In recent years,much attention has been given to the increase in the earth-Sun distance,with the modern rate reported as 5-15 m/cy on the basis of astronomical ***,traditional methods cannot measure the ancient leaving rates,so a myriad of research attempting to provide explanations were met with unmatched *** this paper we consider that the growth patterns on fossils could reflect the ancient earth-Sun *** mechanical analysis of both the earth-Sun and earth-Moon systems,these patterns confirmed an increase in the earth-Sun *** a large number of well-preserved specimens and new technology available,both the modern and ancient leaving rates could be measured with high precision,and it was found that the earth has been leaving the Sun over the past 0.53.billion *** earth's semi-major axis was 146 million kilometers at the beginning of the Phanerozoic Eon,equating to 97.6% of its current *** modern leaving rates are 5-14 m/cy,whereas the ancient rates were much *** results indicate a special expansion with an average expansion coefficient of 0.57H0 and deceleration in the form of Hubble *** the basis of experimental results,the earth's semi-major axis could be represented by a simple formula that matches fossil measurements.

Four rock assemblages in correspondence with two different tectonic settings have been recognized in the NEE-SWW extending HP-UHP metamorphic belt in southwestern Tianshan, northwest china. Eclogite assemblage EC1 is geochemically akin to alkaline within-plate oceanic island basalt (OIB). EC2 shows affinity to enriched mid-oceanic ridge basalt (EMORB). Rare earth element (REE) and other immobile trace element characteristics of blueschist assemblage BS1 resemble those of normal mid-oceanic ridge basalt (NMORB). These three assemblages are likely formed on a seamount setting, and the prevalent presence of carbonate minerals and om-phacite quartzite stripes/gobbets suggests ancient pelagic sediments including marls are probably developed upon the basaltic seamount. Whereas the geochemical characteristics of BS2 assemblage are of volcanic arc basalt-type. The seamount with the pelagic sediments on it is brought into the subduction zone, and volcanic arc basalts formed on the active continental margin and trench sediments are eroded and enwrapped in the subducting mass, they are altogether subjected to high to ultrahigh pressure metamorphism and subsequent exhumation towards surface. The HP-UHP metamorphic belt is thus interpreted as a subduct ion-accretionary complex formed by tectonic juxtaposition and imbrication of seamount, seafloor, trench and volcanic arc sequences during oceanic crust subduction.

We analyzed vertical distributions of ozone (O3. in the lower troposphere (3..3.°N), Zhejiang Province using electrochemical concen- tration cell (ECC) ozonesonde data obtained from February 21 to April 13. 2001. The results showed that the vertical O3.distributions are controlled by metrological conditions and the char- acteristics of O3.profiles are related to those of wet bulb potential temperature and wind field. O3.below 2 km showed that the strongest variability and enhanced O3.mixing ratios were associated with easterly winds that blow pollutants from the upwind source region of the Yangtze River Delta (YRD) region. Vertical O3.profiles below 5 km can be grouped into 5 categories: (1) peak mixing ratio type, (2) well-mixed type, (3. layered-structure type, (4) episodic pollution type and (5) alti- tudinal increasing type. Vertical distributions of O3.affected by regional transport of polluted air masses were investigated. Transport of polluted air from high latitudes of northern china, ac- companying subsiding motion of air and stagnant atmospheric conditions are important factors that lead to high mixing ratios of O3.at Lin’an. The stagnant atmospheric conditions associated with a continental high pressure system and pollution plume transported from the YRD and cen- tral-eastern china also lead to regional accumulation of O3.and high O3.mixing ratio at Lin’an. Long-range transport of O3.and pollutants from the Pearl River Delta in South china and in-situ O3.formation also resulted in elevated O3.mixing ratios at around 1 km altitudes and layered O3.distribution in the lower troposphere.

Mesozoic thrusts and extensional structures in the Daqingshan orogen, Inner Mongolia, and their temporal and spatial relationship

Three large-scale thrusts developed in the Daqingshan orogen, Inner Mongolia, with a northeast-east trending from Louhuashan to Suletu are described in this paper. These northwest-directed thrusts, together with the four tectonic belts (or tectonic sheets) separated by these faults, formed a typical thrusting system. The originally defined Hohhot metamorphic core complex may be a tectonic sheet, making the uppermost tectonic unit of the thrusting system and truncated by the Daqingshan detachment fault on top. The existing tectono-chronological studies showed that the thrusting of this region possibly happened at the same time as the extension along the top detachment fault. This presents that the contraction and extension in Daqingshan orogen were probably simultaneous. The structural pattern of the Daqingshan orogen can be correlated to the Himalayan orogen, and models for simultaneous thrusting and detachment in Himalaya may give a hint for explaining the development of the Daqingshan orogen.

Indian Ocean-MORB-type isotopic signature of Yushigou ophiolite in North Qilian Mountains and its implications

