ADP-ribosylation factors(Arf),a family of small GTP-binding proteins,play important roles in intracellular trafficking in plant cells.A homolog of Arf was isolated by screening cDNA library from postharvest banana(Musa accuminata *** group)fruit and was designated as Ma-Arf1 for the reason of the first Arf homolog isolated from banana.

To test the feasibility of local spin theory of Davidson and Clark for ferrodoxin clusters, the models [Fe2S2(SR)4]2- (R=-H, -CH3) are chosen for evaluation. This purpose is realized by calculating the local spin expectation values , , and mA and discussing the connection between these expected values and the Heisenberg spin model (HSM) and the Noodleman broken-symmetry approach. In practical calculation, the spin-unrestricted Hartree-Fock (UHF) and spin-polarized density functional theory (DFT) are used and the calculational qualities of these two methods are also discussed. In addition, the theoretical magnetic coupling constants JAB of these models are calculated by various computational schemes for comparison with both theoretical and experimental results previously reported.

BACKGROUND: Melatonin is a kind of hormones derived from pineal gland. Recent researches demonstrate that melatonin is characterized by anti-oxidation, anti-senility and destroying free radicals. While, effect and pathogenesis of pineal gland on learning ability should be further studied. OBJECTIVE: To investigate the effects of pinealectomy on learning abiliy, distribution of cholinesterase and expression of neuronal nitric oxide synthase (nNOS) in cerebral cortex of rats and probe into the effect of melatonin on learning ability, central cholinergic system and nNOS expression. DESIGN: Randomized grouping design and animal study. SETTING: Department of Neurology, the 187 Hospital of Chinese PLA. MATERIALS: A total of 12 male SD rats, of normal learning ability testing with Y-tape maze, of clean grade, weighing 190-210 g, aged 6 weeks, were selected in this study. METHODS: The experiment was carried out in the Department of Neurology, Zhujiang Hospital from July 1997 to June 2000. All SD rats were divided into experimental group (n =6, pinealectomy) and control group (n =6, sham operation). Seven days later, rats in both two groups were continuously fed for 33 days. ① Learning ability test: The learning ability of rats was tested by trisection Y-type maze and figured as attempting times. ② Expression of acetylcholinesterase (AchE) was detected by enzyme histochemistry and nNOS was measured by SABC method. ③ Quantitative analysis of AchE fibers: AchE fibers density in unit area (surface density) was surveyed with Leica Diaplan microscope and Leica Quantimet 500+ image analytic apparatus and quantitative parameter was set up for AchE fibers covering density (μm2) per 374 693.656 μm2, moreover, the AchE fibers density was measured in Ⅱ-Ⅳ layers of motor and somatosensory cortex (showing three layers per field of vision at one time), in radiative, lacunaria and molecular layers of CA1, CA2 and CA3 areas, and in lamina multiforms of dentate gyrus. To protect the surface of NiTi from corrosion, an ion implantation method was proposed. In the present work, a surface oxidized sample was implanted with nitrogen at energy of 100 keV. The corrosion resistarwe property was examined by the anodic polarization method in a simulated body fluid （SBF） at a temperature of 37 ℃ and contrasted to non-implanted NiTi samples. The composition and structure of the implanted layers were investigated by XPS. The experimental results from the electrochemical measurements provide an evidence that the nitrogen ion-implantation increases the corrosion resistance of NiTi shape memory alloy.

Objective: This study aimed at investigating the effects and mechanism of total alkaloids from Rhizoma Coptidis (TA) on ethanol - induced gastric mucosal injury in rats. Methods: The experimental gastric damages were established by intragastric ethanol, and the protective effects of TA were evaluated by calculating lesion indices and observing pathological changes. The nitric oxide (NO), malondialdehyde (MDA), and reactive oxide ( ·OH) contents and superoxide dismutase (SOD) activity from rat gastric mucosa were measured to explore the interrelation between therapeutic effects of TA and these factors. The expressions of neuronal nitrogen monoxide synthase (nNOS), endothelial NOS (eNOS), and inducible NOS (iNOS) from ethanol - damaged gastric mucosa in rats were analysised using immunohistochemical method. Results: TA significantly inhibited the gastric injury induced by ethanol, in dose - dependent manner, and the effect of TAwas superior to that of Berberine (Ber). TA obviously antagonized ethanol - induced elevation of MDA and· OH as well as decreasing of NO level and SOD activity from gastric mucosa. TA significantly suppressed ethanol - induced decreasing nNOS and eNOS expression and elevation of iNOS expression in rat

To conserve the precious conotoxin gene resource of Conus caracteristicus Fischer native to hainan,a cDNA library of the venom duct of *** Fischer was constructed,which would provide the biomaterial for investigating and developing the original marine conopeptide *** RNA was extracted from the venom ducts of *** Fischer by Total RNA Isolation Kit,and the Primer Extention method was used to synthesized double-strand cDNA based on the SMART *** digestion with SfiⅠand size fractionation by CHROMASPIN-400 columns,cDNAs(>500bp) were ligated to dephosphorylated pDNR-LIB vector digested by SfiⅠ.Then,the recombinant plasmids were transformed into *** DH5αthrough *** original library was generated through pooling the desired transformation mixtures *** were picked randomly from the library for screening the size of the cDNA inserts through Bacteria Liquid *** last step was the library *** original constructed cDNA library contained 3.1×10 independent *** titer of the cDNA library was about 3.01×10 cfu/mL,with the percentage of recombinant clones about 90%.The average size of the inserts was about 1 *** constructed cDNA library meets the requirement of a standard cDNA *** could be a strong basis for subsequent work of finding and researching some kinds of new conotoxins from Conus caracteristicus Fischer.

Both rice pollen flow and gene flow model have been established based on the Gaussian Plume Model,the 3 locations×3 years field experimental data of transgene flow to common rice cultivars(Oryza sativa L.),male sterile(ms) lines and common wild rice(*** L.),and the 32 years historical meteorology data during the rice flowering period collected from 38 meteorological stations in southern china. A concept of gene flow coefficient(GFC) is proposed,that is the ratio of the transgene flow frequency(G%) obtained from field experiments against the aggregated pollen dispersal ratio(P) or frequency(P%) calculated based on the pollen flow model. The maximum distances of gene flow(MDGF) to traditional rice cultivars,ms lines,and common wild rice either at a threshold value of 1.0%or 0.1%are determined. The MDGF and its spatial distribution in southern china.show that the gene flow pattern is significantly affected by the monsoon climate,the topography,and the outcrossing ability of recipients. We believe that the information provided in this study will be useful for the risk assessment of transgenic rice in other rice growing regions.
