A zeolite designated as ZK-4 was synthesized hydrothermally in the system (TMA)2ONa2O-Al2O3- SiO2- H2O at 80 - 100℃ with tetramethylammonium hydroxide as an organic templating agent. The pure zeolite ZK-4 could be prepared by using the mother liquor obtained after filtration as the source of templating agent. The effect of some synthetic conditions such as the amount of tetramethylammonium hydroxide used, n [ (TMA)2O + Na2O] /n (Al2O3) ratio, n (SiO2)/n(Al2O3) ratio and crystallization time, etc. on the crystalline phase of the product was investigated. When the following molar ratios of the reaction mixture, n (SiO2)/n (Al2O3) 4-10, n[(TMA)2O+Na2O]/ n (Al2O3 ) > 7, n (Na2O)/n (Al2O3)=0. 5-2. 0, n (H2O)/ n(A12O3)=80-450, were used, pure zeolite ZK-4 could be obtained. The synthetic products were characterized by X-ray powder diffraction, atomic absorption spectrophotometry (AAS), adsorption measurement, thermogravimetric analysis(TGA), and 29Si magic angle spinning nuclear magnetic resonance technique. Zeolite ZK-4 has a higher thermal stability than sodium zeolite A due to higher n(Si)/n(Al) ratio of zeolite ZK-4.

The focus of almost all the association studies of candidate genes is to test for their importance. We recently developed a LOD score approach that can be used to test against the importance of candidate genes for complex diseases and quantitative traits in random samples. As a complementary method to regular association analyses, our LOD score approach is powerful but still affected by the population admixture, though it is more conservative. To control the confounding effect of population heterogeneity, we develop here a LOD score exclusion analysis using case-parents design, the basic design of the transmission disequilibrium test (TDT) approach that is immune to population admixture. In the analysis, specific genetic effects and inheritance models at candidate genes can be analyzed and if a LOD score is ≤ - 2. 0, the locus can be excluded from having an effect larger than that specified. Simulations show that this approach has reasonable power to exclude a candidate gene having small genetic effects if it is not a disease susceptibility locus (DSL) with sample size often employed in TDT studies. Similar to association analyses with the TDT in nuclear families, our exclusion analyses are generally not affected by population admixture. The exclusion analyses may be implemented to rule out candidate genes with no or minor genetic effects as supplemental analyses for the TDT. The utility of the approach is illustrated with an application to test the importance of vitamin D receptor (VDr) gene underlying the differential risk to osteoporosis.

Osteoporosis is a major public health problem for old *** factors are considered tobe major contributors to the pathogenesis of postmenopausal *** vitamin D receptor(VDr)gene is a prominent candidate gene for the regulation of postmenopausal bone mass;however,despite exten-sive studies,controversy remains regarding its association with postmenopausal body mineral density(BMD)*** this study,a total of 260 healthy postmenopausal Chinese women were genotyped at the VDrApaI locus using polymerase chain reaction(pCr)-restriction fragment length polymorphism (rFLp).rawhip BMD was significantly associated with VDr ApaI polymorphism with and without adjusting for age(p=0.015 and 0.040,respectively).This genetic effect can explain 3.32% of hip BMD ***,the significant association vanished after correcting for both age and body mass index(BMI)(p=0.169).Inaddition,we observed a significant association between VDr ApaI polymorphism with unadjusted BMI(p=0.042)or BMI adjusted for age(p=0.049).The raw hip BMD was also found to be significantly corre-lated with BMI(r=0.517,p=0.0001),with BMI explaining 26.35% of the variation of hip *** of thesefacts prompt us to conclude that the significant association between the VDr ApaI genotype and hip BMDmay be modified by BMI in postmenopausal Chinese *** findings may partially explain the earlierinconsistent association results concerning the VDr gene and BMD,and highlight the importance of incorpo-rating covariates such as BMI into osteoporosis association studies.