In order to explore the disputed issue concerning the tectonic affinity ofthe ancient ocean mantle of North Qilian Mountains (NQM), geochemical and Sr, Nd, Pb isotopiccompositions of pillow basalts of the Yushigou Ophiolite (YSGO) suite from NQM have been analyzedsystematically. The pillow basalts exhibit tholeiitic characteristics, with flatchondrite-normalized REE patterns ((La/Yb)_N = 0.98—1.27). They display no Nb, Ta, Zr, Hf negativeanomalies, and show MORB features in 2Nb-Zr/4-Y and Ti/100-Zr-YX3.tectonic discrimination *** results indicate that the Yushigou ophiolite is most likely to be formed in a mid-ocean ridgeor mature back-arc basin. Their isotopic data show a relatively broad and enriched ^(87)Sr/^(86)Sr(0.70509 — 0.70700), restricted ^(143.Nd/^(144)Nd (0.512955-0.512978). Pb isotopes are in the rangeof ^(206)Pb/^(204)Pb (18.054-20.562), ^(207)Pb/^(204)Pb (15.53.-15.743. and ^(208)Pb/^(204)Pb(3..068-3..53.). These isotopic data imply that the basalts originated from the depleted mantle(DMM), with the involvement of enriched mantle components (mainly EMII). Geochemical comparisonsbetween the basalts in YSGO and the MORB-type basalts of ophiolite suites occurring in the knownancient Tethyan tectonic domain indicate that the ancient oceanic mantle represented by YSGO suiteforming in early Paleozoic in the North Qilian Moutains is very similar to the Tethyan mantle inboth trace elements and isotopic compositions. The North Qilian Mountains should be a part of theTethyan tectonic domain in early Paleozoic. This further implies that the Tethyan tectonic domaincan be deduced to early Paleozoic in the study area, which will be helpful to discussing thetectonic affinity and evolution of the North Qilian Mountains.

Discovery of a pterodactylid pterosaur from the Yixian Formation of western Liaoning,china

A well-preserved pterosaur with nearly complete skull is described from the Lower Cretaceous Yixian Formation at Sihetun in western Liaoning. It is characterized by a low and long crestless skull, slender and pointed teeth, long metacarpal, nearly equal length of metatarsals I -III and short pedal digit V. It is referred to a new genus and species of the family Pterodactylidae: Haopterus gracilis gen. et sp. nov. This is the first pterosaur with a nearly complete skull from the Jehol Biota; it also represents the first non-controversial fossil record of Pterodactylidae in Asia. Haopterus is more derived than Pterodactylus from the Late Jurassic Solnhofen in Germany. This discovery extends the distribution of the family Pterodactylidae from Europe and Africa to Asia and its latest occurrence from the Late Jurassic to the Early Cretaceous. The discovery of Haopterus gracilis provides further evidence for the study of the originand radiation of the Jehol Biota; it also sheds new light on the evolution and

Gastric tissue samples were studied using mid-IR fiber-optic attenuated total reflectance (ATR) spectroscopy. FTIR spectra of 90 tissue samples from 48 patients, including 3. normal and 58 malignant tissue samples, were chosen as examples. Malignancy was usually characterized by the absence of CH and C=O bands, a weak amide II band near 1545 cm-1, a shift of the amide I band to lower wave number, a decrease in the ～1450 cm-1 peak to less than the～1400 cm-1 peak. Subtraction spectra indicate that the amide I and amide II bands of normal and malignant tissues have larger differences in peak positions and relative intensities. The statistical analysis results confirm this conclusion. The results indicate that FTIR fiber optic techniques provide important information about cancerous tissue of the stomach, which can be used to differentiate the malignant tissue from the normal tissue. Based on the above results we successfully realize the detection of the tumor tissues of digestive tract in vivo and in situ. And the results of detection cancer near operating room and in vivo and in situ in the operating room are consistent with the conclusions for the samples stored in liquid N2, which is the basis for the clinical application.

The Neoproterozoic and Lower Paleozoic along the profile of Yuanguping in western Hunan Province, china underwent anchimetamorphism. The illite crystallinity (IC) of the 3.0.3.°△2θfor the Neoproterozoic to 0.23.0.3.°△A2θ for the Lower Paleozoic (calibrated with the Kisch IC set, Kisch, 1991). This indicates that the metamorphic grade of the Neoproterozoic and Lower Paleozoic is the anchizone. The peak metamorphic temperature is estimated to be 290-210℃. This result does not agree with the greenschist or subgreenschist facies of the Banxi Group, nor with the lower-greenschist facies or sedimentary cover of the Sinian to Lower Paleozoic, as most previous researchers thought. The illite (K-mica) b0 values range from 0.9074 to 0.8963.(nm) for the Neoproterozoic and the Lower Paleozoic. Based on cumulative frequency curves of the illite (K-mica) b0, the peak metamorphic pressure of the Banxi Group was derived to be of a type that is slightly higher than that of the N. New Hampshire low-intermediate pressure type. Most illites occur as the 2M1 polytype and some in the Neoproterozoic as a mixture of the 2M1+1M types. The distributions of coherent scanning domains (CSDs) of illites along the profile, measured with the XRD method, display a lognormal model and spread out with decreasing Kubler Index of IC. It indicates that illites underwent an Ostwald ripening. The post-anchimetamorphic structural movement not only results in a series of faults but also induces the lattice strain in minerals along the faults and hence impacts the illite crystallinity and causes diagenetic samples to occur within the anchizone. Compared with the cases in eastern and central Hunan Province, the Neoproterozoic and Lower Paleozoic rocks in the west underwent a lower-temperature anchimetamorphism with a pressure lower than that in the east and higher than that in the center of Hunan Province.

Two possible mechanisms for vortex self-organization

The vortex self-organization is investigated in this paper by four groups of numerical experiments within the framework of quasi-geostrophic model, and based on the experimental results two types of possible mechanisms for vortex self-organization are suggested. The meso-scale to-pography may enable separated vortices to merge into a larger scale vortex; and the interaction of meso-γ and meso-β scale systems may make separated vortices to self organize a typhoon-like vor-tex circulation.

Global well-posedness for the 2D critical dissipative quasi-geostrophic equation

We study the initial value problem for the 2D critical dissipative quasi-geostrophic equation. We prove the global existence for small data in the scale invariant Besov spaces ? p,1 2/p , 1 ? p ? ∞. In particular, for p = ∞, our result does not impose any regularity on the initial data. Our proofs are based on an exponential decay estimate of the semigroup $e^{{ - t\kappa ( - \Delta )}^{\alpha}} $ and the use of space-time Besov spaces.
