A new method for chromate cleaning production, named chromite caustic fusion process, is advanced by institute of Chemical Metallurgy, the chinese academy of sciences. With sodium hydroxide as reaction medium, the new process is composed of three procedures: liquid phase oxidation of chromite, metastable phase separation and carbonation ammonium transition. Generally illustrating the new process and its features, this paper mainly studies the thermodynamics of chromite oxidation. The new process has much better practical results than the conventional chromate production process in which sodium carbonate is used as reaction medium. The superiority is also shown through thermodynamic studies.

The microstructure development of Pd77.5Au6si16.5 alloy droplet solidified in a drop tube process was studied. It was found that two distinct microstructures, i.e. (Pd,Au)3si primary phase and Pd+(Pd,Au)3si eutectic can be obtained when the droplet diameter is within the range between 2.3~0.4 mm. The morpologies of the (Pd,Au)3si developed from dendrite trunk-like with single branching only into dendrite cluster-like with ternary branching with the decrease of the droplet diameter. When the droplet diameter is about 0.25 mm, the primary phase (Pd,Au)3si almost disappears and the microstructure mainly shows Pd+(Pd,Au)3si eutectic. The morphology of the eutectic transforms from fiber-like to plate-like with the decrease of the droplet diameter in the range between 2.3-0.25 mm. When the droplet diameter is about 0.19 mm, the microstructure is only the single phase of Pd solid solution

A large volume of bacterially produced precipitates are generated during the bio-treatment of heavy metal *** composition of the bacterially produced precipitates and its effects on sulfate reducing bacteria (sRB) in copper-containing waste stream were evaluated in this *** elemental composition of the microbial precipitate was studied using electrodispersive X-ray spectroscopy (EDX),and it was found that the ratio of s:Cu was *** with the results of copper distribution in the sRB metabolism culture,which was analyzed by the sequential extraction procedure,copper in the precipitates was determined as covellite (Cus).The bacterially produced precipitates caused a decrease of the sulfate reduction rate,and the more precipitates were generated,the lower the sulfate reduction rate *** particle sizes of bacterially generated covellite were ranging from 0.03 to 2 m by particles size distribution (PsD) analysis,which was smaller than that of the sRB *** electron microscopy (TEM) analysis showed that the microbial covellite was deposited on the surface of the *** effects of the microbial precipitate on sRB metabolism were found to be weakened by increasing the precipitation time and adding microbial polymeric substances in later *** results provided direct evidence that the sRB activity was inhibited by the bacterially produced covellite,which enveloped the bacterium and thus affected the metabolism of sRB on mass transfer.

In summary, we have demonstrated a convenient yet highly efficient method forthe preparation of PE-based graft copolymers via ATRP.. By introducing a small amount of styrenegroups into PE chains via the selective copolymerization of ethylene with 1,4-divinylbenzenecatalyzed by Et(Ind)_2ZrCl_2/MAO, the multifunctional ATRP initiator of1-chloroethylbenzene-containing PE was readily achieved by a quantitative hydrochlorination reactionand was shown to be very effective for the initiation of graft polymerization of MMA and styrene toprepare structurally well-defined PE-based graft copolymers.

The effect of super-gravity on electrochemical deposition of nickel from aqueous solution was studied. The sEM pictures show that the microstructure of nickel film deposited under the super-gravity condition is finer and more uniform compared with that obtained in normal gravity condition, and the crystal grains diminish with the increase of super-gravity coefficient. The XRD patterns indicate that the arrangement of crystalline grains of nickel film deposited under the super-gravity field is more regular, and the crystalline grain sizes decrease with the increase of super-gravity coefficient. Toughness, tensile stress and hardness of the nickel film are markedly raised with the increase of super-gravity coefficient, and hydrogen content in the nickel film decreases with the increase of super-gravity coefficient. From the polarization curves of hydrogen evolution reaction under the super-gravity condition, a significant reduction of over-potential on electrode was found when current density increased. The process of hydrogen evolution reaction was enhanced under the super-gravity condition. The electro-deposition rate, the microstructure and properties of deposited nickel film under super-gravity condition were still affected by the relative orientation between inertia force and depositing surface. It is favorable to gain the nickel film with better mechanic properties when inertia force orientates vertically towards depositing surface. Rigid polyurethane foams blown by varying water level were prepared in this study. The structures and physical properties of rigid polyurethane foams blown by water were measured with FT-IR, universal testing machine (Instron3365), scanning electron microscope (sEM) and differential scanning calorimeter (DsC). The results show that polyurea and polybiuret were the typical charac- teristics, and the cream time and gel time were shorter for the fully water blown rigid foams than that for the fully cyclopentane blown foams. The density of foam samples decreased from 45.0 kg/m3 to 27.4 kg/m3 with the increase of water level from 3 pph to 7 pph. Compressive strength exhibited the similar behavior with density. The average cell size of foam samples ranged from 241 μm to 356 μm with the increase of water level from 3 pph to 7 pph, respectively. At the same time, poorer dimen- sional stability was encountered with the increase of average cell size due to fast diffusion rate of CO2 out of the foam. The results of thermal analysis show that the glass transition temperature (Tg) shifted to a higher temperature with the increase of isocyanate level when more water was used as chemical blowing agent.

Many aspects of the behavior of surfactants have not been well understood due to the coupling of many different mechanisms. Computer simulation is, therefore, attractive in the sense that it can explore the effect of different mechanisms separately. In this paper, the shapes, structures and sizes of sodium dodecylbenzenesulfonate (sDBs) micelles under different con-centrations in an oil/water mixture were studied via molecular dynamics (MD) simulations using a simplified atomistic model which basically maintains the hydrophile and lipophile properties of the surfactant molecules. Above the critical micellar concentration (cmc), surfactant molecules ag-gregate spontaneously to form a wide variety of assemblies, from spherical to rodlike, wormlike and bilayer micelles. Changes in their ratios of the principle moments of inertia (g1/g3, g2/g3) in-dicated the transition of micelle shapes at different concentrations. The aggregation number of micelle is found to have a power-law dependence on surfactant concentration.
