MApK families play an important role in complex cellular programs like proliferation, differentiation, development, transformation, and apoptosis. At least three MApI(families have been characterized: extracellular signal-regulated kinase (ErK), Jun kinase (JNK/SApK) and p38 MApK. The above effects are fulfilled by regulation of cell cycle engine and other cell proliferation related proteins. In this paper we discussed their functions and cooperation with other signal pathways in regulation of cell proliferation.

The relationship between the callus formation and intracellular Ca 2+ at the early stage of development of graft unions in Ginkgo biloba L. was investigated. On the second day after grafting, part of the undamaged living cells at the graft interface of the stock and scion in the regions of the cortex and pith began to dedifferentiate or divide. 8 d after grafting, a great number of callus cells were produced from the cortex and phloem, while callus bridges linking the stock with scion formed between the callus cells of the graft partners from the cortex. A membrane Ca 2+ probe, chlortetracycline (CTC), was used to locate the intracellular Ca 2+ distribution and it was found that the cortical and pith parenchyma cells were the first to show remarkably increased CTC Ca 2+ fluorescence, suggesting that the cortical and other parenchyma cells play a leading role at the early stage of development of graft unions by earlier dedifferentiation and more rapid production of callus cells.

This study was designed to analyze the changes of phytohormone concentrations, calcium fraction, and the activities of degrading enzymes during calcium-inhibited and ethyleneglycol-bis-（β-aminoethyl ether）N, N＇-tetraacetic acid （EGTA）-induced abscission of tomato pedicel explants. Added calcium caused an increase in the total calcium content within the abscission zone and produced a corresponding reduction （20%） in pedicel explant abscission. As expected, EGTA treatment produced the opposite effect and resulted in a decrease in the total calcium content, while accelerating abscission of pedicel explants. Hormone analysis revealed that indole-3-acetic acid （IAA） concentrations in the abscission zone first decreased and then increased before the occurrence of abscission in all treatments, with the greatest effect produced by addition of EGTA. Similarly, abscisic acid （ABA）, and gibberellin （GA1＋3） concentrations, and ethylene production were elevated in the abscission zone during the first 16 h before abscission when explants imbibed EGTA. With calcium treatment, the concentrations of ABA, ethylene, and GA1＋3 also increased in pedicels throughout the first 16 h following exposure, but the increase was slower and less dramatic than with EGTA. Both cellulase and polygalacturonase were induced in the explants during abscission and the activities were also strengthened by treatment with EGTA. Calciumtreated explants produced lower hydrolysing enzyme activities than controls throughout abscission. Calcium played a role of mediating hormone balance and degrading enzymes activities and affected on abscission.

Distant hybridization leads to different ploidy fishes

Distant hybridization makes it possible to transfer the genome of one species to another, which results in changes in phenotypes and genotypes of the progenies. This study shows that distant hybridization or the combination of this method with gynogenesis or androgenesis lead to different ploidy fishes with genetic variation, including fertile tetraploid hybrids, sterile triploid hybrids, fertile diploid hybrids, fertile diploid gynogenetic fish, and their derived progenies. The formations of the different ploidy fishes depend on the genetic relationship between the parents. In this study, several types of distant hybridization, including red crucian carp (Carassius auratus red var.) (2n=100, abbreviated as rCC) (♀)×common carp (Cyprinus carpio L.) (2n=100, abbreviated as CC) (♂), and rCC (2n=100) (♀)×blunt snout bream (Megalobrama amblycephala) (2n=48, abbreviated as BSB) (♂) are described. In the distant hybridization of rCC (♀)×CC (♂), bisexual fertile F3–F18 allotetraploid hybrids (4n=200, abbreviated as 4nAT) were formed. The diploid hybrid eggs and diploid sperm generated by the females and males of 4nAT developed into diploid gynogenetic hybrids and diploid androgenetic hybrids, respectively, by gynogenesis and androgenesis, without treatment for doubling the chromosome. Improved tetraploid hybrids and improved diploid fishes with genetic variation were derived from the gynogenetic hybrid line. The improved diploid fishes included the high-body rCC and high-body goldfish. The formation of the tetraploid hybrids was related to the occurrence of unreduced gametes generated from the diploid hybrids, which involved in premeiotic endoreduplication, endomitosis, or fusion of germ cells. The sterile triploid hybrids (3n=150) were produced on a large scale by crossing the males of tetraploid hybrids with females of diploid fish (2n=100). Five strains of alginate-degrading bacteria Were isolated from the decaying parts of Laminria japonicaand Undaria pinnatifida and identified as Alteromonas espejiana (Strain A101, A102, A103, A105 ) and Alteromonas macleodii(Strain A104). When incubated at 25 t for 144 h in the liquid mediuxn which contamed 0. 5%peptone, 0. 3% -0. 6%sodium alginate, 0. 1 % yeast extract, 3% NaCI, pH 7. 5, the stain A102 pnduced the highest amount of alginase.

Human group IB phospholipase A2 (IB-pLA2) and its zymogen (proIB-pLA2) were purified from E. coli. refolding was carried out by diluting the denatured forms of both IB-pLA2 and proIB-pLA2 with renaturation buffer in which the disulfide bonds were completely reduced. The refolding yield of proIB-pLA2 was increased by about 50% over that of the mature enzyme. The refolding of IB-pLA2 usually produced aggregates under normal conditions, as determined by light scattering. In addition, the unfolding experiments showed that the mature enzyme was more stable than the proenzyme toward denaturants in the presence of DTT. results suggested that the N-terminal sequence rather than its conformation of human proIB-pLA2 played an important role in the refolding process.

The phylogenic and genetic relationships in germplasm resources of Chinese Ziziphus were studied at molecular levels, for providing new molecular evidences of classification, protection, and utilization of germplasm resources of Ziziphus. The sequence-related amplified polymorphism （SrAp） was assessed to analyse the genetic relationships among 14 species of Ziziphus, 11 cultivars of Z. jujuba Mill., and one outgroup. A total of 580 DNA bands were amplified by 19 selective primers, 570 of which （98.28%） were polymorphic. The average number of polymorphic DNA bands amplified by each primer was 30. The genetic similarities of 26 sample materials were between 0.22 and 0.99. UpGMA method cluster analysis showed that 26 sample materials were classified into six cluster groups with the genetic similarity of 0.28. The results showed that SrAp technique is efficient in studying genetic relationships among Ziziphus, Z. jujuba Mill. and Z. acidojujuba C. Y. Cheng et M. J. Liu which should be treated as one species, and further infraspecific classification of Z. jujuba Mill. should be classified into two subspecies; the scientific names of new taxa, Chinese jujube, and wild jujube were Ziziphus jujuba Mill. subsp, jujuba and Ziziphus jujuba Mill. subsp, spinosa （Bunge） J. Y. peng, X. Y. Li et L. Li, respectively. Z. xiangchengensis Y. *** et p. K. Chou, Z. montana W.W. Smith and Z. mairei Dode might be originated from same ancestry. Z xiangchengensis Y. L. Chen et p. K. Chou and Z. montana W.W. Smith should be treated as one species. The infrasubspecific taxon of Z. jujuba Mill. was not suitable to set up varieties.
