Pitchers of the carnivorous plant Nepenthes have evolved specialized organs serving the purpose of attracting,capturing,retaining and digesting small animals,mostly *** consist of several well distinguishable zones,including a leaf-like lid,a collar-like peristome, a slippery zone and a digestive zone,differing in morphology,microstructure,chemical composition and physical *** zones display different functions,and the combined effects of several zones result in great trapping *** principal aim of this review is to introduce the structure and physiochemical properties of the pitcher surface,as well as the interaction between the pitcher surface and the insect attachment *** with our present study,the potential application of the pitcher surface being utilized in bionics to manufacture insect slippery trapping plates is discussed,and the original research direction of the pitcher surface and its application on agricultural pest control is highlighted.

Fractal Characteristics of Coal Pores Based on Classic Geometry and Thermodynamics Models

To better understand the characteristics of coal pores and their influence on coal reservoirs, coal pores in eight main coalfields of North china were analyzed by mercury porosimetry and scanning electron microscopy（SEM）.Fractal characteristics of coal pores（size distribution and structure） were researched using two fractal models:classic geometry and *** two models establish the relationship between fractal dimensions and coal pores *** results include:（1） SEM imaging and fractal analysis show that coal reservoirs generally have very high heterogeneity;（2） coal pore structures have fractal characteristics and fractal dimensions characteristic of pore structures are controlled by the composition（e.g.,ash,moisture,volatile component） and pore parameters（e.g.,pore diameter,micro pores content） of coals;（3） the fractal dimensions（D;and D;） of coal pores have good correlations with the heterogeneity of coal pore *** fractal dimensions correlate to higher heterogeneity of pore *** fractal dimensions（D;and D;） have strong negative linear correlations with the sorted coefficient of coals （R;=0.719 and 0.639,respectively） that shows the heterogeneity of coal pores;（4） fractal dimension D;and petrologic permeability of coals have a strong negative exponential correlation（R;=0.82）.However, fractal dimension D;and petrologic permeability of coals have no obvious correlation;and（5） the model of classic geometry is more accurate for fractal characterization of coal pores in coal reservoirs than that of thermodynamics by optimization.

Based on the phase diagrams, measured activities and the annexationprinciple, calculating models of mass action concentrations for In-Bi-Cu and In-Sb-Cu melts havebeen formulated. Calculated results not only agree well with practical values, but also obey themass action law, showing that the deduced model can reflect the structural reality of given meltasand that the annexation principles is applicable to these tow ternary metallic melts. So long asthere is one from three binary systems constituting the ternary melts, in which the activities ofone component exhibit positive deviation relative to Raoultian behavior, heterogeous meltsinevitably would form, so heterogeneous calculating model should be used to calculate their massaction concentrations. On the contrary, if all the binary melts are homogeneous and their activitiesexhibit negative deviation with respect to the Raoult's law, then the ternary melts formed fromthem will certainly be homogeneous, hence single phase model should be applied.

This paper mainly studies the model matching problem of multiple-output-delay systems in which the reference model is assigned to a diagonal transfer function matrix.A new model matching controller structure is first developed,and then,it is shown that the controller is feasible if and only if the sets of Diophantine equations have common *** obtained controller allows a parametric representation,which shows that an adaptive scheme can be used to tolerate parameter variations in the *** resulting adaptive law can guarantee the global stability of the closed-loop systems and the convergence of the output error.

Our previous study shows that the hovering and forward flight of a bumblebee do not have inherent stability （passive stability）. But the bumblebees are observed to fly stably. Stabilization control must have been applied. In this study, we investigate the longitudinal stabilization control of the bumblebee. The method of computational fluid dynamics is used to compute the control derivatives and the techniques of eigenvalue and eigenvector analysis and modal decomposition are used for solving the equations of motion. Controllability analysis shows that at all flight speeds considered, although inherently unstable, the flight is controllable. By feedbacking the state variables, i.e. vertical and horizontal velocities, pitching rate and pitch angle （which can be measured by the sensory system of the insect）, to produce changes in stroke angle and angle of attack of the wings, the flight can be stabilized, explaining why the bumblebees can fly stably even if they are passively unstable.

