Discovery of Paleogene marine stratum along the southern side of Yarlung-Zangbo suture zone and its implications in tectonics

The Jiachala Formatiom is a new lithostratigraphic unit set up in this paper. This is the first report on the Paleogene marine sequences and microfaunas in Gyangze to the southern side of the Yarlung-Zangbo suture zone. On the basis of fossil abundance, species diversity, dominant species and first and last occurrences of key species, three dinoflagellate assemblages and three polynological assemblages were recognized in the Jiachala Formatiom. They are in ascending order as follows: Apectodinium quinquelatum-Apectodinium hyperacanthum, Cannin- gia chinensis-Palaeoperidinium pyrophorum and Cymatiosphaera reticulosa-Samlandia chla- mydophora dinoflagellate assemblages, and Arliaceoipollenites baculatus-Anacolosidites sub- trudens, Aglaoreidia cyclops-Pinuspollenites microinsigis, and Elaeangnacites asper-Ilexpol- lenites iliacus polynological Assemblages. According to the assemblages, the age of the Jiachala Formation is referred to Paleocene-early Eocene. The preliminary study on the Jiachala Forma- tion shows that this group of Paleogene deposits accumulated in an underfilled peripheral fore- land basin which was in response to the load of the crust thickening resulted from the Asia-India collision. The stratigraphic evidences provided by the evolution of foreland basin indicate that the India-Asia initional collision should occure near the Cretaceous/Paleogene boundary. The de- velopment and evolution of the southern Tibet foreland basin was under the control of the stress field from the subduct-collision between India and Asia and the structure pattern of the basement. The withering of Tethys Sea might occur after early Eocene in the Gyangze basin and should be after Priabonian of late Eocene in southern Tibet.

Floating Population Increase and Its Influence on the Urban Population Situation:A Case Study in beijing

Floating population is a special population group in China resulting from the implementation of household registration system. This paper uses a set of floating population survey data, population censuses data and statistical data to analyze the increase and influence of floating population on the urban population situations in beijing. It is found that beijing has experienced a rapid increase of floating population since the 1990s and that the increase of this group has become the key factor of the current population expansion in the city. Its distribution in the urban regions intensified and extended the suburbanization process of the capital. In addition, the population structures of sex, age, education and employment in beijing have changed to some extent due to the influx of floating population.

A subsurface runoff parameterization with water storage and recharge based on the Boussinesq-Storage Equation for a Land Surface Model

Subsurface runoff in a land surface model is usually parameterized as a single-valued function of total storage in a basin aquifer reservoir. This kind of parameterization is often sin-gle-valued function of storage-discharge under a steady or “quasi-steady” state, which cannot rep-resent the influence of aquifer recharge on subsurface runoff generation. In this paper, a new sub-surface runoff parameterization with water storage and recharge based on the Boussinesq-storage equation is developed. This model is validated by a subsurface flow separation algorithm for an ex-ample river basin, which shows that the new model can simulate the subsurface flow reasonably.

Carbon isotope composition and its implications of Lower Cretaceous Aptian-Albian shallow water carbonates in the Cuoqin Basin, north Tibet

The d 13. values of Lower Cretaceous Aptian-Albian platform-type carbonates in the Cuoqin Basin, north Tibet vary between 2.48 and 5.46. The mean value is 3.93. The values are not only provided with positive excursion, but also 1.17 higher than those of con-temporaneous pelagic carbonates which possess pretty high d 13. values. The origin is ap-proached. During the oceanic anoxic events, a great number of organisms were rapidly buried, causing the increase of the d 13. value of oceanic total dissolved carbon (TDC) and generally promoting the values of marine carbonates. After that, owing to the organisms undergoing dif-ferent isotopic fractionation in the paleo-ocean with stratified structure, d 13. values of shallow sea carbonate were obviously higher than those of pelagic carbonates.

Research and Demonstration of Direct Air-Cooling System for 600-MW Fossil-Fired Power Plants

Given the distribution feature of resources such as coal and water, the requirements for the development of Chinese power industry, and the fact of monopoly by foreign companies, it is very necessary and significant to independently research and develop air-cooling technologies. Through experimental research, simulative calculation, process and equipment development, field tests and a demonstration project, the design and operation technologies for air-cooling system are grasped and relevant key equipment is developed. The results of the demonstration project show that the technical indicators for the air-cooling system have met or exceeded the design requirements. Part of the research results have been incorporated into the relevant national design standards. The technologies developed have been applied to more than 2.0}sets of thermal power units of or above 600 MW in China.

Interfacial behaviors of PMMA-PEO block copolymers at the air/water interface

Diblock copolymer of PMMA2.1-b-PEO114 and triblock copolymer of PMMA12.-b- PEO2.7-b-PMMA12. were synthesized and their interfacial properties at the air-water interface were investigated, where both blocks of polyethylene oxide (PEO) and poly(methyl methacrylate) (PMMA) are surface active but the former is soluble in water while the latter is not. Both the block copolymers could form monolayers with two obvious transition regions. The first transition point is around 10 mN/m, which could be assigned to the pancake-brush change of the PEO chains. The other is around 18 mN/m, which could be ascribed to the condensed packing of PMMA. The surface morphological changes during the compression of the Langmuir monolayers are inves-tigated by using the AFM and SEM methods for the films deposited at different surface pressure or molecular areas. At a lower surface pressure, a typical morphology of PEO-con- taining lipopolymers is observed. Upon compression, sphere-dominant morphologies were observed. While the diblock copolymer is easy to folding, the triblock copolymer is in favor of formation of circular domains through vesiculation.

Atmospheric circulation reconstruction based on glaciochemical records requires knowledge of chemical concentration controls, such as source, transport pathway and strength. To gain insight into these processes, the relationships between glaciochemical records from two northern Hemisphere sites (Mt. Logan in Yukon Territory and 2.D in southern Greenland) and instrumental sea level pressure (SLP) series are investigated. Calibrations between Mt. Logan sea-salt sodium (ssNa+) concentration and SLP series show that ssNa+ concentrations are closely correlated with the autumntime (SON) Aleutian Low and the summertime (JJA) north Pacific Subtropical High. Both the deepened Aleutian Low and enhanced north Pacific Sub- tropical High strengthen the transport of sea-salt aerosols from the north Pacific to the Mt. Logan region. Calibrations between 2.D ssNa+ concentrations and SLP series indicate that ssNa+ concentrations are closely related to the wintertime (Jan.) Icelandic Low. A deepening of the Icelandic Low strengthens winter storms and frequent cyclogenesis over the north Atlantic and pushes more sea-salt laden air masses to the Greenland ice sheet. Therefore, ice core ssNa+ records from the Mt. Logan region can be considered as a proxy for reconstructing the au- tumntime Aleutian Low and summertime north Pacific Subtropical High, and the ssNa+ records from Greenland ice core (2.D) may provide a proxy for reconstructing the wintertime Icelandic Low.

For the past ten years there has been much progress in computational fluid dy- namics (CFD), among which the formation and development of the lattice Boltz- mann method (LBM) are an important new direction. We give a review on the main aspect and the latest development of this method in this article, and at the same time we also discuss the related development of scientific software and its impact on the real-world applications in industry.