Acorus tatarinowii Schott is a traditional Chinese medicine plant and has multiple bioactivities in medicine and pesticide field. In this study, the antifungal compound 1,2-dimethoxy-4（2-propenyl） benzene was isolated from A. tatarinowii Schott by activity-directed isolation method, and the inhibitory activity of the extract and 1,2-dimethoxy-4（2-propenyl） benzene against seven plant pathogenic fungi was evaluated. The results showed that the extract and 1,2-dimethoxy-4（2- propenyl） benzene had high inhibitory activity against hyphal growth of Thielaviopsis paradoxa （de Seynes） V. Hohnel, pestalotia mangiferae p. Henn., Fusarium oxysporum f. sp. niveum （E. F. Smith） Syn. et Hans., Alternaria alternate Tanaka, Colletotrichum musae （Berk et Curt） V. Arx, Sphaceloma fawcettii Jenk., and Mycosphaerella sentina （Fr.） Schroter. The EC50 values of extract were 1.6162, 1.6811, 1.1253, 3.5771, 1.7024, 2.2284, and 2.2221 g L^-1, respectively, and the EC50 values of 1,2-dimethoxy-4（2-propenyl） benzene were 0.1021, 0.0997, 0.0805, 0.1742, 0.1503, 0.1853, and 0.1924 g L^-1, respectively. 1,2-Dimethoxy-4（2-propenyl） benzene also inhibited spores germination of T. paradoxa （de Seynes） V. Hohnel and F. oxysporum f. sp. niveum （E. F. Smith） Syn. et Hans., with the inhibitory rates of 98.81 and 100% at a concentration of 0.4 g L^-1 after 8 h, respectively. 1,2-Dimethoxy-4（2-propenyl） benzene is a potential botanical antifungal agent for controling of plant fungal diseases.

Aim:To evaluate whether estrogen receptor α(Er-α)and vitamin D receptor(VDr)genes are associated with the age at menarche in Chinese ***:A total of 390 pre-menopausal Chinese women were genotyped at the Er-α pvuII,XbaI,and VDr Apal loci using polymerase chain reaction(pCr)-restriction frag-ment length polymorphism(rFLp).results:Neither the Er-α gene nor the VDrgene individually had significant effects on the age at menarche in our subjects(p>0.10).However,evidence of interaction effects between the two genes wereobserved:with the aa genotype at the VDr ApaI locus,subjects with haplotypepX at the Er-α gene had,on average,6 months later onset of menarche than thenon-carriers(p=0.01).Conclusion:We found that neither the Er-α gene or theVDr gene had a significant association with the age at menarche ***,potential interaction effects between the two genes were observed inChinese women.

AIM: To observe the gene expression change of eNOSmrNA and iNOSmrNA in the small and large intestines with acute liver failure (ALF), and to reveal the biological function of NO on the pathogenesis of ALF and multiple organs dysfunction at the molecular level. METHODS: Sixty male Wistar rats were selected, weighing from 250g to 350g, and divided into 5 groups randomly: SO, ALF (6h, 12h), L-Arg, L-NAME, L-Arg and L-NAME, each group with 10 rats. The dose of L-Arg was ***(-1), and L-NAME was ***(-1), the reagents diluted by normal saline were injected through tail vein 30 minutes pre and post operation. The rats in the ALF group were respectively sacrificed postoperatively at 6h, 12h, and the rats in the other groups were sacrificed postoperatively at 6h. The tissues of small and large intestines were harvested in 4% paraforaldehyde containing the reagent of DEpC and fixed at 6h, embedded in paraffin, and 4 microm section was cut. The expression of eNOSmrNA and iNOSmrNA in these tissues was determined with in situ hybridization, and analyzed with the imaging analysis system of CMM-3 and SpSS statistical software. rESULTS: The expression of eNOSmrNA in the large intestine and iNOSmrNA in the small and large intestines increased significantly at 6h after ALF, but the expression of iNOSmrNA in the small and large intestines reduced notably at 12h after ALF (ppression of eNOSmrNA in the large intestine and iNOSmrNA in the small and large intestines decreased significantly with the reagents of L-Arg at 6h ALF, but the expression of eNOSmrNA and iNOSmrNA in the small and large intestines decreased totally with the reagents of L-NAME or association with L-Arg 6h ALF. CONCLUSION: The expression of eNOSmrNA in the large intestine increased notably at the early stage of ALF, NO induced by the enzyme of eNOS from the transplantation of eNOSmrNA can protect the function of the large intestine, the high expression of iNOSmrNA is involved in the damaged fu

