Zonal propagation of kinetic energy (KE) and convection in the South china Sea (SCS) and Indian summer monsoon areas are examined in present study. Results suggest that the SCS and Indian summer monsoon prevailed regions (5 —15°N) are dominated by the southwesterly wind, however, the disturbances of KE at 850 hPa and convection are observed mainly coming from the western Pacific Ocean (140—150°E), after passing through the SCS, and westward propagated into the Bay of Bengal (90—100°E). In the Indian summer monsoon domain, where the disturbances of KE are found mainly coming from the Arabian Sea (AS) and eastward propagated into the Bay of Bengal. Therefore, the SCS and the Indian summer mon- soon are quite different in zonal propagation of KE and convection. The SCS summer monsoon is mainly affected by the KE and convection coming from the tropical western Pacific. The Indian summer monsoon, however, can be partly influenced by the AS and the SCS summer monsoon. The analysis also suggests that the interaction region between the SCS and the Indian summer monsoon is around 90—95°E, rather than 105°E as proposed by earlier studies.

A new genus, Sinodictyna （Archanda）, has been obtained from amber on the main coalbeds of the Gucheggzi Formation (E2g1), Fush?n Coalfield In Liaoning Province. It suggeststhat Sinodictyna belongs to a regional form in china and that it differs from European Balticamber Eolathys in the chelate teeth, pedipal, walking legs and its appendages. During field studies of the Devonian biostratigraphy in the summers of 1984 and 1985, some silicified woods of Callixylon were discovered for the first time by the author from the Hongguleleng Formation (Late Devonian) in the northwestern border area of the Junggar (Dzungaria) Basin, Xinjiang (Sinkiang), which have been briefly reported (Cai, 1987). Here illustrated and described are two species, from our collection, namely, Callixylon of. clevelandensis Chitaley and Callixylon newberryi (Dawson) Elkins et Wieland. The Jinping mountain region on the western margin of the Kang\|Dian axis is situated in the area bordered by the eastern margin of the Qinghai—Xizang Plateau on the west and the western margin of the Yangtze plate on the east, and consists of three\|layer structures: basement (Kang\|Dian axis), detachment zone (sliding surface of lateral extension and thrusting) and the overburden of the Jinping mountain nappe. The intense intracratonic deformation and metamorphism within the Kang\|Dian axis resulted in the activation, migration and enrichment of mineral elements and finally the formation of ore deposits in the Jinping mountain region. As for the Kang\|Dian axis as the crystalline and folded basement, the lower background values ((0 4～0 8)×10 -9 ) of the element Au don’t represent the initial contents, which have mostly been activated and moved away.. In the Lizhuang\|Lawo\|Bazhe zone as the detachment structural zone, the high er background values ((6～10)×10 -9 ) of the element Au don’t represent the initial contents as well, which have received more gold from the multistage ductile shear zones in the detachment zone. As a result of the lower degrees of deformation and metamorphism within the overburden of the Jinping mountain nappe, the lower temperatures and pressures are insufficient to activate and migrate the element Au; the Au contents available represent the initial Au contents ranging between 1 6 and 2×10 -9 , which are equal to the crustal clarke values from Li Tong and Dai Wentian. The activation and migration of the element Au are believed to be governed by the temperatures and transported media especially variable valent elements and their compounds (principally H 2O, Cl, CO 2 , S and Fe). The associated sediments are also correlated with the transported media especially the valence numbers of the above\|mentioned multivalent elements. It was indicated in this study that there were negative relations between the concentrations of suspended solid (SS) and transparency according to the analysis of measured data of Lake Taihu. Their relations in pervious studies were reviewed, which showed that the changes of transparency in Lake Taihu could be reflected by simulating suspended solid concentration (SSC). Measured data showed that the changes of SSC with wind speed were similar at different water *** increased with the increasing of wind speed. Both wave and lake current of Lake Taihu had positive relations with SSC. However, wave was the main factor affecting sediment suspension, while flow took the second place. In this study, a numerical model coupling lake current, wave and SSC of Lake Taihu was developed. In the SS model, the combined effects of wave and current were *** amounts of suspended and deposited sediments near the lake bed surface layer were treated separately. The stochastic characteristics of turbulent flow pulsation near lake beds were also considered, and the start-up conditions of sediment suspension were introduced to the model. The model elucidated the mutual exchange processes between sediment particles in SS and active sediments within and on the bed surface layer. Simulated results showed that lake current had relatively significant effects on the SSC at littoral areas of Lake Taihu, while SSC at the central area of the lake was mainly influenced by wave. The changes of transparency with SSC were simulated for Lake Taihu using this model. Calculated results were validated by measured data with good fitness, which indicated that the model is basically suitable for the simulation and prediction of transparency of Lake Taihu.

