To isolate the over-expressed genes in human renal cell carcinoma (RCC) and analyze its molecular basis of carcinogenesis, we used the mRNA from human RCC tissues as tester and that from the matched normal kidney tissues as driver to construct the suppression subtractive hybridization library. 3.9 of the subtracted clones were arrayed onto a nylon mem-brane and the over-expressed genes were then screened by hybridizing the filter with radioac-tively labeled cDNA from RCC and matched normal kidney tissues. 67 clones over-expressed in RCC by a factor of 6 or more were sequenced and its identities were analyzed in GenBank da-tabase. 4 clones were previously unknown fragments and 2 clones represent KIAA genes. The rest clones were the known genes and some of them were RCC-related, including vascular en-dothelial growth factor, vimentin and tissue factor. Most of the known genes were the RCC-related genes previously unknown, including zinc ribbon domain-containing 1 protein (ZNRD1), pituitary tumor transforming gene1 (PTTG1). Northern blot and semi-quantitative RT-PCR confirmed that the mRNA levels of the 3.novel fragments and 1 KIAA and 3.known genes were significantly higher in RCC than in the matched normal kidney tissues. Immunohis-tochemical and Western blot analysis for PTTG1 and ZNRD1 revealed increased protein level in RCC. The over-expressed genes in RCC are the potential molecular targets for diagnosis and therapy and it is very important to understand the molecular mechanism of RCC through the profile of over-expressed genes.

Using the 3.m radio telescope of KOSMA, we mapped 12CO (J = 3.2) lines for three molecular clouds, B3., S146 and TMC-2A. High-velocity molecular outflows are found in all these regions. The physical and dynamical pa-rameters of the outflows are derived, and their shapes and driving sources are analyzed. Contour maps of center veloci-ties show that the large scale systematic gradients exist in the three clouds. These observed motions are best explained by rotation after excluding the cause of outflows. Furthermore, in the core region of TMC-2A there is a velocity gradient in opposite direction from that of the large scale. It may be caused by magnetic braking. Finally, angular velocities of the clouds are calculated, and the effects of rotation against gravity and lowering the star-formation rate are also ana-lyzed.

The new numerical algorithms in SUPER/CESE and their applications in explosion mechanics are studied. The researched al-gorithms and models include an improved CE/SE (space-time Conservation Element and Solution Element) method,a local hybrid particle level set method,three chemical reaction models and a two-fluid model. Problems of shock wave reflection over wedges,explosive welding,cellular structure of gaseous detonations and two-phase detonations in the gas-droplet system are simulated by using the above-mentioned algorithms and models. The numerical results reveal that the adopted algorithms have many advantages such as high numerical accuracy,wide application field and good compatibility. The numerical algo-rithms presented in this paper may be applied to the numerical research of explosion mechanics.

The prognosis of patients with severe viral hepatitis is concerned by clinicians, patients and their relatives. Many factors may influence on the prognosis of patients with this disease. Many studies on the prognosis of severe viral hepatitis by multiple logistic regression analysis have shown generally consistent results.1-4 Previouly we established a scoring model of severe viral hepatitis （SMSVH） by logistic regression analysis.1 The aim of this study was to estimate prospectively the 6-month survival rate of patients with severe viral hepatitis using SMSVH.

The effects of soluble and fibrillar Ab1-40 on membrane permeability and intracellular free Ca2+ of nerve cells were investigated by the laser confocal microscopy. Results indicate that: i) Effects of soluble and fibrillar Ab1-40 on cell membrane permeability are both concentration-de- pendent. Soluble Ab1-40 increases membrane permeability only at concentration of 3.mmol/L, while the toxic effect of fibrillar Ab1-40 is much stronger, its evident effect begins from 1 mmol/L. When its concentration rose to 3.mmol/L, not only the membrane permeability increased, but also the nuclear membrane broke seriously. ii) Both soluble and fibrillar Ab1-40 at high concentrations increased the intracellular free Ca2+, and the increased amplitudes are concentration-dependent. However, the fibrillar one induces the increase of intracellular Ca2+ much quicker and synchronously. These results indicate that some correlation exists between the neurotoxicity of high concentration soluble and fibrillar Ab1-40 and the change of physico-chemical properties and intracellular Ca ion imbalance.

To study the regulation of angiotensin Ⅱ (Ang Ⅱ) on Gαq/11 protein of vascular smooth muscle cell (VSMC) and its underlying mechanism, the protein synthesis was detected by [3.]-leucine incorporation. Gαq/11 expression was measured by Western blot in cultured VSMC of rat aorta. The results showed that the level of Gαq/11 was down-regulated after stimulated by Ang Ⅱ for 1-6 h, while it was upregulated significantly by 12-24 h stimulation (P 3.]-leucine incorporation of VSMC was increased after 24 h Ang Ⅱ stimulation. The biphase regulation of Ang Ⅱ on Gαq/11 protein was blocked by the Ang Ⅱ type I receptor (AT1) specific antagnist losartan or PLC inhibitor U73.22, while PD98059 did not have this effect. These data indicated that Ang Ⅱ contributed to VSMC hypertrophy by regulating the level of Gαq/11, and this effect was mediated mainly through AT1 receptor-PLC signal transduction pathway.

Sequential samples of single precipitation event were collected by the use of specially de-signed semi-automatic sequential precipitation collector in the spring of 1988 in Guilin City. ThePH value and soluble chemical species such as SO, NO, NH, Ca￣(2+), Mg￣(2+), Na￣+, K`+, F￣- andCl￣- were analyzed. An apparent decrease in the concentration of all ions except H￣+ and NO wasobserved at the initial portion of the events. The relative acidity increased as the event *** concentration of H￣+ was the result of comprehensive actions of all ions. The average scavengingratio of events was calculated and it is found that SO was the major contributor for acid rain inGuilin and Ca￣(2+) was the important neutralizer.