Aim:To simultaneously investigate the contribution of the alpha 1 chain of col-lagen type 1(COLlAl)and alpha2-HS-glycoprotein(AHSG)genes to the varia-tion of bone geometric parameters in both Caucasians and ***:Sixhundred and five Caucasian individuals from 157 nuclear families and 1228 Chi-nese subjects from 400 nuclear families were genotyped at the AHSG-Sacl,COLIA1-pCOL2 and Spl polymorphisms using polymerase chain reaction(pCr)-restric-tion fragment length polymorphism(rFLp).5 FN bone geometric parameters werecalculated based on bone mineral density and bone area of femoral neck(FN)measured by dual energy X-ray *** stratification,totalfamily association,within-family association,and linkage tests were performed bythe quantitative transmission disequilibrium test ***:The t-testshowed the significant differences of all bone geometric phenotypes(except ED)between Caucasians and Chinese in the offspring using both unadjusted andadjusted(by age,height,weight,and gender)*** Caucasians,we foundsignificant within-family association results between the COLlAl-Spl polymor-phism(rs1800012)and cross sectional area(CSA),cortical thickness(CT),endocortical diameter(ED),buckling ratio(Br)(p=0.018,0.002,0.023,and 0.001,respectively);the COLlAl-Spl polymorphism also detected significant linkagewith Br(p=0.039).In the population of china,the within-family associationsbetween the COLlAl-pCOL2 polymorphism(rs1107946)and CT,Br were signifi-cant(p=0.012 and 0.008,respectively).Furthermore,evidence of linkage wereobserved between the AHSG-Sacl polymorphism(rs4918)and CT,Br(p=0.042and 0.014,respectively)in Caucasians,but not in ***:Ourresults suggest that the COLlAl gene may have significantly association withbone geometry in both Caucasians and Chinese,and the AHSG gene may belinked to bone geometry in Caucasians,but not in *** study representsour first efforts on investigating the importance of the COLlAl and A

In order to understand land use/land cover changes （LUCC） and the eco-environment response to LUCC in farming- pastoral zone of the northern china during the recent twenty years, Baotou prefecture was selected as a case study area for investigation and quantitative evaluation. Technologies of remote sensing （rS）, global positioning system （GpS）, geographic information system （GIS）, and other statistical methods were employed to implement. results showed that：（1） During the recent twenty years, the areas of forest lands, grasslands and water were reduced, whereas the areas of other types were enlarged. parts of forest lands, grasslands, and waters had become farmlands, and about 31.5% of the changed grasslands transferred into unused lands. The newly increased farmlands mainly came from grasslands and unused lands. And the newly increased construction lands mainly came from grasslands and farmlands. （2） regional eco- environmental quality decreased by 12.6%, for which the land degradation （especially the meadow degeneration） and the developing of the cultivated land were mainly responsible, and their contributions to the regional eco-environment changes were 51.84 and 23.63% respectively. （3） The tendency of LUCC and the eco-environment response to LUCC displayed spatial heterogeneity. It can be concluded that the present agricultural production mode was not sustainable in farming-pastoral zone of northern china. Land degradation, especially meadow degradation induced by over-trampling and overgrazing, and developing of cultivated land were mainly responsible for regional eco-environment deterioration. Changing the cultivated land to forest or grass, however, can relieve deterioration of local eco-environment to some extents. And in the farming-pastoral zone in the northern china, evaluating regional eco-environment responses to LUCC was very necessary due to its fragile eco-environments.
