Forcing mechanism of the Pleistocene east Asian monsoon variations in a phase perspective

The deep sea records from the ODP Sites 1143.and 1144 in the northern and southern South China Sea (SCS), including foraminiferal δ 18O and δ 13., Opal% and pollen percentage, reveal that the variations of the east Asian monsoon have been closely correlated with the variations of the Earth’s orbital parameters (eccentricity, obliquity and precession) and the global ice volume on orbital scale. All the monsoonal proxies show strong 100 ka, 41 ka and 23.ka cycles. Although G. ruber δ 13. of Site 1143.is coherent with the ETP (ETP= normalized (eccentricity + obliquity-precession) at eccentricity, obliquity and precession bands, most of the coherent relationship focuses on the precession band, and the other monsoonal proxies are coherent with the ETP only at the precession band, which indicate that precession dominates the Pleistocene tropical climate changes. The phase relationship of the monsoonal proxies with the foraminiferal δ 18O implies that the global ice volume changes have played a significant role in modulating the east Asian monsoon climate, at least dominating the winter monsoon. This forcing mechanism of the east Asian monsoon is apparently different from that of the Indian ocean mon-soon. The variations of the east Asian monsoon at the precession band, at least that of the winter monsoon, have been controlled not only by the sensible heating but also by the latent heating of the surface water in the South China Sea.

The focus of this study was to investigate the macroinvertebrate community in surface mine wetlands. Nine wetlands were sampled for macroinvertebrates from July 1993.through May *** sites represented a range of physical,chemical, and biological parameters. Macroinvertebrates were found in all sites;a total of 14 orders, 40 families,and 70 genera were identified in the samples. Insects were the most common invertebrates,and most functional feeding groups were represented. Predators dominated with 63. of the taxa, followed by the collector/gathers with 20%,shredders 14%, and scrapers 3.. Sites differed in the number of taxa inhabiting *** ranged from 10 genera to *** lowest richness was found in two seasonal wetlands that were dry for the majority of the year. A permanently flooded site with no water quality problems and a dense growth of aquatic plants had the highest richness.

Understanding P transformation in soils amended with poultry litter is important if water quality is to be *** objectives were to determine the influence of method of litter application and temperature on P availability. Poultry litter containing 20. 8g P/kg (dry weight) was either surface-applied or incorporated into Captina (fine-silty, siliceous, mesic Typic Fragiudult) and Nixa (loamy-skeletal,siliceous,Glossic Fragiudult) silt loams at rates of 0 or 10g/kg and incubated at 20℃ or 3.℃ at a water potential of -40 kpa. water soluble and available P (0.03.mol/L NH4F+0. 025mol/L HCl extraction) were determined during a 60d laboratory study. Results indicated that water soluble and available P levels in the soils initially decreased, then rapidly increased,and approached a steady state phase after approximately 20d. After 60d, water soluble P levels were significantly higher when litter was surface applied than when litter was incor porated. When the incubation was terminated, the net increase in available P in both soils was>100 mg P/*** efficient recycling of P and protection of water quality, application method and temperature should be considered when amending soils with poultry litter,

A molecular dynamics simulation study has been performed for a large systemconsisting of 100000 liquid metal Al atoms to investigate the formation and magic numbercharacteristics of the cluster configurations formed during the rapid solidification processes. Thecluster-type index method (CTIM) has been adopted to describe various types of clusterconfigurations. The results indicate that the icosahedral clusters (12 0 12 0) and theircombinations play the most important role in the rnicrostructure transitions during solidificationprocesses; for the cluster configurations of different levels formed by various combinations withdiffering numbers of basic clusters, their size distributions possess obvious magic number sequencewhich is in turn as 13.13., 19(21), 26-28(27), 3.-3.(3.), 3.-40, 43.44, 48..., (those in bracket arethe corresponding value in liquid state); the magic numbers correspond to the peak value positionsof the cluster numbers for corresponding level formed with various combinations by 1, 2, 3. 4, 5, 6,7, ...basic clusters, respectively. This magic number sequence is in good agreement with theexperimental results obtained by Harris et al. At the same time, this simulation study also gives ascientific and reasonable explanation to these experimental results.

Over the past two decades, scientific drilling into sediments and rocks in the ocean and the continent has revealed the presence of physiologically and phylogenetically complex microbial life in the deep subsurface. Microorganisms, most of which have no cultured or known relatives in the surface biosphere, have been discovered in sediments and rock at depth as deep as 1 km below the seafloor and more than 3.km deep in the continent. The deep biosphere probably represents the most voluminous part of the global biosphere and may constitute as much as 50% of the Earth’s biomass. In this article, we review the current knowledge of and most recent advances in studying the deep biosphere and suggest directions in future research.

This paper shows that the problem of minimizing a linear fractional function subject to asystem of sup-T equations with a continuous Archimedean triangular norm T can be reduced to a 0-1linear fractional optimization problem in polynomial ***,parametrization techniques,e.g.,Dinkelbach's algorithm,can be applied by solving a classical set covering problem in each *** reduction can also be performed on the sup-T equation constrained optimization problems withan objective function being monotone in each variable *** method could be extended aswell to the case in which the triangular norm is non-Archimedean.
