Study on the two and three-parameter working stability regions of 3.-TZP suspension

We determined the variation tendency of viscosity (η) at various solids load- ing (α) for 3.-TZP suspension as a function of dispersant concentration (Cw) using vis- cosity measurement, measured the diameter of particles as a function of Cw in very dilute suspension using light scattering method, and obtained the surface features of the sedi- ment of suspension with different Cw using SEM. We also discussed the influence of the microstructure of adsorbed polymer layers on particles and their interactions in the dis- persing medium on the stability of suspension. Then two different stable states and two different unstable states for 3.-TZP suspension were given. Accordingly, the (Cw, η), (Cw, α), and (α, η) two-parameter, and (Cw, α, η) three-parameter stability maps were con- structed. Based on the DLVO theory calculations, the dispersant concentration, particle distance (r), and interparticle potential energy (VT) maps with various solids loading for 3.-TZP aqueous suspension were also constructed. In (Cw, r) two-parameter coordinate system, the stable motion region map for particles was established. The Cw, α, and VT,max (the highest potential energy) surface of the potential barrier map was obtained through calculation and simulation on the basis of the surfaces of Cw, r, VT maps introduced above. The (Cw, α) two-parameter stability map was then obtained from the Cw, α, VT,max map. The results showed that this theoretical map can qualitatively prove the experimentally obtained results—the existence of different dispersed states of particles in suspension system and the variation tendency of suspension stability with changing each parame- ter—were reasonable.

Accurate studies on the full vibrational energy spectra and molecular dissociation energies for some electronic states of N_(2)molecule

It is usually very difficult to directly obtain molecular dissociation energy De and all accurate high-lying vibrational energies for most diatomic electronic states using modern experimental techniques or quantum theories, and it is also very difficult to give accurate analytical expression for diatomic molecular dissociation energy. This study proposes a new analytical formula for obtaining accurate molecular dissociation energy based on the LeRoy and Bernstein’s energy expression in dissociation limit. A set of full vibrational energy spectra for some electronic states of N2 molecule are studied using the algebraic method (AM) suggested recently, and the corresponding accurate molecular dissociation energies are evaluated using the proposed new formula and high-lying AM vibrational energies. The results show that the AM spectra and the new theoretical dissociation energies agree excellently with experimental data, and thereby providing a new physical approach to generating accurate dissociation energies for electronic states of diatomic molecules.

Lattice dynamical simulation of methane hydrate

INS （Inelastic Neutron Scattering） spectrum of methane hydrate was measured on MARI （a direct-geometry chopper spectrometer） at Ruther-ford Appleton Laboratory, UK. Compared with ice Ih, it is found that the whole spectrum of methane hydrate moves toward high-energy by about 1.5 meV. Using lattice dynamical （LD） technique, computer simulations of methane hydrate were carried out. In the simulations, four potential models （BE TIP3., TIP4P, MCY） were employed to calculate the phonon density of states （PDOS）. Comparing the calculated PDOS spectrum with the experimental spectrum, it is found that BF, TIP4P, and TIP3. potential lattices give out well-separated translational and librational bands while MCY potential lattice is unstable to do so and this model is not suitable to describe hydrate system.

Analysis on cohesive crack opening displacement considering the strain softening effect

In order to investigate the crack propagation in quasi-brittle materials like rock, ceramic and concrete, Hillerborg and his co-researchers abstracted the fracture process zone in front of a stress free crack in terms of a “fictitious crack zone”. On the fictitious crack zone, cohesive stresses distribute following a given softening relationship of stress vs. crack opening. Based on the polynomial or power series expression of cohesive crack opening displacement, the relationship of the cohesive stress vs. the crack opening displacement is established using elastic theory and integral equation, and some unknown physics variables are obtained using variation approach. The calculation results gained in this paper are close to the experimentally test ones.

The non-local vacuum condensates of quantum chromodynamics (QCD) describe the distributions of quarks and gluons in the non-perturbative QCD vacuum state. Physically, this means that vacuum quarks and gluons have a nonzero mean-squared momentum in the vacuum, called virtuality. The quark virtuality is given by the ratio of the local quark-gluon mixed vacuum condensate to the quark local vacuum condensate. The gluon virtuality is expressed by gluon vacuum condensates and four-quark vacuum condensates. We study the two virtualities by solving Dyson-Schwinger Equations and calculating quark and gluon vacuum condensates. Our theoretical results for quark virtuality are in good agreement with many other theoretical model predictions such as QCD sum rules and lattice QCD calculations. Our calculation on gluon virtuality is initial and the results are quite interesting.

The Statistical Distribution of the Horizontal Velocities of Water Particles at Wave Surface Maxima

On the basis of the linear model of random sea waves presented by Longuet-Higgins, the statistical distribution of the horizontal velocities of water particles at wave surface maxima is derived theoretically. The derived distribution is similar to that of wave surface maxima, and a new spectral width epsilon(u), which is defined as (1 - m(3.(2)/m(2)m(4))(1/2), is introduced in the distribution. When epsilon(u) tends to zero, the distribution is reduced to Rayleigh distribution and it is reduced to the normal distribution when epsilon(u) tends to unity. For a narrow spectrum, it is proved that epsilon is equal to 1/2 epsilon, where epsilon is (1 - m(2)(2)/m(0)m(4))(1/2) and is the commonly used spectral width.

The extension of the first main theorem for π-blocks

Let π be a set of primes and G a π-separable group. Isaacs defines the Bπ characters, which can be viewed as the "π-modular" characters in G, such that the Bp′ characters form a set of canonical lifts for the p-modular characters. By using Isaacs' work, Slattery has developed some Brauer's ideals of p-blocks to the π-blocks of a finite π-separable group, generalizing Brauer's three main theorems to the π-blocks. In this paper, depending on Isaacs' and Slattery's work, we will extend the first main theorem for π-blocks.

Bubble size distribution in surface wave breaking entraining process

From the similarity theorem, an expression of bubble population is derived as a function of the air en-trainment rate, the turbulent kinetic energy (TKE) spectrum density and the surface tension. The bubble size spectrum that we obtain has a dependence of a?2.5+nd on the bubble radius, in which nd is positive and dependent on the form of TKE spectrum within the viscous dissipation range. To relate the bubble population with wave parameters, an expression about the air entrainment rate is deduced by intro-ducing two statistical relations to wave breaking. The bubble population vertical distribution is also derived, based on two assumptions from two typical observation results.

A model study on carbon cycle and phytoplankton dynamical processes in the Bohai Sea

The carbon cycle of lower trophic level in the Bohai Sea is studied with a three-dimensional biological and physical coupled model. The influences of the processes (including horizontal advection, river nutrient load, active transport etc. ) on the phytoplankton biomass and its evolution are estimated. The Bohai Sea is a weak sink of the CO2 in the atmosphere. During the cycle, 13.7% of the gross production of the phytoplankton enter the higher trophic level and 76.8 % of it are consumed by the respiration itself. The nutrient reproduction comes mainly from the internal biogeochemical loop and the rem-ineralization is an important mechanism of the nutrient transfer from organic form to inorganic. Horizontal advection decreases the total biomass and the eutrophication in some sea areas. Change in the nutrient load of a river can only adjust the local system near its estuary. Controlling the input of the nutrient, which limits the alga growth, can be very useful in lessening the phytoplankton biomass.
