Experimental and discrete element numerical analysis of side slope instability induced by fissure water underlying impervious bed

When the sliding mass contains impervious bed, rainfall can infiltrate into mountain via crevices and form higher artesian aquifer at impervious bed inferior. This will decrease slip resistance and increase sliding forces of the sliding mass, thus lowering the safety factor, and inducing landslide disasters. In this paper, a landslide experimental apparatus is designed for experimental studies on the mechanism of this type of landslides. Meanwhile, the non-dimensional parameters in the model experiment are taken into account using dimensional analysis. The experimental results show that (1) the ratio of the cleft water pressure to the overlying pressure is a crucial parameter affecting the stability of the slope; (2) when the shut-in pressure reaches 80% of the normal component of the pressure on the slip surface made up of rock and soil, landslide will occur; (3. the whole slope will start to slide when the shut-in pressure is equal to the normal component of the pressure formed by the overlying rock and soil on the upper 3.% area. In this article, a discrete element method simulation is used to investigate the influence of cleft water pressure and shearing strength on the landslide stability. It can be concluded that the critical value of Ccr, ?cr, which determines the slide mass stability, increases with the increase of the water pressure; if the water pressure reaches a high level, the stability of the slide mass depends mainly on C, while the influence of ? becomes smaller than C.

AIMS: Terminalia Catappa L. is a combretaceous plant broadly distributing on tropical andsubtropical areas. The leaves of this plant have been used as a folk medicine for treatinghepatitis in Indian, Philippines, and some other areas. Our previous studies showed that thechloroform fraction from ethanol extract of Terminalia Catappa L. leaves (TCCE) exertedantioxidative, anti-inflammatory and hepatoprotective activities, but the mechanisms remainunknown. The present research focused on investigating the antihepatotoxic mechanisms ***: Both CCl induced acute liver damage and D-GalN induced hepatocyte injurymodels were adopted to study the antihepatotoxic role of TCCE. At the same time, the level ofIL-6 mRNA in insulted liver was analyzed using RT-PCR, and the mitochondrial membranepotential (△ψm) and intramitochondrial Ca concentration ([Ca]m) were detected withRh123.and Fura-2/AM staining respectively. Furthermore, normal liver mitochondria wereprepared and the effects of two components isolated from TCCE, ursolic acid (UA) andasiatic acid (AA), on Ca- induced mitochondrial swelling, and their scavenging activities onfree radicals were ***: (1) In acute hepatic injury test, it was found that the increase in activities ofaspartate aminotransferase (AST) and alanine aminotransferase (ALT) induced by CCl wassignificantly reversed with pretreatment of 20, 50 or 100mg/kg TCCE, which were confirmedin the histological changes such as the inhibition of inflammatory cell infiltration, hepatocyteswelling and councillmam body formation in injured mouse liver. (2) In hepatocytes, D-GalNinduced damage could be blocked by the addition of TCCE. (3. Significant increase in IL-6mRNA level, dissipation of △ψm (14.8 %) and [Ca]m overload (2.1 fold) induced by CClwas remarkably decreased by pretreatment of TCCE. (4) Both UA and AA at theconcentrations ranging from 25 to 100μg/ml showed superoxide anions and hydroxyl radicalsscavenging activities in a dose-dep
