PDA MEASUREMENTS OF TWO-PHASE FLOW STRUCTURE AND PARTICLE DISPERSION FOR A PARTICLE-LADEN JET IN CROSSFLOW

The two-phase flow structure and particle dispersion for a dilute particle-laden jet in crossflow （JICF） were experimentally investigated by means of Phase Doppler Anemometry （PDA） measurement. The two-phase flow experiments were conducted for different flow conditions and solid particle parameters, including the ratio of the jet velocity to crossflow velocity, the particle size and mass loading. The experimental results indicate that the fine particles with the size of 70 micron and the mass loading of 0.05% have a minor influence on the mean and fluctuation velocity fields of the two-phase JICF. However, the fine particle transport by the two-phase JICF is dominantly and preferentially affected by the shear layer vortices and exhibits a somewhat enhanced dispersion as compared to the fluid. For the coarse particles with the particle size ranging from 300 micron to 700 micron and the mass loading less than 0.16%, the effect of the particle parameters on the fluid phase is associated with both the anisotropic properties of the flow field and the trajectory deviation of the settling particles from the fluid. Compared to the single-phase JICF, the two-phase JICF laden with the coarse particles is recognized to possess more pronounced mean velocity alteration and turbulence modulation of the fluid phase in the presence of the particles with the larger particle size and higher mass loading.

Human leukocyte antigen-G (HLA-G) has long been speculated as a beneficial factor for a successful pregnancy for its restricted expression on fetal-maternal extravillous cytotrophoblasts and its capability of modulating uterine natural killer cell (uNK) function such as cytotoxicity and cytokine production through NK cell receptors. HLA class I α1 domain is an important killer cell Ig-like receptor (KIR) recognition site and the Met76 and Gln79 are unique to HLA-G in this region. NK cell receptor KIR2.L4 is a specific receptor for HLA-G, yet the recognition site on HLA-G remains unknown. In this study, retroviral transduction was applied to express the wild type HLA-G (HLA-wtG), mutant HLA-G (HLA-mG) on the chronic myelogenous leukemia cell line K562.cells and KIR2.L4 molecule on NK-92.cells, respectively. KIR2.L4-IgG Fc fusion protein was generated to determine the binding specificity between KIR2.L4 and HLA-G. Our results showed that residue Met76, Gln79 mutated to Ala76,79 in the α1 domain of HLA-G protein could affect the binding affinity between KIR2.L4 and HLA-G, meanwhile, the KIR2.L4 transfected NK-92.cells (NK-92. 2.L4) showed a considerably different cytolysis ability against the HLA-wtG and HLA-mG transfected K562.targets. Taken together, our data indicated that residue Met76 and Gln79 in HLA-G α1 domain plays a critical role in the recogni- tion of KIR2.L4, which could be an explanation for the isoforms of HLA-G, all containing the α1 domain, with the potential to regulate NK functions.

The photo-physical and photo-chemical properties of melatonin (ML) werestudied by 2.6 nm laser flash photolysis (LFP). ML undergoes photo-ionization to produce radicalcation of ML (ML^(·+))and hydrated electrons (e_(aq)^-), while excited triplet state ~3ML~* is alsoformed during photolysis. The oxidation via one electron transfer from ML to SO_4^(·+) and thetriplet state of riboflavin (~3RF~*) has been also investigated and the rate constants for theprocess have been determined to be 8.0x10^9 and 1.4x10^9 L·mol^(-1)·s^(-1) respectively. Theradical cation of 2.2.'-azinobis(3-ethylbenzothiazoline-6-sulfonic acid)(ABTS^(·+)) scavengingcapacities of melatonin and other antioxidants are compared in this paper.

The 12.O (J=1-0), 13CO (J=1-0) and C18O (J=1-0) emissions in 9 massive star forming regions, which are believed to be at different stages of massive star formation, were mapped with the 13.7 m millimeter wave telescope at Qinghai Station of Purple Mountain Observatory. Of the observed 9 sources, 13CO cores were detected in seven of them, and C18O cores in five of them. And only two sources associated with C18O cores and H2. masers showed the extended structures and strong outflows. This is the first detection of outflow associated with IRAS 2.566+582. in the observing field of S152.S153. The physical parameters of cores and outflows for these sources, derived from Local Thermal Equilibrium (LTE) analysis, are presented. These observing results suggest that the C18O cores will only appear when the gas density is high enough and the probability to have an outflow is very high when the clumps show the C18O and H2. maser simulta- neously.

There are different approaches for the hadronic B decay calculations, recently. In this paper, we upgrade three of them, namely factorization, QCD factorization and the perturbative QCD approach based on kT factorization, using new parameters and full wave functions. Although they get similar results for many of the branching ratios, the direct CP asymmetries predicted by them are different, which can be tested by recent experimental measurements of B factories.

The longitudinal dispersion characteristics of tidal rivers areexperimentally investigated in a water channel. The longitudinal dispersion features and influentialfactors on pollutant in various stages of a tidal period in natural rivers are studied; the valueranges and variation trends of the longitudinal dispersion coefficient are obtained by means ofconcentration measurement. The results can provide important parameters for establishing the waterquality mathematical models in tidal rivers.

A novel single-Gaussian-beam magneto-optical trap with a lens and spherical mirror is proposed. Our analysis and calculations show that it can trap as many as 10-6 atoms with a temperature of ～330 μK. Because of its extraordinary simplicity and much efficaciousness, the proposed single-beam trapping scheme will have many applications in the experiments of atom optics with cold and dense atoms.

An integral equation describing riding waves, i. e. , small-scaleperturbation waves superposed on unperturbed surface waves, in shallow water of finite depth wasstudied via explicit Hamiltonian formulation, and the water was regarded as ideal incompressiblefluid of uniform density. The kinetic energy, density of the perturbed fluid motion was formulatedwith Hamiltonian canonical variables, elevation of the free surface and the velocity potential atthe free surface. Then the variables were expanded to the first order at the free surface ofunperturbed waves. An integal equation for velocity potential of perturbed waves on the unperturbedfree surface was derived by conformal mapping and the Fourier transformation. The integral equationcould replace the Hamiltonian canonical equations which are difficult to solve. An explicitexpression of Lagrangian density function could be obtained by solving the integral equation. Themethod used in this paper provides a new path to study the Hamiltonian formulation of riding wavesand wave interaction problems.
