The structure of tectonically deformed coals shows some characteristics and regulations on the ultra-scale when influenced by different factors such as temperature,pressure and directional *** of the macromolecular structure may induce changes in the nano-scale pore structure,which are very important for gas adsorption and *** geological impact of different mechanisms of deformation on different types of ultrastructure of tectonically deformed coals is not only of significance as a topic for scientific research, but also in studying environments of metamorphism-deformation at differing metamorphic *** research is also very important in studying the accumulation and occurrence conditions of coalbed methane gas,mechanisms of coal and gas outbursts,predictions of coalbed methane resources and dangers of coal and gas *** paper analyzes current research,within china and other countries, in the ultrastructure of tectonically deformed *** research includes(1) structural models of tectonically deformed coals;(2) the relationship between ultrastructure and stress;(3) the structure of tectonically deformed coals and its strain *** results are also based on our own experiments including vitirnite reflectance(Ro,max),X-ray diffraction(XRD) and nuclear magnetic resonance (NMR(CP/MAS + TOSS)).We discuss the important effects of the structure of tectonically deformed coals and their physical properties,and then point out some problems concerning the research progress of tectonically deformed coals.

Improvement of a 3D radar backscattering model using matrix-doubling method

Radiative transfer models have been widely used to simulate the radar backscattering from forested areas. A three-dimensional radar backscatter model of forest canopy developed in previous studies takes full account of spatial position of trees in a forest stand, and the interactions among crown, trunk and ground surface. The model predicted well for the co-polarized backscatter measurements, but underestimated the backscattering for cross-polarization, primarily because only the first-order scattering within tree crowns was considered in the model. The backscattering at cross-polarization depends strongly on multiple scatter- ing within tree crowns. To produce good estimations for cross-polarized component, the matrix-doubling method is employed here to compute multiple-scattering within the crown. The modified model is compared with the original model, and the field forest measurements and AIRSAR data are used for validation of the modified model. The cross-polarization backscattering is improved in different degrees for different crown structures and at different bands.

Relationship between Surface Pollen and Modern Vegetation in Southwestern china

Based on the pollen data obtained from thirty-five surface soil samples and investigated vegetation data from seven plant quadrats,the quantitative relationship between surface soil pollen and modern vegetation are studied in the longitudinal range-gorge region (LRGR) in Southwestern china.R-values (referring to pollen assemblages) are calculated with pollen percentage and plant *** coefficients of similarity between pollen and vegetation are *** results show that the pollen assemblages on surface soil of all vegetation zones can basically represent the native vegetation,but the pollen assemblages are not fully according with the *** is due to the influencing factors including pollen preservation ability,pollen production,amount of exotic pollen and pollen *** pollen representation in surface soil is different in families and *** pollen of woody plants such as Pinus,Tsuga,Alnus,Fagus and Castanopsis are over-representative,but those of Quercus,Carpinus Myrica,Elaeocarpaceae,Ericaceae,Theaceae and Llex are underrepresentative;the pollen of herbaceous plants such as Artemisia and Rubiaceae are over-representative,while those of others including Gramineae and Araliaceae are *** R-values of the same taxon pollen in different vegetation zones are different,depending on their distances from the pollen *** coefficients of the similarity between plant communities and pollen assemblages are mostly over 70%,which indicate again that the surface soil pollen and spores assemblages can represent the *** is concluded that there is a good corresponding relationship between surface pollen assemblages and native vegetation in LRGR,and it is of great significance for reconstructing the past vegetation and paleoclimate using quantitative fossil pollen data in this region.

Structures and physical properties of rigid polyurethane foams with water as the sole blowing agent

Rigid polyurethane foams blown by varying water level were prepared in this study. The structures and physical properties of rigid polyurethane foams blown by water were measured with FT-IR, universal testing machine (Instron3365., scanning electron microscope (SEM) and differential scanning calorimeter (DSC). The results show that polyurea and polybiuret were the typical charac- teristics, and the cream time and gel time were shorter for the fully water blown rigid foams than that for the fully cyclopentane blown foams. The density of foam samples decreased from 45.0 kg/m3 to 27.4 kg/m3 with the increase of water level from 3 pph to 7 pph. Compressive strength exhibited the similar behavior with density. The average cell size of foam samples ranged from 241 μm to 35. μm with the increase of water level from 3 pph to 7 pph, respectively. At the same time, poorer dimen- sional stability was encountered with the increase of average cell size due to fast diffusion rate of CO2 out of the foam. The results of thermal analysis show that the glass transition temperature (Tg) shifted to a higher temperature with the increase of isocyanate level when more water was used as chemical blowing agent.

