations; it would provide an entirely new means and method for monitoring the dynamic field of earthquakes and give an extremely great impetus to the future earthquake prediction work.

Minerals of spinel- and garnet-facies mantle xenoliths entrained in Cenozoicbasalts from eastern china (North china, Northeastern china and Southeastern china coastal area)contains lots of melt inclusions. Studies on these melt inclusions show that the glass inclusionsare rich in SiO_2 (60%—68%) and alkalis (K_2O+Na_2O = 5%—11%, especially for K_2O) as well asvolatiles such as H_2O and CO_2 (2%—7%), which belong to dacites and andesites of the high-K calcicalkali series rocks with few shoshonites. High Al and Ca diopside in melt inclusion is the productof melt crystallization at high temperature and pressure, rather than the product ofdevitrification. Results show that these K-rich (in general K_2O > {4.) intermediate-acidic silicatemelt inclusions have characteristics of continent without a genetical link to host basalts and theirphenocrystic minerals. Thus, these trapped melt inclusions represent melts of Mesozoic lithosphericmantle-crust interaction and imply that the continental lithospheric mantle beneath eastern chinahad undergone fragmentation and recreation processes during the Mesozoic and Cenozoic periods. Thisresult undoubtly provides important implication for the evolution of sub-continental lithospherebeneath eastern china. We propose that these Si- and alkalis-rich melts should be responsible forthe mantle chemical heterogeneity underneath eastern china.
