The scaled boundary finite element method(SBFEM) is a semi-analytical numerical method,which models an analysis domain by a small number of large-sized subdomains and discretises subdomain boundaries *** a subdomain,all fields of state variables including displacement,stress,velocity and acceleration are semi-analytical,and the kinetic energy,strain energy and energy error are all integrated *** advantages are taken in this study to develop a posteriori h-hierarchical adaptive SBFEM for transient elastodynamic problems using a mesh refinement procedure which subdivides *** only a small number of subdomains are subdivided,mesh refinement is very simple and efficient,and mesh mapping to transfer state variables from an old mesh to a new one is also very simple but *** 2D examples with stress wave propagation were *** results show that the developed method is capable of capturing propagation of steep stress regions and calculating accurate dynamic responses,using only a fraction of degrees of freedom required by adaptive finite element method.

Increased concentrations of free circulating galectin-3 are commonly seen in the blood circulation of patients with many types of cancers including colorectal *** studies have shown that changes in circulating galectin-3 levels in cancer patients may contribute significantly to the metastatic spread of disseminating cancer cells by enhancing their ability to adhere to blood vessel endothelium and by helping their avoidance of immune ***,targeting the galectin-3 actions in the circulation may hold significant promise for future development of novel therapeutic agents to prevent metastasis and reduce cancer-associated fatality.

Coupling within Fluvial Geomorphic Systems:Spatial and Temporal Implications

Coupling within fluvial systems relates to the connectivity between the various components of the system. It can be viewed at several scales from local scales of hillslopetochannel and reachtoreach coupling, to larger scales of zonal coupling between the major functional zones of the fluvial system, and to the scale of regional coupling. Coupling influences how the system responds to environmental change and how the effects of environmental change are propagated through the system. This paper provides a review, based largely on previously published work, of the coupling concept, and how the effective temporal scales vary with the spatial scale of coupling. local scale coupling is considered through the hillslope to channel coupling in the Howgill Fells, northwest England, observed over a 30year monitoring period, together with examples from badlands in Spain, and reachtoreach coupling on the River Dane, northwest England. At the zonal scale the relative influence of climatic and baselevel change on coupling through dryregion alluvial fans is considered on fan systems in Spain, Nevada, and UAE/Oman. For large scale regional coupling, the response of the Tabernas basin, southeast Spain to tectonic uplift, is examined. The factors influencing coupling mechanisms vary with temporal and spatial scales. At the hillslopetochannel scale the significant factors are the magnitude and frequency characteristics of sediment generation and removal mechanisms within the context of progressive morphological change. Effective timescales range from the individual event to decadal timescales. At the zonal scale, that of alluvial fans, the significant factors are climatic change, and particularly in the appropriate morphological setting, baselevel change. Effective timescales are of the order of hundreds to thousands of years. At the regional scale, the response to tectonic uplift may take >100 ka to be transmitted through the drainage basin.

A warming-wetting climate trend has led to increased runoff in most watersheds in the Tian Shan Mountains over the past few ***,it remains unclear how runoff components,that is,rainfall runoff(Rrain),snowmelt runoff(Rsnow),and glacier meltwater(Rglacier),responded to historical climate change and how they will evolve under future climate change ***,we used a modified Hydrologiska Byrans Vattenbalansavdelning(HBV)model and a detrending method to quantify the impact of precipitation and temperature changes on runoff components in the largest river(Manas River)on the northern slope of the Tian Shan Mountains from 1982 to 2015.A multivariate calibration strategy,including snow cover,glacier area,and runoff was implemented to constrain model parameters associated with runoff *** downscaled outputs of 12 general circulation models(GCMs)from the Sixth Coupled Model Intercomparison Project(CMIP6)were also used to force the modified HBV model to project the response of runoff and its components to future(2016-2100)climate change under three common socio-economic pathways(SSP126,SSP245,and SSP585).The results indicate that Rrain dominates mean annual runoff with a proportion of 42%,followed by Rsnow(37%)and Rglacier(21%).In terms of inter-annual variation,Rrain and Rsnow show increasing trends(0.93(p0.05)mm per year),while Rglacier exhibits an insignificant(p>0.05)decreasing trend(-0.12 mm per year),leading to an increasing trend in total runoff(1.12 mm per year,p>0.05).The attribution analysis indicates that changes in precipitation and temperature contribute 8.16 and 10.37 mm,respectively,to the increase in runoff at the mean annual *** wetting(increased precipitation)increases Rrain(5.03 mm)and Rsnow(3.19 mm)but has a limited effect on Rglacier(-0.06 mm),while warming increases Rrain(10.69 mm)and Rglacier(5.79 mm)but decreases Rsnow(-6.12 mm).The negative effect of glacier shrinkage on Rglacier has outweighed the