After tracking the historical distribution of the pectinids being very capable of dispersion, it is easy to be found that the bivalves Chlamys (Chlamys) valoniensis (Defrance), Camptonectes (Camptonectes) auritus (von Schlo-theim) and Chlamys (Chlamys) textoria (von Schlotheim) first occurred in the Late Rhaetian, the end of the Triassic, or the earliest Hettangian, the earliest Jurassic of western Europe, and subsequently they spread into the southeastern coast of Palaeo-pacific through the Hispanic Corridor during the Hettangian or a little later. It has demonstrated that the Hispanic epicontinental seaway became established along the rifting area between North America and South America and Africa of the Pangaean supercontinent as early as Hettangian or even earlier, connecting western Tethys and eastern Palaeo-pacific and providing a corridor for migration and exchange of creatures between Tethys and Palaeo-pacific.

Geochemical simulation of the formation of brine and salt minerals based on Pitzer model in Caka Salt Lake

The geochemical simulation of the formation of brine and salt minerals based on Pitzer model was made in Caka Salt Lake. The evolution of the mixed surface-water and the mineral sequences were calculated and compared with the hydrochemical compositions of the brine and the salt minerals of the deposit in Caka Salt Lake. The results show that the formation temperature of the lake is between 0°C and 5°C, which is well identical with other studies. The mixing of salt-karst water with the surface waters, neglected by the former researchers, is very important to the formation of the lake, indicating that the initial waters resulting in the formation of the lake are multi-source. It is the first time to use Pitzer model in china for making geochemical simulation of the formation and evolution of inland salt lake and satisfactory results have been achieved.

The Cambrian trilobite Bathynotus is a special morphology of Redlichiid,which is characterized by a wider thorax axis and an 11th macropleural segment bearing a long,backwardly directed ***,its 12th and 13th pleural segments are narrow and they terminate at a fulcrum where they fuse together and to the posterior edge of the long macropleural *** genus is widely distributed,occurring in North America,Siberia,the Altay-Sayan fold belt of Russia,South china,the Tarim Basin of china,and *** occurs primarily in deposits of the upper part of the continental slope,at the transition between stable platform settings and subsiding margins of the late Early ***,we recognize three species of Bathynotus from china,including *** which is widespread around the *** six species of Bathynotus have been reported from Siberia and the Altay-Sayan fold belt area of Russia,data presented here suggest that only three of these species are *** exhibits a short geological range,with its first occurrence late in the unnamed Cambrian Series 2 and the last appearance datum of Bathynotus at the boundary of Cambrian Series 2 and Cambrian Series *** late appearance datum(LAD) of Bathynotus provides an important global stratigraphic marker of the boundary between Cambrian Series 2 and Cambrian Series 3.

The Lower Cretaceous extensively distributed in Zhejiang contains abundant fossil plants. Since most of the fossils are so fragmentary, it is difficult to make a definite determination at specific level. The cuticle remains are very rare; only two species were reported (Chow and Tsao, 1979), namely, Pseudofrenelopsis parceramosa (Font.) Watson and P. papillosa (Chow et Tsao). This paper deals with several specimens of Gymnospermae, paying particular attention to the characteristics of the cuticular structure. These specimens belong to Nilssonia, Pseudofrenelopsis, Cupressinocladus and Brachyphyllum respectively, all being yielded from the four localities: 1. Suqin of Gymnospermae, paying particular attention to the characteristics of the cuticular structure. These specimens belong to Nihsonia, Pseudafrenelopsis, Cupressi-nocladus and Brachyphyllum respectively, all being yielded from the four localities: 1. Suqin of Xinchang County (Guantou Formation); 2. Shen-jia of Zhuji County (Shouchang Formation); 3. Pingshan of Lin’an County (Shouchang Formation); and 4. Laocun of Jiande County (Laocure Formation), as shown in the map of fossil localities in this paper.