The Ediacaran period is characterized by the extremely negative carbon isotope anomalies and great biotic evolution in Earth history. At least four negative carbon isotope anomalies have been reported from this interval in South china so far. It is traditionally argued that the isotope variations can be used as a useful tool for global correlation of Ediacaran succession; however, more and more researches argued against this idea. We reviewed the previously published carbon isotope data in South china, and distributed the mean values of a certain time to the paleogeographic maps. The results show that the carbon isotope values (δ13C) vary greatly in different environments, but a clear tendency of becoming lighter from shallow platform to deep basin, with a maximum variation up to 1‰ Moreover, the important changes in Ediacaran biota, marked by the introducing of new taxa or ecologic groups, seemed to always postdate the negative anomalies but coincide with the positive shift. If the negative excursions represented the oxidation of a large dissolved organic carbon (DOC) reservoir in the ocean, the diverse Ediacaran organisms and the carbon isotope anomalies may suggest totally different environments: oxic and anoxic/euxinic. We also suggest that the elimination of euxinic state through precipitation of pyrites is one of the important environment factors in prompting the Ediacaran bio-evolution.

In distributed simulation, there is no uniform physical clock. And delay cannot be estimated because of jitter. So simulation time synchronization is essential for the event consistency among nodes. This paper investigates time synchronization algorithms over large-scale distributed nodes, analyzes LBTS （lower bound time stamp） computation model described in IEEE HLA standard, and then presents a grouped LBTS model. In fact, there is a default premise for existing algorithms that controi packets must be delivered via reliable transportation. Although, a theorem of time synchronization message＇s reliability is proposed, which proves that only those control messages that constrain time advance need reliability. It breaks out the default premise for reliability. Then multicast is introduced into the transmis- sion of control messages, and algorithm MCTS （multi-node coordination time synchronization） is proposed based on multicast. MCTS not only promotes the time advance efficiency, but also reduces the occupied network bandwidth. Experiment results demonstrate that the algorithm is better than others in both time advance speed and occupied network bandwidth. Its time advance speed is about 50 times per second when there are 1000 nodes, approximately equal to that of similar systems when there are 100 nodes.

Based on the microstructures of steel, a thermo-elasto-plastic stress model of continuously casting billets is established to study hailal solidifying process in molds. Results show that peritectic phase transformation contributes greatly to the irregular shrinkage ofinitial shell, which makes the billets vulnerable to surface defects.

The guidelines for assessing the apparent activation energies of gas/solidreactions have been proposed based on the experimental results from literatures. In CO_2 free inletgas flow, CaCO_3 decomposition between 950 and 1250 K with thin sample layer could be controlled bythe interfacial chemical reaction with apparent activation energy E = (215+-10) KJ/mol and E=(200+-10) kJ/mol at T = 813 to 1020 K, respectively. With relatively thick sample layer between 793and 1273 K, the CaCO_3 decomposition could be controlled by one or more steps involvingself-cooling, nucleation, intrinsic diffusion and heat transfer of gases, and E could vary between147 and 190 kJ/mol. In CO_2 containing inlet gas flow (5 percent-100 percent of CO_2), E wasdetermined to be varied from 949 to 2897 kJ/mol. For SrCO_3 and BaCO_3 decompositions controlled bythe interfacial chemical reaction, E was (213+-15) kJ/mol (1000-1350K) and (305+-15) kJ/mol(1260-1400 K), respectively

Based on the phase diagrams and the coexistence theory of metallic melts structure involving compound formation, the cal- culating models of mass action concentrations for Mn-P and Fe-Mn-P melts have been formulated. The calculated mass action concen- trations agree well with the corresponding measured activities, this in turn shows that the deduced models can reflect the structural char- acteristics of the melts concerned and there isn't any saturation of phosphorus in both melts.
