The registration of multitemperal remote sensing images before and after a disaster is a challenging *** main reason is that there is a dearth of homologous features that can be used as tie points for registration of variform *** paper proposes a new registration method based on robust kernel pattern vector(KPv) for water objects in the remote sensing images,which have complex deformation before and after a *** show how the variform objects can be precisely registered using their robust kernel pattern vectors(RKPvs).The contribution can be divided into three ***,a novel shape descriptor,named as kernel pattern vector(KPv),is ***,a robust kernel principal component analysis(RKPCA) method is proposed,which can not only capture the common pattern of the variform objects but can also act as the Criterion for outlier ***,a registration approach is derived based on the implicit *** demonstrate the power of the proposed approach by comparing it with other existing methods using two real cases:one for lake monitoring in the Jiayu region,and the other for damage mapping of earthquake-induced barrier lake at Tangjiashan(2008 Wenchuan Earthquake).The results show that the method is effective in capturing the common structural pattern of the variform objects before and after a disaster.

The age of infection approach introduced by Kermack and Mckendrick in 1927 gives a unified way of describing and analyzing a variety of epidemic models, including models with multiple stages, treatment, and heterogeneous mixing. The author gives a description of the main results for such models, emphasizing the use of the final size relation to estimate the size of the epidemic.

Geomorphic impacts of timber harvesting

Timber harvesting influences (a) forest hydrology; (b) fluvial geomorphology; (c) terrain stability; and (d) integrated watershed behavior. Impacts on forest hydrology are well understood and include increased average runoff, total water yield, increased storm runoff and advances in timing of floods. Stream channels and valley floors are impacted differently by fine sediment, coarse sediment and large woody debris transport. Terrain stability is influenced through gully and mass movement processes that are accelerated by timber harvesting. Impacts on integrated watershed behavior are assessed through disturbed sediment budgets and lake sediments.

Mixed-layer water oscillations in tropical Pacific for ENSO cycle

The main modes of interannal variabilities of thermocline and sea surface wind stress in the tropical Pacific and their interactions are investigated,which show the following results.(1) The thermocline anomalies in the tropical Pacific have a zonal dipole pattern with 160°W as its axis and a meridional seesaw pattern with 6-8°N as its transverse *** meridional oscillation has a phase lag of about 90° to the zonal oscillation,both oscillations get together to form the El Ni?o/La Ni?a cycle,which be-haves as a mixed layer water oscillates anticlockwise within the tropical Pacific basin between equator and 12°N.(2) There are two main patterns of wind stress anomalies in the tropical Pacific,of which the first component caused by trade wind anomaly is characterized by the zonal wind stress anomalies and its corresponding divergences field in the equatorial Pacific,and the abnormal cross-equatorial flow wind stress and its corresponding divergence field,which has a sign opposite to that of the equatorial region,in the off-equator of the tropical North Pacific,and the second component represents the wind stress anomalies and corresponding divergences caused by the ITCz anomaly.(3) The trade winds anomaly plays a decisive role in the strength and phase transition of the ENSO cycle,which results in the sea level tilting,provides an initial potential energy to the mixed layer water oscillation,and causes the opposite thermocline displacement between the west side and east side of the equator and also between the equator and 12°N of the North Pacific basin,therefore determines the amplitude and route for ENSO *** ITCz anomaly has some effects on the phase transition.(4) The thermal anomaly of the tropical western Pacific causes the wind stress anomaly and extends eastward along the equator accompanied with the mixed layer water oscillation in the equatorial Pacific,which causes the trade winds anomaly and produces the anomalous wind stress and the corresponding di

Dongting Lake,located in the middle and lower reaches of Yangtze,is regarded as a lake during the water swelling period and a continent in the ebbing *** construction of the Three-Gorge Dam has influenced the water level of Dongting Lake and the growth of wetland macrophytes in the *** this study,the growth of main species of wetland macrophytes,such as Carex and Phragmites at Dongting Lake,was observed,and the hydraulic gradient,one of the main factors dominating the abundance and distribution of wetland macrophytes,was also studied at six stations in Dongting Lake area and the effect of the Three-Gorge Dam construction on the growth of wetland macrophytes was observed.

MODELLING OF MICROSTRUCTURE EvOLUTION ANDPROPERTIES OF LOW-CARBON STEELS

The microstructure evolution has been investigated for hot rolling of advanced low carbon steels containing Nb, Ti, v and Cu. The critical processing step to develop the properties of hot rolled steels is cooling after rolling when the austenite-to-ferrite transformation as well as precipitation takes place thereby determining the final mi- crostructure. Thus, the modelling work emphasizes the kinetics of errite formation. Ferrite growth rates can adequately be described by taking into account a solute-drag- like effect of Mn and Nb. The emphasis of the model is to predict the phase transfor- mation kinetics for the industrial practice of accelerated cooling. The ferrite grain size is essentially determined at the early stages of transformation and can be correlated to the trunsformation start temperature. Pcarbides and nitrides of Nb, Ti and v is controlled by Ostwald ripening of these particles. The ageing behaviour can then be described based on the Shercliff-Ashby model for precipitation hardening. The situa- tion is more complex for Cu precipitation where the ageing response is also related to a sequence of different precipitation types.

INCIPIENT MOTION OF NON-COHESIvE SEDIMENT UNDER ICE COvER-AN EXPERIMENTAL STUDY

Based on a series of experiments under both ice-covered and free surface conditions, the present article discusses the role of flow velocity and critical shear Reynolds number for incipient motion of bed material. The influence of the resistance coefficients of both the underside of the ice cover and the channel bed on the location of the maximum velocity has been discussed. In addition, the impacts of ice and composite resistance coefficients on flow velocity for incipient motion of bed material have been assessed. The diagram describing the critical shear Reynolds number and the dimensionless shear stress for the incipient motion of sediment under ice covered conditions with different under cover resistance coefficient has been established. The effects of grain size on densimetric Froude number for incipient motion of bed material have been investigated. A relationship between the densimetric Froude number for incipient motion of bed material and the median grain size of bed material as well as the roughness coefficient of channel bed and roughness coefficient of ice cover has been established.

DEFORMATION FEATURES OF MANTLE XENOLITHS ALONG TANLU FAULT zONE AND THEIR GEOLOGICAL IMPLICATIONS

The mantle xenoliths from 6 localities along and eastward of the active Tanlu fault zone are mostly spinel lherzolite, with few exception of wehrlite. The textures are variable from initial porphyroclastic through granuloblaslic to mylonitic. The analysis of mineral equilibria has revealed that these xenoliths attained to a good state of *** equilibrium temperatures determined by using 3 different methods are 700-1000℃, while the pressures have been estimated to be in a range of 0.9-2.5 GPa. The constructed geotherms have shown that most of the points lie above the theorectical continental geotherm, indicating the existence of an upper mantle diapir associated with tectonic extension known to occur in thus region. The low temperature of mylonitic xenoliths indicates the existence of an active shear zone just below the crust. It might control the development of seismically active zone in this region.
