Currently sparse signal reconstruction gains considerable interest and is applied in many fields. In this paper, a similarity induced by joint sparse representation is designed to construct the likelihood function of particle filter tracker so that the color visual spectrum and thermal spectrum images can be fused for object tracking. The proposed fusion scheme performs joint sparse representation calculation on both modalities and the resultant tracking results are fused using min operation on the sparse representation coefficients. In addition, a co-learning approach is proposed to update the reference templates of both modality and enhance the tracking robustness. The proposed fusion scheme outperforms state-of-the-art approaches, and its effectiveness is verified using OTCBVS database.

The structure and characteristic of fuzzy subsets are discussed by using the concepts of granulation and hierarchy in quotient space theory. First, the equivalence relation based quotient space theory is extended to the fuzzy tolerance relation. Second, the isomorphism and its discriminant of fuzzy tolerance relations are discussed. Finally, by using the fuzzy tolerance relation to define the fuzzy subset, its properties are addressed. The main results are given below: (1) several equivalent statements of fuzzy tolerance relations; (2) the definition of isomorphism of fuzzy tolerance relations; (3) the isomorphic discriminant of fuzzy tolerance relations; (4) the definition and properties of fuzzy subsets based on the fuzzy tolerance relations; and (5) the necessary and sufficient condition of the isomorphism of fuzzy subsets. These results will help us further comprehend the concepts of fuzzy tolerance relations and fuzzy subsets.

The main focus of this paper is on designing a T-S fuzzy controller for the hypersonic vehicle. The longitudinal dynamics of the vehicle are studied using time-scale decomposition to reduce the complexity of T-S modeling. The dynamic inversion with PI control technique is applied for the slow dynamics to derive the flight path angle command and throttle setting by taking the pilot altitude and velocity command as its inputs. The T-S fuzzy controller is designed for the fast dynamics to derive the elevator deflection to track the flight path angle command. The discrepancy between the T-S model and real vehicle model is considered by using sliding mode control for the system stability. Simulation results are included to show the effectiveness of the controller.

This paper analyzed the fundamental limitations of previous work and developed a new method to optimally locate actuators and sensors for structures with close modes. Optimization criteria were defined based on the distinguishing modal controllability and observability measures of close modes. An appropriate genetic algorism was adopted as the optimization algorism. Solving the high order Lyapunov functions was avoided by means of the closed-form expressions for controllability and observability Grammians. Since structure with widely separated natural frequencies is approximately balanced, computational efficiency was improved by grouping close modes together and dealing with the resulting subsystems independently. Finally, the effectiveness and optimality of the novel placement scheme were verified on a model structure with close modes.

The interactions between the new organometallic complexes, ferrocene-substituted dithio-o-carborane conjugates (denoted as FcSB1, FcSB2 and FcSBCO) and hemoglobin (Hb) are investigated by electrochemistry, fluorescence and UV-vis absorption spectroscopy. The results demonstrate that FcSB1, FcSB2 and FcSBCO can bind to the heme iron center through the replacement of the weakly bound H2O/O2 in the distal heme pocket of Hb by their sulfur donor atoms, inducing the allosteric change from the R state (oxygenated conformation, relax) to T state (deoxygenated conformation, tense). The binding affinity is in the order of FcSBCO>FcSB2>FcSB1. Moreover, the fluorescence study illustrates that the three ferrocene-carborane conjugates differently affect the quarterly and tertiary structures as well as the polarity in the surrounding of the Trp and Tyr residues in Hb. Typically, FcSB2 mainly induces alterations of the microenvironment around the β37Trp residue which is located on the α1β2 interface of Hb. Such distinct influences are attributed to the structural features of FcSB1, FcSB2 and FcSBCO containing hydrophobic ferrocenyl and carboranyl units as well as C=O group. Screening the protein-binding behavior can signify the potential bioactivity of such molecules and may be helpful in the future development of promising multifunctional metallodrugs.

Two algorithms for the phase retrieval of hard X-ray in-line phase contrast imaging are presented. One is referred to as Iterative Angular Spectrum Algorithm (IASA) and the other is a hybrid algorithm that combines IASA with TIE (transport of intensity equation). The calculations of the algorithms are based on free space propagation of the angular spectrum. The new approaches are demonstrated with numerical simulations. Comparisons with other phase retrieval algorithms are also performed. It is shown that the phase retrieval method combining the IASA and TIE is a promising technique for the application of hard X-ray phase contrast imaging.

Tissue P systems are distributed parallel and non-deterministic computing models in the framework of membrane computing, which are inspired by intercellular communication and cooperation between neurons. Recently, cell separation is introduced into tissue P systems, which enables systems to generate an exponential workspace in a polynomial time. In this work, the computational power of tissue P systems with cell separation is investigated. Specifically, a uniform family of tissue P systems with cell separation is constructed for effciently solving a well-known NP-complete problem, the partition problem.
