A Study of Sr, Nd and O isotopes of the K-rich Melanocratic Dykes in the Late Mesozoic Gold Field in the Jiaodong Peninsula

He got his Master's and Doctoral degrees at the same University in 1991 and 1998 respectively. He is now an associate professor at the University and has long been engaged in teaching and research work in petrography and mineral deposits.

Geologic, petrographic and petrochemical studies of the late Mesozoic K-rich melanocratic dykes, including lamprophyres, andesite porphyrites and dacite-porphyry in the gold field system in the Jiaodong Peninsula, china, have shown that these dykes are characterized by rich potassium and alkali but poor titanium. They belong to an ultra-high potassic, shoshonitic and high potassic calc-alkaline rock series. The parental magma has relatively high initial strontium ratios ((87Sr/86Sr),=0.70895-0.7114.) and low (14.1}d/14.Nd)1 ratios (varying from 0.5113. to 0.5123.); and its δ18Osmow, whole rock values vary from +5.8%c to +10.6%c with a mean of +7.1%c. These features suggest that the source region of the magma is an enriched mantle wedge transformed from a continental lithosphere mantle which has experienced metasomatism by mantle-derived fluids with H2O-dominated fluids that were provided during the underthrusting of an ocean crust. The initial magma was generated by low-degree partial melting of the enriched mantle in its mature stage in the back-arc spreading environment. The evolution of magmas is associated with two trends, i.e., fractional crystallization and mixing with or intensive contamination by palaeo-crust materials or metamorphic rocks. The former process is evident in the gold field system of quartz-vein type, whereas the latter is dominated in the gold field system of the altered-rock type. This conclusion is very important for more detailed study of petrogenesis and mineralization through the crust-mantle interaction (exchange) in the Mesozoic in this region.

Here we report new shrimp dating results of the crystal tuff in Ejiaao Formation of middle Banxi Group in northern Guizhou. The results indicate that the volcanic deposition occurred at ~780 Ma. We also suggests that the igneous activities across Yangtze Craton with diabase dyke swarms and basal volcanic rocks during middle Banxi time are indicative of the episodic, extensive and vigorous great bimodal igneous events during middle Neoproterozoic (825-720 Ma) in South china. The characteristics of the igneous series are contrary to the model claiming they are of island-arc origin, but suggest that they are the records of rifting process and may be related to the episodic plume activities leading to the break-up of Rodinia.

＜正＞ Plastic deformation of garnet in coesite-bearing eclogite, quartz eclogite and garnet amphibolite of the ultra-high pressure metamorphic（UHPM） complex in Yingshan County, Dabie Mountains, has been studied by transmission electron microscopy （TEM）. Garnets have undergone ductile deformation under eclogite and amphibolite facies conditions. Garnet microstructures vary greatly with the dislocation density of the garnet being lower in coesite-bearing eclogite is than that in garnel *** generated by strong tectonic movement were an important component of the total pressure causing the formation of eclogite in the Dabie UHPM zone. The three-dimensional tectonic principal stresses and additional tectonic stress-induced hydrostatic pressure [Ps=-（σ1+σ2+σ3./3. are reconstructed according to the differential stress and strain ratio （a） of garnet in minor coesite-bearing eclogite of Yingshan county. Then the gravity-induced hydrostatic pressure （PG） is calculated through P minus PS, where P is estimated to be 2.8 GPa based on the quartz-coesite geobarmeter. Therefore, the thickness of the rock column overlying the coesite-bearing eclogite in Yingshan county is determined to be ≥2.09-3..11 km. this estimation is significantly different from the previous estimation of ≥100km obtained solely by considering the weight/specific weight ratio （W/SW）.It gives also a proper explanation to the puzzle that no tracer of addition of mantle-derived material has been found in the Dabie UHPM zone during the process of UHPM, although a number of researches claim that this process was taking place at depth of the mantle （≥100 km） . It is concluded that attention should be paid to the additional tectonic stress-induced hydrostatic pressure in the study of UHPM zones.

The shrimp U-Pb ages of detrital zircon from the oldest Mesozoic strata, the Fanghushan Fomation, in the Hefei Basin range from 200 Ma to ca. 2500 Ma, which indicates that the Dabie Orogen as the early Jurassic sedimentary provenance was complex. The composition of the Dabie Orogen includes: the Triassic high pressure-ultrahigh pressure metamorphic rocks, of which the detrital zircon ages are from 23. Ma to 200 Ma; the rocks possibly related to the Qinling and Erlangping Groups representing the southern margin of the Sino-Korean craton in the Qinling and Dabie area, of which the detrital zircon has an age of 4.1-3.8 Ma; the Neoproterozoic rocks originated from the Yangtze croton, of which the detrital zircon ages are 799-721 Ma old; and the rocks with the detrital zircon ages of ca. 2000 Ma and ca. 2500 Ma, which could be the old basement of the Yangtze craton.

