＜正＞Cortex is a laminated *** to the primary flow of information in the cortex,the layer 4 of cortex receives visual information from LGN,and relays the integrated information into layer 2/*** neurons in layer 4 and layer 2/3 have different shape in somas and dendrites and each cortical layer has specific input and output connections as well as specialized local circuitry,we hypothesize that neurons in different layers may have different properties in synaptic plasticity that are likely tuned to the particular functional requirements of each *** address this,both the excitatory synaptic plasticity and the inhibitory synaptic plasticity were *** whole cell recordings,LTP/LTD of excitatory transmission is induced by pairing protocol while LTD of inhibitory transmission （iLTD） was induced with TBS at the presence of APV and *** findings are:（1） In star pyramidal cells in layer 4 of the visual cortex,LTP and LTD of excitatory synapses become uninducible shortly after eye opening,whereas in pyramidal neurons in layer 2/3 these forms of synaptic plasticity still persist beyond puberty.（2） Visual deprivation by dark rearing does not have any effect on the induction of LTP/LTD in layer 4,while in the layer 2/3 of visual cortex of light-deprived mice,the LTP is enhanced and LTD is diminished.（3） TBS induces LTD of inhibitory transmission （iLTD） in the pyramids in layer 2/3 but does not do so in the star pyramids in layer 4.（4） LTP and LTD of excitatory synapses in layer 4 and layer 2/3 are NMDA- dependent,iLTD is *** results suggest that there was a sequential development of LTP/LTD of excitatory synapses in different ***-mediated iLTD was only induced in layer 2/3 of developing visual cortex,demonstrating a laminar-specific synaptic plasticity in both excitatory transmission and inhibitory transmission.

Twisted Ate pairing on hyperelliptic curves and applications

In this paper we show that the twisted Ate pairing on elliptic curves can be generalized to hyperelliptic curves, and give a series of variations of the hyperelliptic Ate and twisted Ate pairings. Using the hyperelliptic Ate pairing and twisted Ate pairing, we propose a new approach to speeding up the Weil pairing computation. For some hyperelliptic curves with high degree twist, computing Weil pairing by our approach may be faster than Tate pairing, Ate pairing, and all other known pairings.

Inactivation gating determines drug potency:a common mechanism for drug blockade of HERG channels

AIM: To determine the mechanisms of interactions between different drugs and HERG channels. METHODS:Various antiarrhythmic (dofetilide, quinidine, azimilide, RP58866) and non-antiarrhythmic (terfenadine, nicotine)agents were used on HERG channels expressed in Xenopus oocyte. Whole-cell voltage-clamp techniques wereused. RESULTS: All drugs produced concentration-dependent block of HERG current. The inhibition was mark-edly facilitated with voltage protocols favoring channel inactivation (eg, less negative holding potentials). Maneu-vers that weakened channel inactivation (eg, elevation of external K+), relieved HERG blockade by all drugs. Moreover,the inhibitory potency was reduced by at least 20-300 fold with varying compounds when rapid C-type inactivationwas removed by a mutation located between the transmembrane domains 5 and 6 (S631A). CONCLUSION: Theinactivation gating of HERG channels determines the blocking potency of drugs. This mechanism might be com-mon to drugs of various classes.

The non-structural proteins (nsp or replicase proteins) of coronaviruses are relativelyconserved and can be effective targets for *** studies have been conducted into the function of thesevere acute respiratory syndrome coronavirus (SARS-CoV) *** this study,bioinformatics methodswere employed to predict the secondary structure and construct 3-D models of the SARS-CoV GD *** and sequential comparison was performed to analyze the mutation trend of the polymerasensp5 gene during the epidemic process using a nucleotide-nucleotide basic local alignment search tool(BLASTN) and a protein-protein basic local alignment search tool (BLASTP).The results indicated that thensp5 gene was steady during the epidemic process and the protein was homologous with other coronavirusnsp5 *** protein encoded by the nsp5 gene was expressed in COS-7 cells and analyzed by sodiumdodecylsulfate-polyacrylamide gel electrophoresis (SDS-PAGE).This study provided the foundation forfurther exploration of the protein's biological function,and contributed to the search for anti-SARS-CoVdrugs.

Electrochemical Characterization of Surface-modified LiMn_2O_4 Cathode Materials for Li-ion Batteries

To improve the performance, the surface of 12Mn2O4 was coated with very fine MgO , Al2O3 and ZnO by solgel method, respectively. The structure and morphology of the coated materials were investigated by X-ray diffraction （ XRD ）, X-ray photoelectron spectroscopy （ XPS ） and scanning electron microscopy （SEM）. The charge and discharge performance of uncoated and surfnce modified 12Mn2O4 spinel at 25℃ and 55 ℃ were tested, using a voltage window of 3.0-4.35 V and a current deasity of 0. 1 C rate. There is a slight decrease in the initial discharge capacity relative to that of uncoated UMn2 O4, bat the cycle ability of 12 12Mn2O4 coated by metal-oxide has remarkably been improved. The EIS measuremeuts of uncoated and Al2O3 -coated 12Mn2O4 were carried out by a model 273 A potentiostatl galvanistat controUed by a computer using M270 software, and using a freqnency response analyzer （ Zsimpwin ） combined with a potentiostate （ PAR 273）. Coaseqnently, the reason for the improved cycle properties is that the surface modification reduces the dissolution of Mn , which results from the suppression of the electrolyte decomposition, and suppresses the formation of passivation film that acts as an electronic insulating layer. In conclusion, the use of surface modification is an effective way to improve the electrochemical performance of 12Mn2O4 cathode material for lithium batteries.

Reflection of plane electromagnetic waves from the surface of a perfect conductor moving in an arbitrary direction

The reflection of plane electromagnetic waves (TE wave and TM wave) from a perfect conductor which moves in an arbitrary direction is investigated. Based on Maxwell’s equations and the boundary conditions for moving boundary, the relation between the field vectors of reflected and incident waves, and the reflection coefficient are derived. The energy balance between incident and reflected waves, the force exerted by electromagnetic waves to the moving conductor are also discussed and some new conclusions are suggested for notice.
