Treatment outcomes for different subgroups of nasopharyngeal carcinoma patients treated with intensity-modulated radiation therapy

Although many studies have investigated intensity-modulated radiation therapy (IMRT) for nasopharyngeal carcinoma (NPC),sample sizes in the reported studies are usually small and different in outcomes in different T and N subgroups are seldom ***,we evaluated the outcomes of NPC patients treated with IMRT and further explored treatment strategy to improve such *** collected clinical data of 865 NPC patients treated with IMRT alone or in combination with chemotherapy,and classified all cases into the following prognostic categories according to different TNM stages:early stage group (T1-2.0-1M0),advanced local disease group (T3-4N0-1M0),advanced nodal disease group (T1-2.2.3M0),and advanced locoregional disease group (T3-4N2.3M0).The 5-year overall survival (OS),local relapse-free survival (LRFS),and distant metastases-free survival (DMFS) were 83.0%,90.4%,and 84.0%,*** early disease group had the lowest treatment failure rate,with a 5-year OS of 95.6%.The advanced local disease group and advanced nodal disease group had similar failure pattern and treatment outcomes as well as similar hazard ratios for death (4.2.0 and 4.62.,respectively).The advanced locoregional disease group had the highest incidence of relapse and death,with a 5-year DMFS and OS of 62.3% and 62.2.,respectively,and a hazard ratio for death of *** with IMRT alone,IMRT in combination with chemotherapy provided no significant benefit to locoregionally advanced *** results suggest that the decision of treatment strategy for NPC patients should consider combinations of T and N stages,and that IMRT alone for early stage NPC patients can produce satisfactory ***,for advanced local,nodal,and locoregional disease groups,a combination of chemotherapy and radiotherapy is recommended.

Fabrication of YBCO superconducting thick films by electrophoresis has been widely reported. However, the value of critical current density (J c) is far from what the practical application requires. The superconducting thick films are obtained using top-seeded melt growth method with different proportional Y2.aCuO5 (Y2.1) addition. High-pressure oxygen has been used in the annealing process to improve the uniformity of the oxygen content in the superconducting thick films. When 40mol% Y2.1 powder is added to the YBa2.u3O7–5 (Y12.) powder,J c for the superconducting thick film by approaches described above reaches 7.008×103 A/cm2.(77 K, 0 T), which is greater than the value ever reported.

The hot ductility was measured for a series of steels containing Nb and/or Ti with Gleeble-3500 thermo-mechanical *** is found that the effect of austenitizing temperature on hot ductility of Nb-containing steel is *** the austenitizing temperature rises up,the shape of embrittling curve (SEC) from V-shape gradually changes to U-shape,and the range of embrittling temperature widens out and the embrittling degree *** SEC of Nb-containing steel is U-shaped and the embrittling temperature range is about 600-1050℃.The initial temperature of embrittlement on the right is nearly independent of carbon *** SEC of Ti-containing steel is N-shaped and two lowest points are at about 600℃ and the A-F transformation *** SEC of Nb-Ti-containing steel is basically the superposition of two shapes mentioned *** crack on straightening in continuous casting belongs to intergranular fracture,and the crack on rolling (crack expansion) belongs to transgranular fracture.

VERY little is known about the roles of microorganisms in the metallogeny of weathering crust REE deposits, although there has been much literature on REE behavior in weathering conditions. The present note deals with the microorganisms in 4 weathering profiles of an REE deposit and their roles in migration and accumulation of REE in weathering conditions. 1 Cultivation and identification of microorganisms Under strict sterilization, samples were collected from various parts of 4 weathering profiles of granites in a weathering crust REE deposit in South china. The samples were then cultivated for microorganisms with ordinary agars as culture media and then the cultivated microorganisms were dyed and identifiedunder a microscope. We have measured the Raman spectra and UV-Vis absorption spectra of linear polyene biomolecules(β-carotene and lycopene) in CS2.at low concentrations(10-6-10-10 mol/L).With decreasing concentration,all the carbon-carbon vibrations form a coherent mode in ordered β-carotene and lycopene due to extended π-conjugation that gives strong electron-phonon coupling,which leads to an anomalous experimental *** observed an extremely high Raman scattering cross section(RSCS) and the Raman activities in β-carotene and lycopene are characterized by intensive overtones and ***,the UV-Vis absorption bands become narrower.