lily(lilium spp.)is an important horticultural crop,but its use is limited due to serious pollen contamination *** are many studies on pollen development in model plants,but few on flower crops such as ***(GA)is a large class of hormones and plays an important role in plant vegetative growth and reproductive *** is a group of the R2R3-MYB family upregulated by gibberellin,and plays an important role in anther ***,we isolated a novel GAMYB,named loMYB65,from lily,which was closely related to the AtMYB65 and AtMYB33 in *** quantitative PCR results showed that loMYB65 was mainly expressed in lily ***65 could be activated by 288μmol·l^(-1)GA3treatment and the loMYB65 protein was located in the nucleus and cytoplasm,and had transactivation in yeast and tobacco leaf *** conserved motif within 226 amino acids of the C-terminal of loMYB65 contributed to its *** of loMYB65 caused dwarf phenotype,unnormal tapetum development,less seeds of siliques in transgenic Arabidopsis plants,the transgenic plants showed partly male ***,silencing of loMYB65 with VIGS(Virus Induced Gene Silencing)in lily anthers caused unnormal pollen development and reduced the pollen *** of loMYB65 in Arabidopsis and silencing of loMYB65 in lily resulted in decreased pollen counts,so we speculate that loMYB65 may be ***,these findings suggest that loMYB65 may play an important role in anther development and pollen formation in ***65 may provide a useful candidate gene for pollenless breeding of lily.

This paper presents an improved group search optimizer(iGSO) for solving mechanical design optimization *** the proposed algorithm,subpopulations and a co-operation evolutionary strategy were adopted to improve the global search capability and convergence *** iGSO is evaluated on two optimization problems of classical mechanical design:spring and pressure *** experimental results are analyzed in comparison with those reported in the *** results show that iGSO has much better convergence performance and is easier to implement in comparison with other existing evolutionary algorithms.

This paper presents a new algorithm for Support Vector Machine (SVM) training, which trains a machine based on the cluster centers of errors caused by the current machine. Experiments with various training sets show that the computation time of this new algorithm scales almost linear with training set size and thus may be applied to much larger training sets, in comparison to standard quadratic programming (QP) techniques.

Cystic fibrosis （CF） is a multisystem autosomal recessive disorder. CF has a reported incidence of 1 in 2 500 and a carrier frequency of 1 in 25. It is caused by mutations in a gene located on the long arm of chromosome 7. With almost 50% of patients with CF now in the adult population, and a very high interest in future parenting （78% of men wanting children）, there is an increasing need to be proactive in terms of advice about reproductive health. Discussion on reproduction should start in early adolescence and be regularly updated by medical staff. The recent advances in reproductive techniques have allowed the development of sperm aspiration coupled with intra-cytoplasmic sperm injection （ICSI）. Spermatozoa can be retrieved from either the epididymis or the testes. Genetic counselling is strongly recommended for both partners when congenital bilateral aplasia of vas deferens （CBAVD） is diagnosed as there is the inevitability of transmitting a mutated CFTR gene, and an increased risk of producing an affected child with serious long-term implications. Most treatment centres, with the introduction of ICSI, routinely screen all males with azoospermia caused by obstruction （other than that caused by vasectomy） or germ cell failure. Protocols usually involve screening for 28 relatively common CFTR mutations. Further advanced testing may be necessary up to a final detection level of approximately 98.5%. Before considering any assisted reproduction treatment, it is pertinent that CF patients receive medical and psychological counselling.
