This paper reports species composition, horizontal distribution and seasonal variation of total individual and dominant species of the Siphonophora and their relationship to the environmental factors. Materials from the water layers within 0～200 m were collected during the periods of September, 1983, April and May, July and August, and December, 1984 in the study region (12°-19°30′N, 111°-118°E, Fig. 1).

The bacterial community in deep subseafloor sediments at a depth of 230 cm from the western Pacific "warm pool" is studied by construction of 16S rDNA clone library and PCR-RFLP (Restriction Fragment Length Polymorphism) analysis. The results indicate that the bacterial community in these sediments is mainly composed of five groups: α-Proteobacteria, β-Proteobacteria, CFB group (Cytophaga / Flexi-bacteria / Bacteroides), Acidobacteria and gram positive bacteria, with a few genera detected in each group. The most abundant bacteria group is α-Proteobacteria, and the next is β-Proteobacteria. The dominant species in α-and β-Proteobacteria are Sphingomonas paucimobilis and Pseudomonas alca-ligenes respectively. The CFB group is simply composed of members belonging to Flavobacterium. The gram positive bacteria are rich, and mainly consists of the genus Geobacillus. The analysis of bacterial community indicates that organic matter is still abundant in the subseafloor sediments at the depth of 230 cm in the western Pacific "warm pool" . These bacteria in this deep biosphere may play an impor-tant role in the nitrogen cycle of deep sea sediments at "warm pool" .

A description is given of the distribution , spacial and temporal variation , mixing and transportation processes about the plume front in the Hangzhou Bay. This front is performed as a group of interfaces among, the water masses situated in the bay. A discussion is also given of the circulation feature in the frontal zone ence of the front.

According to the morphology, wall structure, color, ornamentation, etc., 25 species belonging to 9 genera are identified and described from 144 sediment samples of the Xiamen Harbor, the mouth of the Minjiang River and the Sansha Bay. Among them there are 2 toxic species: Alexandrium minutun,A. tamarenes, 4 harmful species: Alexandrium affine,Lingulodinium polX drum, Scrippsiella trochoide,Gonyaulax spinifera. It shows that 11 species of dinoflagellate cysts (Alexandrium affine, A. minutum, Diplopelta cf. parva, Polykrikos cf. schwartzii, protoceratium reticulatum, Protoperidinium minutum, P. cf. minutum, P. cf americanum and Alexandrium sp., Protoperidinium sp. 1, P. sp. 2) are first recorded along the coast of Fujian Province, china. These newly discovered species might be transported to the coastal sea of Fujian Province by ballast water of international trade vessels.

The different forms fluoine in different parts of molting process of krill was analyzed by culture of Antarctic krill (Euphausia superba). The results shaw that fluorine amount in cuticle is up to 90% of total in the krill. During the krill molting process, the fluorine content in cuticle and muscle varies alternatively. This is to say, the fluorine content in new cuticle and muscle is much lower after molted, the fluorine in krill comes from seawater by biological absorption of the krill, and the fluorine absorbed by krill lost with the old cuticle at the end stage of molting process. Meanwhile, the new molting process starts again. The evidence is proved by the change of different forms fluorine content in cuticle and muscle during krill's molting process. At last the author proposes the fluorine enriching process model of Antarctic krill.

In this paper,the aquatic chemical characteristics in the Hangzhou Bay,Xiangshan Bay and Leqing Bay along the coastal region of Zhejiang Province are discussed . Results show that the seasonal variations of chemical elements are obvious. The distribution of silicate in Hangzhou Bay and contents of dissolved oxygen and nutrient in the Xiangshan Bay are found to be unusual in winter. Correlations among the elements are complex. The content of nutrient in the Hangzhou Bay is higher than that in Xiangshan Bay and the content of nutrient in the Xiangshan Bay is higher than that in the Leqing Bay . The variation of the ratio of N/P is obvious. This reflects the aquatic chemical characteristics in the bay. Finally, this paper also discusses the reason why the aquatic chemical characteristics in the bays are unusual.

Teleconnection between El Nino/La Nina-Southern Oscillation （ENSO） phenomenon and anomalous Antarctic sea-ice variation has been studied *** this study,impacts of sea surface temperature in the Indian Ocean on Antarctic sea-ice change were investigated during Janaury 1979 and October *** on previous research results,sea areas in the western Indian Ocean （WIO;50°–70°E,10 °–20 °S） are selected for the *** variables showed 1-10 year interannual timescales by Fast Founer Tranaform （FFT） *** show that i） strong WIO signals emerged in the anomalous changes of Antarctic sea-ice concentration;ii） significant positive correlations occurred around the Antarctic Peninsula,Ross Sea and its northwest peripheral sea region iii） negative correlation occurred in the Indian Ocean section of the Southern Ocean,Amundsen Seas,and the sea area over northern Ross Sea;and iv） the atmospheric anomalies associated with the WIO including wind,meridional heat flux,and surface air temperature over southern high latitudes were the possible factors for the teleconnection.

The species of iodine in the water samples collected from the west Pacific Ocean and its adjacent seas were analysed. Results show that the concentration of total inorganic iodine appears higher in the south than that in the north of the Equator. The iodide concentration is distributed symmetrically on both sides of the Equator in tropic and subtropic zones and it decreases away from the Equator. Around the Antarctic Divergence iodide concentration approaches its minimum in the surface waters .which only accounts for 10% of the total iodine. The dissolved organic iodine concentration keeps constant generally either in horizontal or in vertical. Discussions on the relationships of iodine with chemical, biological and hydrological factors reveal that iodine has a transitional behavior between conservative and biodepleting elements; I/S ratio is of a certain stability on a vast scale, however, it may be largely affected by organism activity in some zones. Besides, evidence shows that iodine is adsorbed by organic particles in surface water but released as the remineral-ization of the organic particles occurs near the bottom of euphotic layer, which makes iodine look as if it is depleted by organisms like the nutrients.