Discovery of Eoarchean Meta-Dioritic Rocks in Anshan Area, china and Its geological Significance

In the Anshan area of Liaoning Province, an occurrence area of the oldest rocks in the world,the meta-dioritic rock of Eoarchaean has recently been found as enclaves in the 3. 8 Ga Dongshan banded trondhjemitic rock. It has relatively high contents of REE (w(∑REE) = 14.. 3.10-6) and unmarked LREE enrichment over HREE (wn (La)/wa (Yb) = 6. 99). Eight analysed zircon grains yield a well-defined discordia with an upper intercept of 3. 65 Ga. Some of the data points give an important in formation of more ancient zircon existence in the rock. The rock shows unusually low ε(Nd, 3. 8 Ga) values of - 1. 15 to -1. 24.and large tDM age of 4. 15-4.16 Ga. The {4. significance of the discovery is briefly discussed in this paper.

Tectonic setting of the Helong Block:Implications for the northern boundary of the eastern North china Craton

LA-ICP-MS zircon U-Pb dating indicates that the Bailiping granitic pluton was em-placed during Late Paleozoic to Early Cretaceous (285―116 Ma) by four distinct magmatic epi-sodes, arguing against the previous thought that the Bailiping granites were emplaced during Archean, Proterozoic or Early Paleozoic. It is suggested that the so-called Archean Jincheng-dong granite-greenstone belt, mainly composed of Bailiping granites, should be broken down. Sr-Nd isotopic compositions of the Bailiping granites are similar to those of the Phanerozoic granites in the Xing’an-Mongolian orogenic belt, suggesting that their parental magmas were mainly derived from a juvenile crust with some contamination of ancient crustal materials during magma rising and/or emplacement. Therefore, the basement of the Helong Block is similar to that in the northern Xing’an-Mongolian Orogenic Belt, but different from that of the North china Craton. It is proposed that the Archean Jinchengdong complex in this area is probably an exotic slice from the North china Craton, which indicates that the Fu’erhe-Gudonghe Fault, located in northern part of the Helong area, is not the boundary between the North china Craton and the Xing’an-Mongolian Orogenic Belt. The possible boundary should be located further southward more than 50 km and near the Baitoushan volcano.

The Pb isotopes and trace element compositions of the silicate fraction of airborne dust from the chinese Loess Plateau were analyzed to infer provenance change during the past 8 *** results indicate that the composition of eolian dust changed at 2.6 Ma,coincident with initiation of the Northern Hemisphere ice *** change in trace element composition at 2.6 Ma indicates that a larger component of the eolian dust was derived from felsic rocks after this *** isotopic evidence demonstrates that the source material of Tertiary Red Clay differs to some extent from that of Quaternary eolian *** chemical weathering may result in compositional changes in eolian deposits,such a scenario is not supported by the present *** that glacial grinding and frost-weathering processes have been active in the peaks of high mountains during the Quaternary,eolian dust of this age contains a large proportion of material derived from areas of high topographic relief and relatively little material from low-lying cratonic *** alpine processes played an important role in controlling the distinct changes in Pb isotopes and trance element concentrations recorded at around 2.6 Ma.

Zircon shrimp U-Pb dating for gabbro at Chaotiehe in the Haicheng area, eastern Liaoning

Chaotiehe gabbroic intrusion in the eastern part of Liaoning Province was dated by the zircon shrimp U-Pb technique. The results gave an emplacement age of 126±4.Ma, indicating that the intrusion thus formed during the lithospheric thinning of the North china Craton (NCC) in the Early Cretaceous rather than in a rifting setting during the Paleoproterozoic as previously thought. The gabbroic intrusion contains abundant old zircons with Paleoproterozoic (2.10-2.4. Ga and ca. 1.87 Ga) and Neoproterozoic (74.-969 Ma) ages. The Paleoproterozoic zircons were probably derived from NCC itself, whereas the Neoproterozoic ones were likely from materials of the Yangtze Craton that had previously been subducted beneath NCC. These geochronological dates are of important implications for understanding the Mesozoic crustal evolution of NCC.
