Linear relationship between the interdecadal and interannual variabilities of North china rainfall in rainy season

Interdecadal and interannual timescales are dominant in the North china rainfall in rainy season (July and August). On the interdecadal timescale, the North china rainfall exhibited an abrupt decrease at the end of 1970s. In this study, we examined the effect of this abrupt rainfall decrease on the association between rainfall and circulation on the interannual timescale, and found that the interdecadal variation does not change the physical mechanism responsible for the interannual variation of North china rainfall. There is a linear relationship between the interdecadal and interannual variabilities of North china rainfall in rainy season.

Fused thiophenes refer to oligothienoacenes in which several thiophenes are coupled together via twoor multi-positions and their derivatives. The synthesized organic semiconductors based on fused thiophenes exhibit excellent field effect properties due to their efficient intermolecular S…S interactions and π…π stacking. The performances of organic field-effect transistors (OFETs) depend not only on the materials but also on the devices. Such factors which influence the device performances as device structures, fabrication technologies and interface engineering are extensively investigated based on the fused thiophenes. Searching for new organic semiconductors and improving the device fabrication technologies are two major issues in the development of OFETs.

A study of the atmospheric photochemical reaction of CF3.radical with CO and O2 was performed by using a homemade ultraviolet photoelectron spectrometer-photoionization mass spectrometer (PES- PIMS). The electronic structures and mechanism of ionization and dissociation of CF3.C(O)OOC(O)- OCF3.were investigated. It was indicated that the two bands on the photoelectron spectrum of CF3.C(O)OOC(O)OCF3.are the result of ionization of an electron from a lone pair of oxygen and a fluo- rine lone pair of CF3.group. The outermost electrons reside in the oxygen lone pair. The experimental and theoretical first vertical ionization energy is 13.21 and 13.178 eV, respectively, with the PES and OVGF method. They are in good agreement. The photo ionization and dissociation processes were discussed with the help of theoretical calculations and PES-PIMS experiment. After ionization, the parent ions prefer the dissociation of the C-O bond and giving the fragments CF3.CO+ and CF3.. It demonstrated that the ultraviolet photoelectron and photoionization mass spectrometer could be ap- plied widely in the study of atmospheric photochemical reaction.

To investigate the possible failure modes of the thermal barrier coating (TBC) used to protect the scramjet combustion chamber, the local heating via laser beam irradiation was utilized to simulate the service condition of high thermal flux and high temperature gradient. Firstly, the experimental method and process were described and the typical fracture morphology of the TBC under test were provided. Then, the theoretical and finite element modeling were carried out to study the temperature, deformation and stresses of the specimen when the top ceramic coat was subjected to local heating, and to demonstrate the mechanism on the failure of the TBC. It is revealed that the interface delamination shall appear and ultimately lead to the failure of the TBC under such thermal loading of local quick heating. According to the outcome of this study, the driving force of the interface delamination is influenced greatly by the key structural parameters and performance matching. Moreover, by utilizing the rules of the effects of these parameters on the fracture driving force, there is some possibility for the designer to optimize the performances of the TBC.

Cellular apoptosis susceptibility (CAS) gene plays important roles in mitosis, development and export of importin a from the nucleus, but its function in plant is unknown. In this study, a rice CAS ortholog (OsCAS), which encodes a predicted protein of 983.amino acids with 62% similarity to human CAS, was identified. DNA gel blot analysis revealed a single copy of OsCAS in the rice genome. A 973.bp fragment at the 3. end of OsCAS cDNA was cloned from rice cDNA library and transferred into rice in the antisense direction under the control of CaMV 3.S promoter via Agrobacterium-mediated transformation method, 105 transgenic lines were obtained. Expression of OsCAS was suppressed in the antisense transgenic lines as revealed by semi-quantitative RT-PCR. The antisense transgenic lines showed dwarf phenotypes. The results indicated that OsCAS was involved in culm development of rice.

Tropical atmosphere is divided into two layers, the layer near the ground is the planet boundary layer, where the motion is linear, if the radiation equilibrium temperature is given at the top of the boundary layer, the vertical motion there can be obtained. It is the non-viscous ideal atmos- pheric layer above the boundary one, where the motion is nonlinear. After getting the conservation laws of angular momentum, potential temperature and potential vortex, the inertial theory of the Hadley circulation driven by the vertical motion of the boundary layer is established, followed by sev- eral examples of its application.

This paper continues to study the central relaxing schemes for system of hyperbolic conservation laws, based on the local relaxation approximation. Two classes of relaxing systems with stiff source term are introduced to approximate system of conservation laws in curvilinear coordinates. Based on them, the semi-implicit relaxing schemes are con- structed as in [6, 12] without using any linear or nonlinear Riemann solvers. Numerical experiments for one-dimensional and two-dimensional problems are presented to demon- strate the performance and resolution of the current schemes.

The photodissociation of ethyl iodide at 279.71, 281.73. 3.4.02 and 3.4.67 nm has been studied on our new mini-photofragment translational spectrometer with a total flight path of only 5 cm. Some vibra-tional peaks are firstly resolved in the TOF spectra of I*(2P1/2) and I(2P3.2) channels. These vibrational peaks are assigned to the excitation states (ν2 = 0, 1, 2,…) of the umbrella mode (ν2, 540 cm-1) of the photofragment C2H5, and the distribution of the vibrational states is obtained. The dissociation energy has been determined to be D0(C-I)=2.3.4 ± 0.03.eV. The energy partitioning of the available energy (Eavl=ET+Eint=ET+EV,R) calculated from our experimental data E int /E avl= 22.1% at 281.73.nm, 22.4% at 3.4.02 nm for the I* channel, and E int /E avl= 25.2% at 279.71 nm, 25.9% at 3.4.67 nm for the I channel, seem to be more reliable.
