Here we report that in freely behaving mice,one group of neurons in the basolateral amygdala（BLA） could respond to diverse menaces such as heights and moving *** baseline firing rates of these neurons were remarkably low,about（0.1±0.12） Hz.A subset of these neurons can be selectively activated by fear of *** firing rates increased dramatically[（11.39±0.86） Hz]when mice stayed on an elevated platform（10 cm long,7 cm wide,and 10 cm high）;their firing rates could reach 50 Hz when mice fell from a high *** subset of these neurons was sensitive to the movement regardless of other properties of *** neurons could respond to all kinds of moving objects,such as moving toys,shaking hands,and flashing characters on the computer *** firing rates increased significantly to 30-60 Hz when given strikingly different moving *** group of neurons in the BLA fires tonically under anxiety conditions in both open-field and elevated plus-maze *** firing patterns of these neurons displayed a characteristic slow onset and progressively increased firing ***,these firing patterns were correlated to a gradual development of anxiety-like behaviors in the open-field ***, these neurons could be activated by any impoverished environment similar to an open-field;and introduction of both comfortable and uncomfortable stimuli temporarily suppressed the activity o

Dynamics of the Coordination of Economy-Society and Resource-environment in Shandong Peninsula,china

Shandong Peninsula,as a more developed region in Shandong Province even the east coast of china,is facing challenges from resources and environment *** paper tried to track and assess the coordination status and the dynamic between resource-environment and economy-society systems in Shandong Peninsula during 2001-2008 in order to provide decision support for regional *** appraisal index system was built including five aspects of harmony degree(A),sustainability degree(B),opening degree(C),stability degree(D) and controllability degree(E).The results showed that:1) The coordination level of resource-environment and economy-society in Shandong Peninsula has continuously grown,and it has undergone three stages:no coordinated degree(2001-2002),weak coordinated degree(2003-2006) and basically coordinated degree(2007-2008).2) Five indexes of criterion hierarchy also increased overall,but each index showed different *** degree,sustainability degree and opening degree rose all the time,while stability degree and controllability degree alternately rose and *** improvement of controllability degree was the slowest.3) The aggravating trend of environmental pollution was slowing *** economic growth was driven by industrial growth and urbanization typically and investment was still the main force to pull the regional economic *** the same time,technology and education were becoming more and more important for economic *** level of foreign capital utility declined and the geographical advantage of Shandong Peninsula was *** some characteristics of knowledge economy were *** resources become the main constraint factor of fast development in Shandong *** is necessary to further strengthen the coordination ability of government on regional sustainable development.

Speciation of the elements and compositions on the surfaces of dust storm particles:The evidence for the coupling of iron with sulfur in aerosol during the long-range transport

The speciation of the elements on the surface of the particles collected during dust storm and non-dust storm in Beijing and Inner Mongolia was studied by XPS. The ma- jor species of iron on the surface were oxides, sulfate, silicate, FeOOH and minor part sorbed on SiO2/Al2O3. Sulfate is the dominant species of sulfur on the surface. SiO2 and Al2O3 are the main components of Si and Al on the surface respectively. One of the most important findings was that the Fe(II) (FeS and FeSO4) produced could account for up to 44.3% and 45.6% of the total Fe on the surface in the aerosol sample collected at that night and next day of the “peak” time of the dust storm occurring on March 20, 2002, while Fe2(SO4)3, one of the Fe(III) species on the surface decreased from 67.1% to 49.5% and 48.0% respectively. Both S and Fe en- riched on the surface of aerosol particles. Fe(II) accounted for 1.3%?5.3% of total Fe in bulk aerosol samples during dust storm. These results provided strong evidence to sup- port the hypothesis of the coupling between iron and sulfur in aerosols during the long-range transport, which would have important impact on the global biogeochemical cycle.

Cherts in the Laobao Formation in the Silikou section,South china were deposited in terminal Ediacaran *** speciations of iron in cherts,such as pyrite Fe(FeP),HCl-extractable Fe(FeH),and total Fe(FeT),and their interrelationships,are proxies for distinguishing oxic,anoxic but ferruginous,and sulfidic conditions,which is an effective method for studying the terminal Ediacaran ocean *** chert samples from the Laobao Formation,pyrite concentrations are generally low(china Basin was most likely anoxic and ferruginous,which played a key role in the emergence and evolution of early multicellular life.

