Mathematical Model for the Drying Process of Granular Materials in a Fluidized Bed

The experiment of granular materials, barley, drying in a fluidized bed was carried out to investigate the influence of the factors, inlet air temperature, air moisture, bed height and original moisture content of the dried materials on drying process. Based on the experimental data, a corresponding mathematical model is presented. As a conclusion, a higher inlet air temperature and a reasonable bed height should be used so as to increase the dring rate and to improve the product quality.

The structural and magnetostrictive properties of (CexTb1-x)0.5Pr0.5Fe_2 were investigated. Ceconcentration must exceed x=0.6 in order to obtain the pure Laves phase. The magnetostriction and anisotropy constant increase with the Tb-content in this system. The anisotropy value of PrFe_2 is lower than that of isostructural DyFe_2. From the X-ray step-scanned data we found that λ_111 of PrFe_2 is 13.0x10^-6. A large increase of magnetostriction can be observed under a small prestress of 6 MP_a for Ce_0.5Pr_0.5Fe_2.

Summary: To investigate the effects of time interval and cumulative dosage of repetitive mild cellular hypoxia on shape of neurodegeneration and neuroprotection in mice, population spike amplitude (PSA) was measured during hypoxia and posthypoxic recovery in hippocampal slices from untreated control and mice pretreated in vivo with a single or repeatedly intraperitoneal injection of 3.nitropropionate (3.NP). Posthypoxic recovery of PSA was dose-dependent in single pretreated slices, with maximal recovery on pretreatment attained with 20 mg/kg 3.NP (82±3.%, P3.NP (dosage interval 3.days), PSA recovered to (3.±9) % with the difference being not significant vs control group and (72±45) % with the difference being significant (P3.±25) % and (16±14) %, respectively (without significant difference from control). Continued neuroprotection was also observed upon increase of dosage interval to 4 and 5 days. It was suggested that repetitive chemical hypoxia is a model for neurodegenerative disease and continued neuroprotection depending on time interval between repetitive hypoxic episodes rather than cumulative dosage. At appropriate time intervals increased neuronal hypoxic tolerance could be induced with number of hypoxic episodes.

The effect of hydrogen on the microstructures and superplasticity of a Ti3.l-Nb alloy was studied. The results showed that hydrogenation made the volume fraction of B2 phase increase and facilitated the dynamic recrystallization of the lath-like phase. The addition of hydrogen. reduced the flow stresses and made the maximum m value move to a lower temperature during the superplastic deformation. The superplastic deformation temperature of the alloy can be lowered by about 60 degreesC.

The role of interleukin-6 (IL-6) in the growth of an androgen-independent prostate cancer cell line (PC-3.) was defined and the effect of dexamethasone, which was previously shown to modulate IL-6/IL-6 receptor (IL-6R) on this procedure was investigated. By using a pretty sensitive and specific enzyme immunoassay (ELISA), it was found that PC-3. produced certain IL-6, but there was no difference in IL-6 secretion between the group with or without dexamethasone treatment. It was also found that PC-3. cells could not be stimulated to grow by exogenous IL-6 (P>0.05), while it could be inhibited to grow by anti-IL-6 monoclonal antibody and dexamethasone with a dose-dependent fashion. Our observation indicated that IL-6 acted as an autocrine growth factor for PC-3., and dexamethasone could inhibit cell proliferation by a mechanism independent of its effect on IL-6 mRNA expression.

Multi-modality medical image fusion has more and more important applications in medical image analysis and understanding. In this paper, we develop and apply a multi-resolution method based on wavelet pyramid to fuse medical images from different modalities such as PET-MRI and CT-MRI. In particular, we evaluate the different fusion results when applying different selection rules and obtain optimum combination of fusion parameters.

We briefly review the proposed relations between the frequencies of twin kilohertz quasi-periodic oscillations(kHz QPOs) and the spin frequencies in neutron star low-mass X-ray binaries(NSLMXBs).To test the validity of the proposed models,we estimate the spin frequencies under these theoretical relations and compare them with the measured *** seems that magnetohydrodynamic(MHD) oscillations are more promising to account for the kHz QPOs.
