The role of aerial algae in the formation of the landscape of the Yunnan Stone Forest,Yunnan Province, China

Aerial algae on the surface of carbonate rocks at the Stone Forest, Shilin County, Yunnan Province, China, and their bioerosion were investigated in the field and studied in the laboratory in detail. Through the observation, identification and statistics of more than one hun- dred algal samples and rock samples with the optical microscopes (stereomicroscope, biological microscope) and the scanning electronic microscope (SEM), the relationships between erosional forms on the surface of the Stone Forest and algae and/or algal communities and the genetic mechanism for the formation of erosional forms were analyzed. It is suggested that aerial algae play an active role in bioerosive processes that may affect the formation of karst erosional forms. These effects include both direct and indirect ones. The direct effect is the initiative control (algal shape-controlling role) of algae on the formation of karst forms of various scales, mostly mi- cro-scale (3.) and minor-scale (10-3.10-1m) erosional forms. The algal shape-controlling roles can be divided into the algal individual shape-controlling role and the algal community shape-controlling role. The former mostly controls the formation of micro-scale erosional forms, while the latter mostly controls the formation of micro-scale and smaller minor-scale erosional forms. The indirect effect refers to the promoting role of algae in the formation of karst forms, which may affect the formation of karst forms of all types and scales. The bioerosion of algae accelerates the weathering process of the whole Stone Forest karst landforms.

Restudy on morphology of Oryctocephalus indicus (Reed, 1910), based on specimens from Guizhou, China and Nevada USA, suggests that the subspecies regarded previously as Oryctocephalus indicus indicus (Reed, 1910), O. indicus latus Zhao et Yuan 2.02. and O. indicus kobayashi Saito, 193., are synonymous, and Oryctocephalus americanus Sundberg et McCollum, 2.03.is a similar form of O. indicus. Oryctocephalus indicus is rediagnosed as having a glabella that is subconical in outline and tapering forward slightly; a thorax that comprises 12.segments, and a small pygidium that bears 2.3.axial rings with a terminal piece and a postaxial ridge. Oryctocephalus indicus is widely distributed in eastern Guizhou and ranges through a great interval of Kaili Formation. Its first appearance is almost identical with these events of trilobite extinction-recovery occurring at the end of the Early Cambrian, the alternation of acritach assemblages, the change of trace elements (REE) and stable isotopes (carbon) at the Wuliu-Zengjiaya section. As one of the key forms for defining the traditional Lower-Middle Cambrian boundary (the base of Cambrian Series 3.and Stage 5 in the new Cambrian chronstratigraphic standard), O. indicus has received detailed study and has more advantages than other species such as Ovatoryctocara granulata Tchernysheva, 1962.or Arthricocephalus chauveaui Bergeron, 1899.

According to the study on the aquatic environment of the typical lakes in the middle and lower reaches of Yangtze River, lake eutrophication is a process in which the lake ecosystem degenerates, resulting in the deterioration of the water quality due to the enrichment of the nutrients. Moreover, the succession of lake ecosystem and change of water quality both couple well with the evolvement of tro- phic state. Then the conceptual model is mentioned and ten lake states are classified. Based on these, the authors analyzed the eutrophication processes of the typical lakes in the middle and lower reaches of Yangtze River. The large lakes with taking in - send- ing out water typical of Poyang Lake evolve from State 1 before the 1980s into State 2.after the 1980s, the large and medium lakes typical of Taihu Lake evolve from State 1-2.in the 1960s into State 8 in the 1980s then into State 9 in the 1990s, the medium and small shallow lakes typical of Honghu Lake evolve from State 1 in the 1960s into State 2.after the 1980s and the small city (suburban) lakes typical of Donghu Lake evolve from State 2.in the 1960s into State 9 after the 1970s. Further, the 1980s is the key con- version period of the lakes of various types typical of Poyang Lake, Honghu Lake and Taihu Lake con- verting into mesotrophic state, the 1990s is that of Taihu Lake into eutrophic state and the 1970s is thatof the small city (suburban) lakes typical of Donghu Lake into eutrophic state. The series of nutrient evolvement of different typical lakes are similar, but the processes are not synchronous, which is related to the various human and natural driving mechanisms in lake basins.

