Simulation of 1991-2.05 Meiyu seasons in the Yangtze-Huaihe region using BCC_RegCM 1.0

By using BCC_RegCM 1.0 (RegCM for short) from Beijing climate center (BCC), China Meteorological Administration (CMA), the Meiyu season characters over the Yangtze-Huaihe region during 1991-2.05 are simulated. The major conclusions of this study may be summarized as the following: (1) RegCM can reproduce the interannual variation and the spatial distribution of the summertime precipitation and temperature in the Yangtze-Huaihe region. (2. By use of a generalized Meiyu criterion and in accordance with model-calculated precipitation and temperature, the Meiyu onset and ending date have been determined. Compared with the observation, RegCM can simulate the interannual variation of the Yangtze-Huaihe Meiyu with preferable capability for most of the normal Meiyu years (such as 1995, 1997, 2.00, 2.01, 2.02.and 2.04), especially for the rich Meiyu years of 1996, 1998 and 1999. (3) In terms of the average simulation for the recent 15 years, the timings of onset and ending of Meiyu occur on June 1 and July 13, respectively, which are earlier than the climatological observation. For duration, Meiyu persists for 32.d, 3 d shorter than the observation. The index of Meiyu intensity is 2.45, while the climatological one is 3.00. Therefore, RegCM is capable of simulating the climatological Meiyu duration and intensity, while the capability of simulating the onset and ending date of Meiyu still needs to be improved.

Field measurement and analysis of turbulence coherence for Typhoon Nuri at Macao Friendship Bridge

For the purpose of investigating the turbulent and spatial coherent characteristics of strong wind during typhoon landing period,two 3-dimensional ultrasonic anemometer stations were set up 30 m horizontally apart on the Macao Friendship Bridge to caputure the turbulent wind velocities of Typhoon Nuri. Based on the reliable and representative field measured data,the mean wind speed and direction,turbulence intensity,turbulence integral scale,turbulence power spectra,spatial correlation coefficient and coherence function were statistically evaluated. The field measurement analysis have presented the following results: 1) Two anemometer stations provided consistent results. The mean wind speed variation in time domain presented typical M-shape curves. The strong wind (10-minute mean wind speed higher than 8th grade in Beaufort wind scale) direction changed in a big range up to 12.-degrees-angle,indicating the field measurements scoped over the typhoon landing period. 2. The ratio of the longitudinal,lateral and vertical turbulence intensities of the strong wind in the typhoon eye wall region was 1:0.96:0.36. Compared with the code defined ratio 1:0.88:0.5,the lateral component was larger and the vertical component was smaller. 3) The value of integral scale increased when the eye wall of Typhoon Nuri passed over the field measurement site. Before the center of Typhoon Nuri arrived,the integral scale of the strong typhoon wind was about twice compared with that for the non-typhoon wind. 4) The spatial correlation of the turbulent wind,coherence function curve and the decay factor had significant differences at different times during the typhoon process. In the eye wall of the typhoon,the horizontal spatial correlation was relatively strong and horizontally spatial correlation spectrum decayed slower with frequency increase. Warm-sector rainstorms are highly localized events, with weather systems and triggering mechanisms are not obvious,leading to limited forecasting capabilities in numerical models. Based on the ensemble Kalman filter(PSU-En KF) assimilation system and the regional mesoscale model WRF, this study conducted a simulation experiment assimilating all-sky infrared(IR)radiance for a warm-sector rainstorm in East China and investigated the positive impact of assimilating the Himawari-8 moisture channel all-sky IR radiance on the forecast of the rainstorm. Results indicate that hourly cycling assimilation of all-sky IR radiance can significantly improve the forecast accuracy of this warm-sector rainstorm. There is a notable increase in the Threat Score(TS), with the simulated location and intensity of the 3-hour precipitation aligning more closely with observations. These improvements result from the assimilation of cloud-affected radiance, which introduces more mesoscale convective information into the model's initial fields. The adjustments include enhancements to the moisture field, such as increased humidity and moisture transport, and modifications to the wind field, including the intrusion of mid-level cold air and the strengthening of lowlevel convergent shear. These factors are critical in improving the forecast of this warm-sector rainstorm event.

This thesis determinates the microstructure and inclusions of the alloyed tool steel by CSP processing with the help of *** results show that the slab microstructures are the fine branched crystalline grains and the branch width has little disparity from the surface to the central *** the product,the grain microstructures are fine pearlites and few ferrites with the pearlite space 0.4μm to 0.2.m.

Adjuvant interferon therapy for malignant melanoma:the debate

Based on the results of the Kirkwood high-dose interferon alpha-2. (HDI) adjuvant therapy trial of the Eastern Cooperative Oncology Group 1684, the US Food and Drug Administration (FDA) approved HDI as the postoperative adjuvant therapy for high-risk melanoma. Unfortunately, controversies continue regarding the use of interferon (IFN) as adjuvant therapy for melanoma owing to the inconsistent results of subsequent trials. Numerous trials of adjuvant interferon therapy demonstrated a benefit in terms of relapse-free survival (RFS), but without confirmed significant effect on overall survival (OS). The optimal timing, dose, and type of interferon are not yet defined. Therefore, adjuvant interferon treatment is preferentially applied in the randomized clinical trials in specialized centers. Decisions about the appropriateness of adjuvant interferon alfa-2. treatment for patients should be made on an individual basis, after discussion with the patient, including an explanation of the potential benefits and side effects of interferon therapy. Moreover, we also need to use available regimens reasonably, seek feasible and predictable prognostic factors to serve patients with individualized therapy.