＜正＞ The negative effect of sand events to environment has been received increasing attention from home and abroad. It causes enormous visibility declination and severe air pollution. Based on the analysis of sand event days and the according visibility from 1971 to 2000 in Beijing meteorology station, it finds the minimum of mean visibility occurs around 2:00 Pm, and the maximum frequency of low visibility occurs around 8:00 Am, which may be related to pollution recharge and atmosphere motivation. The visibility of dust haze and dust storm is always in the range of 100 km, and, of sand storm, is 40 km. In all kinds of sand events, the normal deviation of visibility is in the opposite trend compared to its mean value. The normal deviation of visibility is smallest in dust haze, followed by dust storm and sand storm respectively. The high frequency for dust haze and dust storm events to occur is in the range of 90 days, The frequency of dust haze event within 60 days occupies 68.5% of the whole occurrence frequency of dust hazes;of dust storm, it occupies 88.9%. Dew to the low frequency of sand storms, averagely one time in one year, there are always long between the adjacent sand storms. The accumulation rate of interval occurrence days of adjacent dust hazes, dust storms, and sand storms respectively is 2.72%, 0.82%, and 13.97%.

Study on the changes of water cycle and its impacts in the source region of the Yellow River

The water cycle in the source region of the Yellow River underwent great changes in the 1990s. The major features of the changes are as follows: the gauged runoff declined significantly while the precipitation increased slightly, and the runoff process was more concentrated on the flood season. Water balance analyses indicate that the pondage was kept in the status of negative equilibrium, causing eco-environmental problems. The runoff decrement is due to evaporation increment in this region. Studies show that the runoff process in this region is closely related to that of the other hydrological stations in the upper reaches. When the runoff declines in the source regions, the amount of water also declines in the whole upper reaches of the Yellow River, affecting the balance between water demand and supply. Meanwhile changes will take place in the water cycle of the river course system when the eco-environment deteriorates. The trend of water cycle change in the source region is that the runoff will keep declining with the increment of evaporation caused by temperature rise in the northwest of china in the 21st century. But the hydraulic engineering in the source region will help to mitigate the deterioration of local eco-environment system, though the impacts to the lower reaches of this project may not be the case.

Abstract Alien transgene escape from genetically engineered rice to non-transgenic varieties or close wild relatives (includingweedy rice) may lead to unpredictable ecological risks. However, for transgene escape to occur three conditions need to be met: (i) spa-tially, transgenic rice and its non-transgenic counterparts or wild relatives should have sympatric distributions; (ii) temporally, the flower-ing time of transgenic rice and the non-transgenic varieties or wild relatives should overlap; and (iii) biologically, transgenic rice and itswild relative species should have such a sufficiently close relationship that their interspecific hybrids can have normal generative reproduc-tion. This paper presents research data on the geographic distribution, flowering habits, interspecific hybridization, and gene flow of culti-vated rice (Oryza sativa) and its closely related wild relatives containing the AA genome. We compared photosynthetic characteristics of three Stipa species in NECT,Stipa baicalensis,*** and *** based on ecophysiological traits derived from parameters of a photosynthesis *** net photosynthesis rates,transpiration rate and stomatal conductance,together with microclimate variables of the respective species and sites were observed in July *** photosynthesis rates of three Stipa species were then regressed on incident light intensity,leaf temperature and CO2 partial pressure,and stomatal conductance by means of the nonlinear least square technique and the modified Thornley and Johson’s leaf photosynthesis *** results showed that Thornley and Johson’s photosynthesis model explained on 60.49%,86.17% and 81.36% of variations in observed net photosynthesis rates for three ***,*** and ***,*** difference in photosynthetic characteristics for three Stipa species explained adaptation to conditions of their respective *** photo efficiency of *** is an adaption to lower photosynthetic active radiation （PAR） at high latitude of the meadow steppe *** the other hand,*** in typical steppe and *** in desert steppe sites are located at lower latitude with more available PAR,thus they showed relative lower photon *** conductance of *** is low because of their low leaf nitrogen concentration,which may be caused by the low available soil nitrogen due to low decomposition rates at high *** contrast to ***,*** shows much lower base rate of mitochondria respiration because of higher leaf temperature often experienced by plants at desert steppes.
