In this paper, cut marks on the long bones of class Ⅱ sized animals in the Ma'anshann site are studied. Based on the location and frequencies of the long bone cut marks, the distribution characteristics are analyzed as follows: (1) cut mark frequencies in the lower layer (LL) are much higher than those of the upper; (2. in the LL cut mark frequency of the upper limbs is the highest, and that of the middle and lower limbs is lower and the lowest; (3) In the upper layer (UL) the cut mark frequency, does not spread as orderly as in the LL. The data are compared to those of the experiment and it is demonstrated that values of the LL all fall into the experimental 95% confidence intervals, and the cut mark frequencies of the upper, middle and lower limbs coincide with those of the experiment; while the values of the UL are much lower, of which, those of the humerus, femur and radius are out of the intervals, and the frequencies of the upper, middle and lower limbs are far more different from those of the experiment. It implies that the earlier hominids (of the LL) defleshed the limbs of the class Ⅱ sized animals with stone tools more completely than the later hominids. With the evidence of burning marks, it is suggested that the difference on the roasting behaviors derived the cut mark difference of the Ma'anshan UL and LL.

A fossil with Gnetum affinity was found in the Jianshangou Member(Barremian Age) of the Yixian Formation(Lower Cretaceous Epoch) of the Jehol Group in western Liaoning,northeastern *** single fossil specimen is represented by both elongate-cylindrical male spike strobiles which borne within a nodal bract of cauliflorous *** spike strobiles have apparent nodes,invisible internodes,and numerous verticillate involucral *** microsporangiate units within involucral collars are not *** male spike strobiles with verticillate involucral collars occur exclusively in Gnetum;hence,the fossil strobiles are attributed to a new taxon,Khitania columnispicata gen.& ***.,being closely related to *** general isotopic dating suggests an age of Barremian,ca.12.-12. million years(Myr) ago for the Jianshangou *** palaeoecological and palaeoclimatic inference based on the compositions of flora and fauna,and lithological characters of the fossil locality suggests that the fossil plants grew in a subtropical mesophytic forest and under a warmer *** remains of male spike strobiles are the first record of gnetalean *** documents the evolution of the distinct gnetoid morphology and indicates a wider range of distribution of Gnetaceae in the Early Cretaceous than present day.

To investigate the organic carbon isotope excursions in the non-marine Permian-Triassic boundary sequences and correlate this with that in the marine sequences, 12. samples were determined for the carbon ratios (δ13Corg) of kerogen samples spanning 102.meters from the Guodikeng formation to the Lower Triassic Jiucaiyuan formation in the southern limb of Dalongkou Anticline (SDA) and Taoshuyuan sections of Xinjiang, china. Associated fossil assemblages suggested the P-T boundary is in the middle part of Guodikeng formation (proposed P-T boundary at A, B or C in figure below), and provided significantly biostratigraphic overlaps during the Permian-Triassic transition.

Periodicity of Retzius lines is a key factor in dental development. In this study, we examined the periodicity of Retzius lines in fossil Pongo from South china using polarized light microscope observation of dental ground sections. The periodicities all of the 15 teeth were 9 d. Comparisons of periodicity were made with extant primates, fossil apes and hominins. Periodicity of fossil Pongo from South china was relatively long but fell within the variation of extant Pongo, Gorilla and modern human, and longer than periodicity of Pan and other extant primates. Fossil Pongo from South china was similar to Lufengpithecus and Sivapithecus, shorter than Gigantopithecus and longer than European and African fossil apes and most early hominins in periodicity. Generally, the periodicities of Asian large-body fossil apes were longer than the periodicities of European and African large-body fossil apes in Miocene. Difference among species and trend of evolution in periodicity were analyzed and discussed. We found that periodicity might gradually increase from Proconsul in early Miocene to several fossil apes in Miocene and then Gigantopithecus in Pleistocene. In addition, this study made correlate analysis between periodicity and body mass respectively in males and females of six extant apes and five fossil apes, and found that periodicity positively correlated with body mass.

Based the distribution and morphological analyses of the archaeocyathan, four evolutionary stages of archaeocyaths can be recognised on the Yangtze Platform, corresponding to the middle and late Qiongzhusian, early Canglangpuan, middle Canglangpuan, and late Canglangpuan. In general, archaeocyaths displayed the following evolutionary trends: 1) outer wall gradually became complicated, e.g. a simple wall evolved into a concentrically porous one, and then into a compound one;2. the percentage of archaeocyaths with colony growth gradually increased;3) the archaeocyath septa gradually became sparsely porous and aporous;and 4) the inner wall gradually became complicated, as the inner wall pores became smaller, and some inner walls developed microporous sheaths.

A new cycad,Leptocycas yangcaogouensis ***.,was found in sediments from the Late Triassic in western Liaoning,*** pinnately compound leaves(Pseudoctenis type)are screwed in a crown on the stem *** leaflets are linear,with parallel veins and decurrent bases on the *** leaf bases are *** cataphylls intermix with the *** female cone is ovoid in *** characteristics of the new plant are more similar to those of Leptocycas gracilis,a Triassic cycad from North America,but the new species differs from *** in the size of its stem(7–8 vs.3–5 cm in diameter,respectively),leaves(length×width 100×16 vs.30×7 cm,respectively)and leaf density along the stem(4–6 vs.1–2.bases/1 cm length,respectively).Both *** and ***,having leaves of the Pseudoctenis type,show a closer relationship to the extant Dioon of *** present study provides evidence for the origin of the genus Dioon,which may have come from Leptocycas plants of the *** would be assumed that the extent cycads in Zamiaceae originate from the pteridosperms in the Late Paleozoic and have evolved through the stage of *** and *** in Late Triassic,and reaching the extant Dioon.