In single rat pancreatic βcells, using fura-2.microfluorometry to measure [Ca2.] response upon different stimuli, the ways of calcium regulation have been studied. When the extracellular calcium concentration was 2.5 mmol/L, either 60 mmol/L KCI, 2. mmol/L D-glucose or 0.1 mmol/L tolbutamide induced increase in [Ca2.]. Such increase in [Ca2.] was absent when the same stimuli were applied under zero extracellular calcium. These results indicate that the increase of [Ca2.] is induced by the activation of voltage-dependent calcium channels in p celis. The manifold forms of [Ca2.] change induced by glucose imply that the effects of glucose are complex. 5 mmol/L caffeine or 5 mmol/L MCh increase the [Ca2.], which is independent of the external calcium, suggesting that [Ca2.] can be regulated by Ca2. release from not only the IP3.sensitive but also the ryanodine sensitive calcium stores in p celis. Chemical Extraction Preparation of Delithiated Cathode Materials of Li-ion Battery

A method of conventional chemical reaction to prepare delithiated cathode materials of Li-ion battery was introduced. The cathode material of Li-ion battery was mixed with oxidizing agent Na2.2.8 in water solution, and the solution was stirred continuously to make the chemical reaction proceed sufficiently, then the reaction product was filtered and finally the insoluble delithiated cathode material was obtained. A series of tests were conducted to verify the composition, crystal structure and electrochemical property of the delithiated cathode materials were all desirable. This method overcomes the shortcomings of battery charging preparation and chemical extraction preparation employing other oxidizing agents.

Basin filling algorithm for the circular packing problem with equilibrium behavioral constraints

With the background of the satellite module layout design, the circular packing problem with equilibrium behavioral constraints is a layout optimization problem and NP-hard problem in math. For lack of a powerful optimization method, this problem is hard to solve. The energy landscape paving (ELP) method is a class of stochastic global optimization algorithms based on the Monte Carlo sampling. Based on the quasiphysical strategy and the penalty function method, the problem is converted into an unconstrained optimization problem. Here by combining the improved ELP method, the gradient method based on local search and the heuristic configuration update mechanism, a new global search algorithm, basin filling algorithm, is put forward. The numerical results show that the proposed algorithm is effective to solving the circular packing problem with equilibrium behavioral constraints, and is easy to be popularized to other layout optimization problems.

The influence of hydrogen bonds on the physical and chemical properties of hydrogen bonding fluid system of AaDd type is investigated from two viewpoints by the principle of statistical mechanics. In detail, we proposed two new ways that can be used to obtain the equilibrium size distribution of the hydrogen bonding clusters, and derived the analytical expression of a relationship between the hydrogen bonding free energy and hydrogen bonding degree. For the nonlinear hydrogen bonding systems, it is shown that the sol-gel phase transition can take place under proper conditions, which is further proven to be a kind of geometrical phase transition rather than a thermodynamic one. Moreover, several problems associated with the geometrical phase transition and liquid-solid phase transition in nonlinear hydrogen bonding systems are discussed.

The reaction of 3.6-di-(3.methyl-pyridin-2-yI)-s-tetrazine (DMPTZ, II) with CeIII salt [Ce(NO3.3.· 6H2O] generates a new ligand, N-(3.methyl-pyridin-2-yl)-formimidoyl-(3.methyl-pyridin-2-yl) hydrazone (L), and forms a new complex: a mononuclear complex [Ce(L)(NO3.2 (H2O)3. · NO3.(III). Crystal data for III: space group P-1, with a = 0.713.(4) nm, b = 1.113.(2) nm, c = 1.4572(3. nm, α= 102.13.2)°, β= 99.81(3.°, γ= 91.10(3.°, Z = 2, V = 1113.6(7) nm3. μ = 2.123.mm?1 and F(000) = 63.. L acts as a tri-dentate chelating ligand in III. There are 10 coordination sites around Ce3. of III, which are respectively occupied by seven oxygen atoms (four from two nitrate anions and three from three H2O molecules) and three nitrogen atoms (all from L). The cerium atom and three chelating nitrogen atoms are coplanar. The mechanism of the metal assisted decomposition is discussed briefly.

In this article,both the basic principles and the experimental methods of identity recognition technology based on heart sounds are ***,the characteristics of heart sounds and the feasibility of heart sounds as a biometric were analyzed.A synthetic model of heart sounds was then developed based on a family of wavelets;Finally,the characteristic parameters of heart sounds were extracted by using the heart sounds linear band frequency cepstra(HS-LBFC)with a specified configuration,and the similarity distance was adopted for heart sound *** highlight the difference in two heart sound signals between the time and frequency domains,a construction method of the heart sound wavelet,a calculation method of the parameters of a synthetic model,selection of the characteristic parameters of heart sounds and the corresponding data processing technology were *** experimental results showed that the proposed method exhibited excellent performance and practicability.