This paper focuses on interpreting the different spatial relationships between NDVI and Ts, a triangular or a trapezoid, and on analyzing transformation conditions, the physical and ecological meanings of the vegetation index-surface temperature space as well. Further, we use the Tempera-ture-Vegetation Dryness Index (TVDI) to explain the existent meaning of a triangular space after NDVI reaches its saturated state by employing the relationships between NDVI, LAI and evapotranspiration. The specific relations between NDVI and Ts are useful for describing, validating and updating land surface models.

The Turpan-Hami and Santanghu basins are the late Paleozoic-Mesozoic-Cenozoicreworked intracontinental basins that superposed on the folded basement of the Paleozoic orogenicbelt. ^(40)Ar/^(39)Ar geochronological study of the basalts developed in the basins reveals that theformation period is Permain (2.3—2.6 Ma). From geochemical comparison of the basalts, theSantanghu basalts exhibit a strong depletion in Nb and Ta, and a selective enrichment in HFSE,reflecting that the source region is influenced by the subducted components related to subduction ofthe ancient oceanic crust and characterized with ''lagged arc volcanic rocks''. In contrast, theTurpan-Hami basalts show a slight depletion in Nb and Ta, high Th/Ta ratio, similar to the basaltsformed in an intracontinental ex-tensional zone or in an initial rift. Combined with the formationperiod of the ophiolite and ophiolite melange zones and regional magmatic activities occurring onthe post-orogenic extensional background in northern Xinjiang, it can be inferred from thesegeochemical characteristics that the tectonic background for forming the Turpan-Hami and Santanghubasins is closely related to the regional extension after the continent-continent collisionalorogeny. The basalts of the two basins came from different sources on the post-orogenic extensionalbackground of the similar basin-forming dynamics. Although the settings are all intracontinentalrift, the source for the Santanghu basalts is obviously subjected to the metasomatism of thesubducted components, implying the existence of the previous subduction.

Intercellular Adhension Molecule-1 in the Pathogenesis of Heroin-induced Acute Lung Injury in Rats

The expression of intercellular adhesion molecule-1 (ICAM-1) in the pathogenesis of heroin-induced acute lung injury (ALI) in rats was investigated. The model of ALI was established by intravenous injection of heroin into tail vein in rats. Thirty-six rats were randomly divided into heroin-treated groups (1 h, 2.h, 4 h, 6 h and 2. h) and normal control group. Changes in histopathologic morphology and biological markers of ALI were measured. The expression of ICAM-1 in lung tissue was detected by using immunohistochemistry and RT-PCR. The results showed that the W/D ratio and protein contents in BALF of the heroin-treated groups were significantly higher than that of the control group (P<0.01). The histopathological changes in the lung tissue were more obvious in heroin-treated groups. The ICAM-1 protein and mRNA expression in the lung tissue of heroin-treated groups were significantly increased as compared with that of the control group (P<0.01), and correlated with the ALI parameters in a time-dependent manner. Increasing of ICAM-1 expression was involved in the formation of heroin-induced lung injury. Furthermore, the level of expression was positively correlated with the severity of lung injury.

Bis （4-（4-amino-3, 5-diethylbenzyl）-2. 6-diethylphenylimino） acenaphthene] di- chloronickel （NiLCl2. was prepared and supported on SiO2.modified by methyl trichlorsilane（S-1） and on SiO2.MgCl2.TiCl4 （S-2. respectively. Two supported catalysts S-1 and S-2.used as catalysts for ethylene polymerization were studied and the influences of various polymerization conditions, including the polymerization temperature, cocatalysts, Al/Ni molar ratio on the catalytic activity, branching degree and branch length of PE were also investigated. The experimental results show that the supported catalysts exhibit higher catalytic activity for ethylene polymerization, the highest catalytic activity of S-1 using AlEt2.l as cocatalyst at 50 ℃, reaching 5.8×10^5gPE/molNi·h, and needed lower Al/Ni molar ratio compared to homogeneous analogue.
