Synthesis, Microstructure and Optical Absorption of Coatings with Doping of Nano-TiO_2 for Protection Against UltravioletIrradiation

The synthesis of dispersions of MMA (methylmethacrylate) with different concentrations of oleic acid coated nano-TiO_2 particles was performed by hydrolysis of TiCI_4 in the mixture solutions of MMA, oleic acid and H_2O with various concentrations. When MMA: oleic acid: H_2O : TiCi_4 =1.00: 0.064 : 0.01: 0.03. (by mol fraction), the dispersion of MMA with oleic acid coated nano-TiO_2 particles was very stable. Optical absorption result showed that the absorption band was located in the ultraviolet range from 200 to 400 nm. This dispersion was added to a kind of automobile surface lustering agent (type II), and then this lustering agent with nano-TiO_2 was coated on the surface of automobile surface paint. When the doping amount of the dispersion in the lustering agent=10 vol. pct, the state of paint (color and glossiness) did not present any change after irradiation of an ultraviolet lamp with the power of 1000 watt for two days. The sample with surface paint and lustering agent doped by 10 percent dispersion after suffering from irradiation of the sunlight for half a year (from May to November) kept the original state. However, for the samples with automobile paint and lustering agent without doping of nano- TiO_2, the color and glossiness lost easily after irradiation of an ultraviolet lamp. These results prove that nano-TiO_2 is a kind of high-efficient additive of paint for protection against ultraviolet irradiation.

Alumina aerogels with high porosity of nanometer size were prepared from Al, n-butanol and ethyl acetoacetate by the sol-gel route and the N2 supercritical extraction drying technique. Optical experiment results showed that for alumina aerogels after annealing at 500℃ for 4 h one intense blue emission band appeared in the wavelength range of 400 to 800 nm, and the optical absorption edge moved from 8.0 eV of coarse grain Al203.to 3.eV and with increasing the annealing temperature, this luminescence band presented blue shifts. The reasons of these new optical properties are discussed in detail.

Hollow cobalt submicrometer spheres have been prepared by controlling the redox reactionof CoCl with NaBH within the interface between the water and oil incyclohexane/water/polyglycol emulsion system at 60℃. The LaMn1-xTexO3.δ (x=0.1, 0.2, 0.3. were synthesized using solid-state reaction method for the first time. X-ray photoemission spectrum (XPS) shows that in the samples the Te ions have a valence of Te4+, and Mn3. ions are partly converted into Mn2+ and Mn4+ due to the excess oxygen and Te doping. The magnetotransport associated with Mn2+, Mn3. and Mn4+ was investigated. The experimental results show that the samples are insulator at 0 T when the amount of Mn3. is much larger or less than the sum of Mn2+ and Mn4+; by contrast, the samples display metal to insulator transition with increasing temperature when the amount of Mn3. is close to the sum of Mn2+ and Mn4+. These anomalous magnetotransport behaviors were analyzed in the frame of the double-exchange (DE) mechanism.

For alloy Ti-24Al-11Nb,stress corrosion cracking(SCC) in methanol solution and hydrogen induced cracking(HIC) during dynamic charging at room temperature have been *** has shown that the normalised threshold stress intensities of SCC failure for various microstructures are KISCC/KC =0.53.0.69 and the threshold value for SCC arresting KISCC/ KIC=*** threshold values of HIC during dynamic charging are close to that of SCC,but da/dt or fracture time of HIC is one to three orders of magnitude smaller or longer than that of SCC,*** surface for HIC is also different from that for *** the Ti-24Al-Nb alloy-methanol systein,a kind of inierphase SCC has been found For the microstructures resulting from furnace cooling,SCC initiated and propagated preferentially along theα2/βinterphase boundaries,displaying the microstructure on the fracture surface of ***,there is no interphase SCC for the microstructure resulting from air cooling.

The present paper shows an experimental evidence of influence of hydrogen on the magnetic properties of polymerized fullerene. Under the hydrogen atmosphere 254 nm ultraviolet irradiation caused the polymerization between C60 cages, which was confirmed by Raman spectroscopy of Ag(2) mode and 13. NMR spectroscopy. Meanwhile 1H-13. CP NMR result showed the hydrogen was also bonded to the polymerized C60. This polymer bonded with hydrogen performed a weak but measurable ferromagnetic feature with saturation magnetization of 0.07 emu/g at room temperature. The magnetic mechanism is discussed based on the spin-transfer mechanism of ferromagnetism suggested by Kvyatkovskii et al.[Phys. Rev. B 72, 214426 (2005)].

High-pressure synthesis and properties of CeO_2-ZrO_2 solid solution

Using nanoparticles of CeO2 and ZrO2 prepared by the chemical precipitation method as starting materials, the single-phase cubic Ce0.5Zr0.5O2 solid solution (c-Ce0.5Z0.5O2) has been synthesized under 3.1 GPa at 1073.K for the first time. The structure of the c-Ce0.5Zr0.5O2 has not been changed before and after annealing at 773.K for 1 h. Only an unknown EPR signal (g =1.990) has been observed in the c-Ce0.5Zr0.5O2 and not varied after annealing at 773.K for 1 h, which exhibited that there exists no Ce3. in the c-Ce0.5Zr0.5O2 and the Ce4+ has not been reduced into Ce3. after annealing. The transport mechanism is ionic for the c-Ce0.5Zr0.5O2. The bulk conductivity (a =1.2×10-5 S/cm at 823.K, σ=2.1 ×10-3.S/cm at 1123.K) is the same as that of CeO2, but smaller than that of Y2O3.stabilized ZrO2. A marked curvature at T = 823.K has been observed in the Arrhenius plot of the bulk conductivity. The activation energy below 823.K is lower than that above 823.K, and the reason has been discussed.
