We carded out experiments to evaluate the impacts of UV radiation(UVR, 280-400nm)on photosynthetic carbon fixation of phytoplankton assemblages from coastal waters of the South China Sea during March 2004 - Sep *** surface samples were taken and exposed to different radiation treatments using sharp cut-off filters,receiving full spectrum of solar radiation(PAB,280-700nm),PA(3.0-700nm) that filtered out of UV-B(280-3.0nm),and P(400-700nm)that cut off both UV-A and UV-B(3.0-400nm).Solar UVR significantly inhibited photosynthetic carbon fixation rates of phytoplankton assemblages during spring and winter,with UV-A accounting for most of the observed inhibition;little UVR-induced inhibition was observed during *** view of the photosynthetic performance among different weather conditions,phytoplankton cells appeared to be able to utilize UVR under low levels of solar irradiances on the cloudy *** mean values of assimilation number(ASN)were 2.83.spring)7.62(summer),and 4.3.μg C(μg chl a)h (winter)under PAR,and were 1.57,5.70,2.71μg C(μg chl a)hunder PAR+UVR, *** a concentration ranged from 0.99-1.12 in the spring, 1.12-16.2 in the summer and 0.72-1.3. μg/L in the *** period showed the highest ASN and the lowest UVR-related *** the summer period, higher temperature might have led to faster enzymatic reactions for the repair of UVR-induced damages,and stratification(less vertical mixing)could result in higher abundance of the species tolerating high levels of PAR and UVR.

A class of El Nino atmospheric physics oscillation model is considered. The El Nino atmospheric physics oscillation is an abnormal phenomenon involved in the tropical Pacific ocean-atmosphere interactions. The conceptual oscillator model should consider the variations of both the eastern and western Pacific anomaly patterns. An El Nino atmospheric physics model is proposed using a method for the variational iteration theory. Using the variational iteration method, the approximate expansions of the solution of corresponding problem are constructed. That is, firstly, introducing a set of functional and accounting their variationals, the Lagrange multiplicators are counted, and then the variational iteration is defined, finally, the approximate solution is obtained. From approximate expansions of the solution, the zonal sea surface temperature anomaly in the equatorial eastern Pacific and the thermocline depth anomaly of the sea-air oscillation for El Nino atmospheric physics model can be analyzed. El Nino is a very complicated natural phenomenon. Hence basic models need to be reduced for the sea-air oscillator and are solved. The variational iteration is a simple and valid approximate method.

An incubation experiment was carried out on plateau and slope fields to investigate the effect of plant age and rock phosphate （RP） on the organic resource （OR） quality and available N and P release of the legume residues, including standing biomass and surface litter. The legumes, Mueuna pruriens （L.） and Lablab purpureus （L.）, were treated with or without Togo rock phosphate （RP） and were sampled at 12, 18, 24 and 3. weeks after planting. Results showed that the application of RP significantly affected the P content of the legume residues on the plateau field for the first 18 weeks, but not the other OR quality parameters, nor their N mineralization, or P release parameters. Although application of RP led to higher P contents in both legumes on the plateau field, the P contents were still far below those observed on the slope field. For both species, the biomass age appeared to have a major impact on their N, P, and polyphenol contents, but not on the liguin content. At 24 weeks, both legume N and P contents dropped to about half their values at 12 weeks of age. Residue age also significantly affected N mineralization both with and without RP addition and the net Olsen-P with RP addition. The younger residues generally led to higher N mineralization and net Olsen-P content than the older residues. The best immediate responses to herbaceous legume addition were expected from younger materials, but often at the cost of the total biomass produced and the possibility to produce seeds. The production of seeds, however, could be potentially implemented on a small area of legumes, thus invariably allowing for maturity and seed production.
