Hydrodynamic and water quality model for tidal river network is set up withMIKE11 modeling system, according to the features of tidal river networks in plain area. The modelwas calibrated using the hydrological and water quality data of 1999, and the results show that thesimulated values agree with the measured data very well. This model is used to numerically analyzethe effects of low flow augmentation on hydrodynamic and water quality conditions of Suzhou *** simulation results show that the flow augmentation can increase net discharge of Suzhou Creekand improve its ability of re-aeration; and its concentration of dissolved oxygen in the rivernetworks can also increase correspondingly.

The photocatalytic degradation of Rhodamine B （RhB） was carried out using TiO2.supported on activated carbon （TiO2.AC） under microwave irradiation. Composite catalyst TiO2.AC was prepared and characterized using X-ray diffraction （XRD）, transmission electron microscopy （TEM） and Brunauer-Emmett-Teller （BET）. In the process of microwave-enhanced photocatalysis （MPC）, RhB （30 mg/L） was almost completely decoloured in 10 min, and the mineralization efficiency was 96.0% in 2. min. The reaction rate constant of RhB in MPC using TiO2.AC by pseudo first-order reaction kinetics was 4.16 times of that using Degussa P2.. Additionally, according to gas chromatography/mass spectrometry （GC/MS） and liquid chromatography/mass spectrometry （LC/MS） identification, the major intermediates of RhB in MPC included two kinds of N-de-ethylation intermediates （N,N-diethyl-N＇-ethyl-rhodamine （DER））, oxalic acid, malonic acid, snccinic acid, and phthalic acid, maleic acid, 3-nitrobenzoic acid, and so on. The degradation of RhB in MPC was mainly attributed to the destruction of the conjugated structure, and then the intermediates transformed to acid molecules which were mineralized to water and carbon dioxide.

According to the experimental data of the orifice discharge coefficient for the flow through a vertical sharp-edged orifice obtained in the previous study of this work,a theoretical criterion for flow mechanisms of small orifice（***-walled orifice and nozzle） and large orifice（***-walled orifice） was proposed based on the ratio of orifice diameter to plate *** can help explain the dissipation of the mechanical energy loss in the flow process for the two flow mechanisms under different operating *** main parameters such as orifice diameter,plate thickness and liquid head were correlated,and a semi-empirical model for orifice coefficient and an empirical model with high precision at the stable region were developed.

Refractory dissolved organic matter （DOM） from landfill leachate treatment plant was with high dissolved organic carbon （DOC） content. An aminated polymeric adsorbent NDA-8 with tertiary amino groups and sufficient mesopore was synthesized, which exhibited high adsorption capacity to the DOM （raw water after coagulation）. Resin NDA-8 performed better in the uptake of the DOM than resin DAX-8 and A100. Electrostatic attraction was considered as the decisive interaction between the adsorbent and adsorbate. Special attention was paid to the correlation between porous structure and adsorption capacity. The mesopore of NDA-8 played a crucial role during uptake of the DOM. In general, resin in chloride form performed a higher removal rate of DOC. According to the colunm adsorption test, total adsorption capacity of NDA-8 was calculated to 52.2. mg DOC/mL wet resin. 0.2.mol/L sodium hydroxide solution could regenerate the adsorbent efficiently.

Restudy on morphology of Oryctocephalus indicus (Reed, 1910), based on specimens from Guizhou, china and Nevada USA, suggests that the subspecies regarded previously as Oryctocephalus indicus indicus (Reed, 1910), O. indicus latus Zhao et Yuan 2.02. and O. indicus kobayashi Saito, 1934, are synonymous, and Oryctocephalus americanus Sundberg et McCollum, 2.03 is a similar form of O. indicus. Oryctocephalus indicus is rediagnosed as having a glabella that is subconical in outline and tapering forward slightly; a thorax that comprises 12.segments, and a small pygidium that bears 2.3 axial rings with a terminal piece and a postaxial ridge. Oryctocephalus indicus is widely distributed in eastern Guizhou and ranges through a great interval of Kaili Formation. Its first appearance is almost identical with these events of trilobite extinction-recovery occurring at the end of the Early Cambrian, the alternation of acritach assemblages, the change of trace elements (REE) and stable isotopes (carbon) at the Wuliu-Zengjiaya section. As one of the key forms for defining the traditional Lower-Middle Cambrian boundary (the base of Cambrian Series 3 and Stage 5 in the new Cambrian chronstratigraphic standard), O. indicus has received detailed study and has more advantages than other species such as Ovatoryctocara granulata Tchernysheva, 1962.or Arthricocephalus chauveaui Bergeron, 1899.

Aquatic vegetation affects sediment suspension and nutrient release by changing the flow structure. Experiments on the influence of submerged vegetation on flow structure, sediment suspension, and NH4-N release were carried in a flume with natural submerged vegetation. Turbulence characteristics in the vegetation section were measured using a three-dimensional acoustic Doppler velocimeter. The effects of submerged vegetation on bed shear stress （ τb ）, sediment suspension, and NH4-N release were analyzed. Results show that with vegetation, bed shear stress is reduced by about 2.% - 80%, which, in turn, reduces sediment suspension. The impact of submerged vegetation on sediment suspension and NH4-N release should be considered along with flow intensity. When the flow Reynolds number is relatively small, the submerged vegetation is quite capable of inhibiting sediment suspension and reducing NH4-N release, but when the Reynolds number reaches a certain value, the presence of aquatic plants exacerbates sediment suspension and promotes NH4-N release. Results also reveal that a highly significant positive correlation exists between NH4-N concentration and water turbidity in both vegetated and non-vegetated channels.

The effect of high-strength ammonia nitrogen acclimation on sludge activity in sequencing batch reactor （SBR） was investigated. Two batch experiments, RUN1 and RUN2. were conducted with the influent ammonia nitrogen concentrations 60 and 500 mg/L, respectively. The sludges inoculated from RUN1 and RUN2.were used to treat a series of influent with ammonia nitrogen concentrations of 59, 2.2. 368, 604 and 1152.mg/L. It is found that the activated sludge acclimated to higher ammonia nitrogen concentrations revealed higher COD and NH 4 ＋ -N removal efficiencies, and slower DHA decrease. The results confirmed that the activities of the bacteria in activated sludge in SBR were inhibited by high-strength ammonia nitrogen, whereas the activated sludge acclimated to high-strength ammonia nitrogen showed substantial resistance to inhibition by influents containing high levels of ammonia nitrogen.

In this study, a series of acrylic ester resins with different pore size distribution were prepared successfully by varying the type and the amount of pore-forming agents. In order to inves-tigate the adsorption behavior and mechanism of surfactants on acrylic ester resins, three kinds of surfactants were utilized as adsorbates that were sodium 6-dodecyl benzenesulfonate (6-NaDBS), sodium 1-dodecyl benzene sulfonate (1-NaDBS) and sodium 1-dodecyl sulfonate, respectively. It was observed that the surface area was available in a particular pore size and an appropriate pore size of resins appeared to be more important for the adsorption of surfactants. As compared to commercial acrylic ester resins XAD-7 and HP2.G, 50# and 38# resins exhibited more excellent adsorption properties toward 1-NaDBS and 6-NaDBS. The experimental equilibrium data were fitted to the Langmuir, and double-Langmuir models. Two models provided very good fittings for all resins over the temperature range studied. The investigation indicated that electrostatic attraction and hydrogen bond between resins and surfactants were the main forces and had an obvious effect on adsorption proc-ess.