Direct Optimization of Low-thrust Many-revolution Earth-orbit Transfers

Low-thrust Earth-orbit transfers with 10^- 5.order thrust-to-weight ratios involve a large number of orbital revolutions which poses a real challenge to trajectory optimization. This article develops a direct method to optimize minimum-time low-thrust many-revolution Earth-orbit transfers. A parameterized control law in each orbit, in the form of the true optimal control, is proposed, and the time history of the parameters governing the control law is interpolated through a finite number of nodal values. The orbital averaging method is used to significantly reduce the computational workload and the trajectory optimization is conducted based on the orbital averaging dynamics expressed by nonsingular equinoctial elements. Furthermore, Earth＇s shadowing and perturbation effects are taken into account. The optimal transfer problem is thus converted to the parameter optimization problem that can be solved by nonlinear programming. Taking advantage of the mapping between the parameterized control law and the Lyapunov control law, a technique is proposed to acquire good initial guesses for optimization variables, which results in enlarged convergence domain of the direct optimization method. Numerical examples of optimal Earth-orbit transfers are presented.

Comparison of dynamic changes in endogenous hormones and sugars between abnormal and normal Castanea mollissima

To elucidate the possible functions of endogenous hormones in the flowering of chestnut,concentrations of four endogenous hor-mones[indole-3-acetic acid(IAA),gibberellic acid(GA),abscisic acid(ABA),zeatin riboside(ZR))and the soluble sugars content were measured in both normal and developmentally abnormal chinese chestnut(Castanea mollissima)during flowering and fruiting *** results showed that the contents of ZR,ABA,and GA exhibited a significant dierent pattern in normal trees from that in abnormal trees,while the contents of IAA and soluble sugars showed a similar change pattern between *** results suggest that quantitative changes in endogenous hormones may correspond to dierent flowering and fruiting mechanisms.

Among several implicitization methods, the method based on resultant computation is a simple and direct one, but it often brings extraneous factors which are difficult to remove. This paper studies a class of rational space curves and rational surfaces by implicitization with univaxiate resultant computations. This method is more efficient than the other algorithms in finding implicit equations for this class of rational curves and surfaces.

Identification of novel SINEs from Cyprinidae and their evolutionary significance

Short interspersed nuclear elements (SINEs) are widespread among eukaryotic genomes. They are repetitive DNA sequences that have been amplified by retrotransposition. In this study, a class of SINEs were isolated from the Opsariichthys bidens genome, and named Opsar. Sequence analysis confirmed that Opsar is a new class of typical SINEs derived from tRNA molecules. With the tRNA-derived region of Opsar and through BLASTN search, we further identified Zb-SINEs from the zebrafish genome, which includes two groups: Zb-SINE-A and Zb-SINE-B. The Zb-SINE-A. group comprises subfamilies of -Al--A5. and the Zb-SINE-B group is a dimer of the tRNA -derived region and shares a similar dimeric composition to Alu. Zb-SINEs are composed of three distinct regions: a 5. end tRNA-derived region, a tRNA-unrelated region and a 3’ end AT-rich region. The flanking regions are AT rich. The average length of Zb-SINEs elements is about 340 bp. Zb-SINEs account for as much as 0.1 % of the whole zebrafish genome. About 70% of the Zb-SINEs are on chromosomes 11, 18, and 19. These Zb-SINEs were characterized by PCR and dot hybridization. The distribution pattern of Zb-SINEs in genome strongly supports the master genes model. The tRNA-derived regions of Opsar and Zb-SINEs were compared with the tRNAAla gene, and they showed 76% similarity, indicating that Opsar and Zb-SINEs originated from an inactive tRNA sequence or a tRNA -like sequence. In view of the evolutionary status of zebrafish in the Cyprinidae, we deduced that Zb-SINEs were a very old class of interspersed sequences.
