Despite the attention being given to and the knowledge of the benefits of evaluating frequency-lowering algorithms for hearing-impaired people, the causality between these algorithms and their benefits is still not clear. This is aggravated by the fact that comparative research on the methodologies and skills required for fitting an appropriate algorithm to individual patients is lacking. Against this back-drop, the current study has attempted to make progress in this area. In this experiment, six experienced traditional hearing-aid users with severe impairments in the high frequencies were fitted with two different frequency-lowering methods, and weekly hearing tests were conducted to track the benefits of such methods. After the experiment, five of the listeners accepted the frequency-lowering algorithms. Both methods showed superior results when compared with the listeners’ own hearing aids in most of the tests, and the segmented compression algorithm was indicated to have better "anti-noise" quality and speech intelligibility improvement capabilities. A preference for the application of proportional compression to unvoiced speech was also found in this algorithm. Unlike in previous studies, all speech materials here are recorded in Chinese. Therefore, the results could also be used to evaluate the benefits of frequency-lowering to the intelligibility of Chinese speech for patients. As a result, an improvement was found, especially in the recognition of consonants. Moreover, no adverse effect was found in intonation recognition.

Stilbene glycoside(TSG)has been shown to have many beneficial *** is therefore essential to understand the absorption and metabolism of TSG in *** determined the recovery of TSG and its metabolites(TSG sulfate/glucuronides)in rat gastric contents,gastric mucosa,portal vein plasma,celiac arterial plasma,bile,and urine after administration of 15 mg of TSG in 0.5 mL physiological saline or incubation for 20 min in situ in the stomach of *** 20 min,(64.0±9.8)% of the administered TSG disappeared from the stomach;later,TSG was recovered in both free and conjugated forms in plasma and bile,but not in *** the other hand,only free TSG was detected in the gastric contents and mucosa;it was also detected in the portal vein plasma as(48.1±3.5)% of the total TSG(all forms of TSG).However,the proportion of free TSG in the celiac arterial plasma and bile decreased to 4%-10%.In addition,the proportion of free TSG to total TSG in the liver microsome incubation mixture after TSG was incubated in liver microsome at 3. ℃ for 3. min was very low [(10.6 ± 2.6)%].These results indicate that TSG could be quickly absorbed from the rat stomach,conjugated in liver and excreted in *** novel information would be helpful for the use of TSG as a beneficial natural product which may improve its proposed efficacy in preventing chronic diseases.

＜正＞Objective To investigate the long-term neurotoxic effect of inflammation induced by intracerebroventricular injection of lipopolysaccharide（LPS） on dopaminergic（DA） neurons in substantia nigra of rats and to explore the role of asctrocytes in the process of long-term degeneration of dopaminergic *** Altogether 60 healthy male SD rats were assigned into LPS group or saline control group *** injections were made intracerebroventricularly on right side of the rats with LPS 20uL（1.25 Hg/μL） or saline 20μ*** software was used to measure the movement distance of rats for 3. min at 4,6,8,12,16,20 and 24 weeks after LPS or saline *** changes of the substantia nigra dopaminergic neurons were studied by using tyrosine-hydroxylase（TH） immunohistochemical *** antibody glial fibrillary acid protein（GFAP） was used by immunohistochemistry to detect the changes of astrocytes in the substantia nigra of *** blot was performed to detect GFAP expression in rat substantia nigra and corpus ***（1） Analysis of movement distance showed that LPS-injected rats moved less than saline control group. At 16,20,24 weeks post injection,movement distance of LPS-treated rats decreased by 21.1%（P＜0.05）,27.9%（P＜0.01）, 27.0%（P＜0.01） compared with those of saline-treated rats respectively.（2） The number of TH-positive neurons in the substantia nigra of LPS-injected rats decreased gradually after LPS *** decreased by 24.6%compared with those of saline-injected group at 24 weeks（P＜0.01）.（3. Objective To investigate the histological changes of rapid tooth movement in dogs treated by resistance reduction and distraction osteogenesis,aiming to establish an animal model and further to reveal the remodeling mechanism of rapid tooth movement. Methods A total of 8 local hybrid dogs were selected as subjects for this study. The second pre-molar was extracted on both sides. The experimental side underwent alvelor surgery for resistance reduction and a home-made tooth-borne intraoral distraction device was installed for rapid tooth movement,while for the other side (control side) only tooth-borne intraoral distraction device was used for rapid tooth movement. The longest active force-delivery span was 2 weeks,followed by 6-week retention. The distance between the moved tooth and anchor unit was recorded weekly,and radiography was performed for each side before and after distraction. The surrounding tissues including periodontal ligament and alveolar bone were sectioned for histological analysis. Results The average distance of tooth movement was 3.55mm on the experimental side and 1.11mm on the control side. The rate of tooth movement was notably higher (P<0.01) and no significant apical root resorption was detected by X-ray on the experimental side. The active alvelor bone remodeling was found on the tension and pressure sides. However,there was no significant difference between the experimental side and the control side after the retention period. Conclusion The rate of orthodontic tooth movement can be accelerated through resistance reduction and periodontal distraction without any unfavorable effects but at minimal anchorage loss.

AIM: To study the protective effect of aspirin on damages of the endothelium induced by low-density lipoprotein (LDL), and whether the protective effect of aspirin is related to reduction of nitric oxide synthase inhibitor level. METHODS: Vascular endothelial injury was induced by a single injection of native LDL (4 mg/kg) in rats. Vasodi- lator responses to acetylcholine (ACh) in the isolated aortic rings were determined, and serum concentrations of asymmetric dimethylarginine (ADMA), malondialdehyde (MDA), tumour necrosis factor-α (TNF-α), and the ac- tivity of dimethylaminohydrolase (DDAH) were measured. RESULTS: A single injection of LDL (4 mg/kg) significantly decreased vasodilator responses to ACh, increased the serum level of ADMA, MDA, and TNF-α, and decreased DDAH activity. Aspirin (3. or 100 mg/kg) markedly reduced the inhibition of vasodilator responses to ACh by LDL, and the protective effect of aspirin at the lower dose was greater compared with high-dose aspirin group. Aspirin inhibited the increased level of MDA and TNF-α induced by LDL. Aspirin at the dose of 3. mg/kg, but not at higher dose (100 mg/kg), significantly reduced the concentration of ADMA and increased the activity of DDAH. CONCLUSION: Aspirin at the lower dose (3. mg/kg) protects the endothelium against damages elicited by LDL in vivo, and the protective effect of aspirin on endothelium is related to reduction of ADMA concentration by increasing DDAH activity.

AIM: To observe the oral anti-platelet efficacy and the potential action mechanism of polyaspartoyl L-arginine (PDR), a new L-arginine rich compound. METHODS: Platelet aggregation was conducted by Born’s method; bleeding time was determined using tail’s bleeding time in mice; platelet adhesion was carried out with glass bottle method; nitric oxide (NO) was tested with Griess’ method; and cAMP, thromboxane B2 (TXB2) and 6-keto-PGF1α were assessed with commercial kits. RESULTS: The inhibition by PDR (15-60 mg/kg ig or 10 mg/kg iv) of platelet aggregation induced by adenosine diphosphate (ADP), collagen or thrombin at 1 h after oral administration or at 20 min after iv injection for rats (P3. mg/kg) increased NO concentration in plasma. On the other hand PDR did not change the contents of cAMP in platelet and TXB2 or 6-keto-PGF1α in plasma. CONCLUSION: PDR is a novel, oral effective platelet aggregation inhibitor and its action mechanism possibly related to increasing NO generation.