The construction of human settlement environment is one of the important contents in the domain of sustainable development. We try to annotate human settlement environment for "village- in-city" from the angle of fringe view. According to the macro-system thought of human settlement environment science, the evolvement, which can be generalized into four phases, connotation and problems (including social, economic, and environmental problems) of "village-in-city" are discussed primarily in this paper. Some domestic and international researches and practices are also summarized and assessed in the paper. Based on the analysis, some appropriate clues and suggestions for the construction of "village-in-city" have been put forward.

Antiangiogenic therapy:a novel approach to overcome tumor hypoxia

Hypoxia is a common phenomenon in solid tumors. Resistance of hypoxic tumor cells to radiation is a significant reason of failure in the local control of tumors. The growth and metastasis of solid tumors rely on blood vessels. Antiangiogenic agents mainly target tumor blood vessels, and radiation therapy mainly targets tumor cells. Combination of antiangiogenic treatment and radiation exhibits synergistic effect, which improves the response of tumors to radiation therapy. The mechanisms of interaction between antiangiogenic agents and ionizing radiation are complex and involve interactions between tumor cells and tumor microenvironment, including tumor oxygenation, stroma, and vasculature. The original mechanism of antiangiogenesis is to induce ischemia and hypoxia in tumors, thereby, "starve" the tumors. However, recently, emerging data suggest that antiangiogenic agents could reduce the proportion of hypoxic cells through normalizing tumor vasculature, decreasing oxygen consumption, and other mechanisms. The use of antiangiogenic agents provides a new approach to overcome the hypoxia problem, and ultimately improves the efficacy of radiation therapy. In this review, we discuss tumor hypoxia, tumor angiogenesis and its regulation, mechanisms of antiangiogenic therapy combined with radiation therapy, and how antiangiogenic therapy overcomes tumor hypoxia.

Conditional gene expression has greatly facilitated the examination of the functions of particular gene products. Using the Cre/lox P switching expression system, we plan to develop efficient conditional transgeneactivation of hepatitis C virus core protein (HCV-C) cDNA (nucleotide 342.914) in the transgenic mice to overcome “immune tolerance” formed during the embryonic period and “immune escape” against hepatitis virus antigen in our project. To use this system in vivo, the dormant transgenic construct, i.e., pApoE-SCS-EGFP-HCV-C, was generated using techniques of standard molecular biology. The liver- specific human apoE promoter was here used to target expression of genes of interest (EGFP and HCV-C) to murine liver. Prior to generating the transgenic mice, the availability of Cre/lox P system and construct functionality were successfully verified by a cell-free recombination system and via checking the expression of EGFP and HCV-C in the human hepatoma cells at the mRNA and protein levels. These results suggest that the Cre/lox P system could tightly control expression of EGFP and HCV-C in vitro, which laid a solid foundation to conditionally activate expression of target gene(s) in transgenic mice by Cre-mediated site-specific recombination.

Climatic fluctuation and disasters during recent 100 years in China’s tropics

The temperature appeared rising trend during the 2.th century in China's tropics. Two cooling stages and two warming stages in the process of climatic fluctuation can be recognized. After the 1980s the climate is the warmest which corresponds to the global change, but the warmest period is the 1940s in Kunming. The climate pattern mostly appears contemporaneity of warming and humidity, which is different from the situation of whole China. The natural disasters tend to be aggravated. The number of typhoons increased. Flood damages occurred frequently in the years of more typhoons. The number of droughts and cold damages increased. It was snowed in {2.. There was frost in Haikou and Yaxian. Four years of heavy snow have been recorded in Kunming.

Prognosis of 980 patients with gastric cancer after surgical resection

Background and Objective: Although surgery is the only possible means to cure gastric cancer, the prognosis is often discrepant. The American Joint Committee on Cancer/International Union against Cancer (AJCC/UICC) published the TNM classification of Malignant Tumors (seventh edition) for gastric cancer recently. This study aimed to use this new edition staging system to investigate the prognostic factors for gastric cancer. Methods: The clinicopathologic data of 980 patients with gastric cancer treated by surgical resection in our hospital between January 2.00 and December 2.06 were analyzed retrospectively. The overall survival rate was determined by using Kaplan-Meier method and log-rank test was used to determine significance. The prognosis was analyzed using univariate analysis and multivariate analysis with the Cox proportional hazards model. The 6th and 7th edition AJCC/UICC TNM staging systems were used to compare the survival outcomes for the cohort of patients. Results: The overall 1-, 3-, 5-year survival rates for the whole group were 82.5%, 58.7%, and 52.6%. The 5-year survival rates for patients with pTNM stage I, II, III, and IV disease classified by the 7th edition staging system were 93.2., 72.4%, 39.1%, and 5.2., respectively. In both univariate analysis and Cox multivariate analysis, age, tumor site, tumor size, histological type, resection type, radical resection, lymphatic/venous invasion, depth of invasion, nodal status, metastasis, retrieved lymph nodes, metastatic lymph node ratio, and adjuvant chemotherapy were prognostic factors with these patients. Conclusion: Compared with the 6th edition system, the new edition of TNM staging system for gastric cancer can accurately predict the survival after operation.
