A three-dimensional variational ocean data assimilation system:Scheme and preliminary results

A new 3.VAR-based Ocean Variational Analysis System (OVALS) is developed. OVALS is capable of assimilating in situ sea water temperature and salinity observations and satellite altimetry data. As a component of OVALS, a new variational scheme is proposed to assimilate the sea surface height data. This scheme considers both the vertical correlation of background errors and the nonlinear temperature-salinity relationship which is derived from the generalization of the linear balance constraints to the nonlinear in the 3.VAR. By this scheme, the model temperature and salinity fields are directly adjusted from the altimetry data. Additionally, OVALS can assimilate the temperature and salinity profiles from the ARGO floats which have been implemented in recent years and some temperature and salinity data such as from expendable bathythermograph, moored ocean buoys, etc. A 21-year assimilation experiment is carried out by using OVALS and the Tropical Pacific circulation model. The results show that the assimilation system may effectively improve the estimations of temperature and salinity by assimilating all kinds of observations. Moreover, the root mean square errors of temperature and salinity in the upper depth less than 420 m reach 0.63. and 0.3. psu.

Strong decays of N~*(153.) in an extended chiral quark model

The strong decays of the N*(153.) resonance are investigated in an extended chiral quark model by including the low-lying $ qqqq\bar q $ components in addition to the qqq component. The results show that these five-quark components in N*(153.) contribute significantly to the N*(153.) → Nπ and N*(153.) → Nη decays. The contributions to the Nη decay come from both the lowest energy and the next-tolowest energy five-quarks components, while the contributions to the Nπ decay come from only the latter one. Taking these contributions into account, the description for the strong decays of N*(153.) is improved, especially for the puzzling large ratio of the decays to Nη and Nπ.

This paper aims at generally studying on the inclusions of ZGG06Cr13.i4Mo ultra-low carbon stainless steel used for large scale hydraulic turbine sets. On the basis of analysis the industrial test samples, thermodynamic software FactSage is used to study inclusions transformation process in CaO-SiO2-Al2O3.MgO system while stainless steel is been smelting. The results illustrate the inclusions melting points and plasticity variation law. The reasonable inclusions plasticity controlling area is found out in low melting point. The melting point is up to 1280℃ While MgO weight concentration is 10% in CaO-SiO2-Al2O3.MgO system, SiO2, Al2O3.and CaO in inclusions are in weight concentration range of 50-70%, 10-20% and 10-40%, respectively. For purpose of gaining low melting point inclusions, silicon alumina radio in deoxidant should be controlled between 2-5 for ultra-low carbon stainless steel refining in industry.

TIANSHAN in southern Xinjiang belongs to the Paleozoic island arc system in which volcanic rocks are extensively distributed. A series of epithermal gold deposits such as the Axi, Xitan, Cuiling andShuangfengshan gold deposits have been discovered. 1 Geological settings of epithermal gold deposits in Tianshan, southern Xinjiang Tianshan in southern Xinjiang belongs to the Paleozoic island arc system. To its north is the Kazakhstan plate, and to its north is the Tarim plate. From west to east, the tectonic units are characterizedby Yili island arc, southern Tianshan arc-basin, Jiaoluotage island arc and Xingxingxia island arc. The LaMn1-xTexO3.δ (x=0.1, 0.2, 0.3. were synthesized using solid-state reaction method for the first time. X-ray photoemission spectrum (XPS) shows that in the samples the Te ions have a valence of Te4+, and Mn3. ions are partly converted into Mn2+ and Mn4+ due to the excess oxygen and Te doping. The magnetotransport associated with Mn2+, Mn3. and Mn4+ was investigated. The experimental results show that the samples are insulator at 0 T when the amount of Mn3. is much larger or less than the sum of Mn2+ and Mn4+; by contrast, the samples display metal to insulator transition with increasing temperature when the amount of Mn3. is close to the sum of Mn2+ and Mn4+. These anomalous magnetotransport behaviors were analyzed in the frame of the double-exchange (DE) mechanism.

A new real-time algorithm for the autonomous navigation of mobile robots equipped with laser scanners is proposed in this *** from the existing algorithms designed for 2-dimensional navigation problems,the new algorithm introduces the height information of the obstacles into the guidance process and behaves as a 2.5-dimensional angle potential field algorithm (2.5D-APF) to fulfill the navigation requirements under complex outdoor terrain ***,one laser scan is partitioned into two kinds of function sectors: guidance sector and inspecting ***,the guidance sector and the inspecting sectors are reconstructed to form a virtual guidance scan,where the 2.5D information is taken into ***,the conventional APF is improved to analyze the virtual guidance scan and generate the navigation *** new algorithm is tested on a tracked mobile robot,and the experimental results validate the proposed algorithm.

Spatial scale error is one of the most serious problems in the estimates of land surface heat fluxes of sensible and latent from satellite-borne data such as MODIS 1km resolution reflectance and emissive data. One of the feasible and economic ways to decrease the spatial scale error is to use high resolution land use class data together with the MODIS data. CBERS-02 data were used to produce land use class of Baiyangdian area, Hebei Province, china in the autumn of 2004. The area ratio of each class in MODIS pixel was calculated, and used to derive the heat fluxes of the mixed pixel. The results showed that the estimated heat fluxes of soil, sensible and latent have been changed remarkably after using the high resolution land class data. It could be concluded from the comparison between simulated and ground-measured fluxes as well as the theoretical analysis that high resolution land class data are useful to diminishing the scale error of heat fluxes estimated from low resolution satellite data.

Influence of CO2 corrosion on reservoir mineralogical composition,pore structure and their mechanical characteristics was studied using XRD,SEM,rock tri-axial machine and core flow experimental *** was found that the corrosion effect was mainly attributed to rock texture and structure,fluid composition and external dynamical conditions in the experimental *** cores with bedding structures,their bedding surfaces were the preferential corrosion regions,because micro-cracks would evolve at these surfaces in the pressure-releasing ***,for cores with massive structures controlled by stable water environment,the CO2 corrosion would result in pore enlargement and secondary pore *** gas velocity from outlet showed sharp increase in the injection process of CO2-H2O *** could be explained by two changes caused by *** was the opening and closure of *** other was particle *** the corrosion time increased,both tensile strength and compressive strength decreased,which confirmed decrease of cementation *** should also be noted that permeability increase and micro-cracks generation would pose damage to the capacity of CO2 geological storage.
