This review highlights work from the authors' laboratory on the recent development of seed-mediated growth method for noble metal *** seed-mediated growth method has become one of the most efficient and versatile methods for synthesizing high-quality noble metal *** seed-mediated growth method can separate the nucleation and growth stages of metal nanocrystals,and thus provide better control over the size,size distribution,and crystallographic evolution of metal *** of its high controllability,the seed-mediated growth method is especially promising in providing mechanistic insights into the growth mechanisms of noble metal *** this review,the thermodynamic and kinetic parameters for the nucleation and growth of noble metal nanocrystals are systematically *** understanding of these parameters is *** studies provide useful guidelines for the rational design and synthesis of novel noble metal nanocrystals with high quality.

Loess on the high mountains of northwestern china is largely controlled by the topographic features,distributed mainly on the northern slopes of the Tianshan and Kunlun *** well as in the Ili Valley(between the northern and central Tianshan ranges).Loess distributed in different regions has different ages,with the oldest(early Pleistocene) loess occurring in the Ili ***,mineralogical and granulometric analyses demonstrate that the loess in the three different regions has different *** loess on the northern Tianshan and Kunlun mountains is mainly derived from the Junggar and Taklimakan deserts,respectively,whereas the loess in the Ili Valley is derived mainly from the Sary-Ishikotrau Desert located in the Republic of ***,these deserts serve mostly as‘holding area’ for the silts rather than original source *** production of the silt-size particles is mainly associated with two dominant processes of glacial grinding and tectonic-induced rock ***,the loess in the studied regions can be described as"mountainous"loess rather than simply as"glacial"loess or"desert"*** is unlikely that the mechanisms of loess formation are the same in different regions,given their dependence on specific geomorphological conditions and associated processes.

Based on previous studies on the internal structures of fault belts, the fault belts in the Laoyemiao Oilfield of the Nanpu Sag can be divided into three units, a crushed zone, an upper induced fracture zone and a lower induced fracture zone according to the log response characteristics. The upper induced fracture zone is characterized by the development of pervasive fractures and has a poor sealing or non-sealing capability. It therefore can act as pathways for hydrocarbon migration. The lower induced fracture zone consists of fewer fractures and has limited sealing capability. The crushed zone has a good sealing capability comparable to mudstone and can thus prevent lateral migration of fluid. Through physical modeling and comparing laboratory data with calculated data of oil column heights of traps sealed by faults, it is concluded that the fault-sealing capability for oil and gas is limited. When the oil column height reaches a threshold, oil will spill over from the top of reservoir along the lower induced fracture zone under the action of buoyancy, and the size of reservoir will remain unchanged. Analysis of the formation mechanisms of the fault-sealed reservoirs in the Nanpu Sag indicated that the charging sequence of oil and gas in the reservoir was from lower formation to upper formation, with the fault playing an important role in oil and gas accumulation. The hydrocarbon potential in reverse fault-sealed traps is much better than that in the consequent fault-sealed traps. The reverse fault-sealed traps are favorable and preferred exploration targets.

The structural and morphological evolution of mono-domains in thin films has been investigated for a series of liquid crystalline (LC) copolyethers. The copolyethers studied were synthesized by the reaction of 1-(4-hydroxy-4 ' -biphenylyl)-2-(4-hydroxyl-phenyl)propane (TPP) with 1,7-dibromoheptane and 1,11-undecane at different compositions (coTPPs-7/11). In contrast to the solution-cast thin films without annealing, which exhibit the isotropic homogeneous molecular orientation, mono-domains with a homeotropic alignment were found in coTPP-7/11(5/5) after the thin films were annealed in the high-temperature columnar phase (Phi '). Similar to the nucleation process in polymer crystallization, transmission electron microscopic observations show that small mono-domains appear in the initial stage of annealing, where molecules form a uniaxial in-plane chain orientation. With increasing annealing time, the molecular orientation gradually became tilted with respect to the substrate surface, and finally, a uniaxial homeotropic molecular orientation was achieved after a prolonged annealing time. The lateral size of mono-domains was found to increase continuously with annealing time and grew into a circular shape, indicating an isotropic lateral growth scheme which implies a hexagonal molecular packing proved by the electron diffraction experiments.
