Cycladophora davisiana (Radiolarian) contents are counted in two cores of the Ber-ing Sea and correlated well with the oxygen isotopic records of ice in the deep core obtained by the Greenland Ice Sheet Project II (GISP 2) and deep-sea sediments (SPECMAP) of the world oceans. Millennial scale climatic events, for example, Younge Dryas and B?lling/Aller?d events, Heinrich1 and Dansgaard-Oeschger1events, recorded by C. davisiana percents are distin-guished from Core B4-2. C. davisiana events b, c1, c2, d, e1 and e2, respectively, corresponding to oxygen isotopic 2.0, 3.1, 3.3, 4.0, 5.1 and 5.3, are identified from Core B2-9. High resolution re-cords of C. davisian are tuned to the oxygen isotopic records in GISP 2 and SPECMAP and the depth-age frameworks are established in the two cores, supplying a stratigraphic base for future paleoceanographic and paleoclimatic studies. High C. davisiana during the glacial periods in the two cores indicate that they can serve as a proxy of the glacial Subarctic Pacific Intermediate Water, which verifies the glacial Subarctic Pacific Intermediate Water brought from the Bering Sea.

Aminohalogenation reaction of β-nitrostyrenes with N-halosuccinimides(N-chloro and N-bromosuccinimides) has been successfully conducted by using nickel acetate as a catalyst in the presence of potassium carbonate and succinimide as *** reaction was easily performed at room temperature under nitrogen gas protection to give dihalorinaed haloamino products in good to excellent yields(60%-98%).The structure has been confirmed by X-ray crystal structure analysis.

A method for analyzing reflection and transmission of ocean waves from a semi-infinite elastic plate with a draft is developed. The relation of energy conservation for plates with three different edge conditions (free, simply supported and built-in) is also derived. It is found that the present method satisfies the energy relation very well. The effects of draft on wave reflection and transmission coefficients as well as on the vertical vibration of the plates are examined through numerical tests. It is demonstrated that the zero draft assumption works well for low wave frequencies, but the effect of plate draft becomes significant for high wave frequencies.

NF-κB-inducing kinase (NIK) is required for NF-κB activation based on the processing of NF-κB2 p100. Here wereport a novel mechanism of NIK regulation involving the chaperone 90 kDa heat shock protein (Hsp90) and *** inhibition of Hsp90 by the anti-tumor agent geldanamycin (GA) efficiently disrupts its interaction with NIK,resulting in NIK degradation and subsequent blockage of p100 processing. Surprisingly, GA-induced NIK degradationis mediated by autophagy, but largely independent of the ubiquitin-proteasome system. Hsp90 seems to be specificallyinvolved in the folding/stabilization of NIK protein, because GA inhibition does not affect NIK mRNA transcription andtranslation. Furthermore, Hsp90 is not required for NIK-mediated recruitment of the a subunit of IκB kinase to p100, akey step in induction of p100 processing. These findings define an alternative mechanism for Hsp90 client degradationand identify a novel function of autophagy in NF-κB regulation. These findings also suggest a new therapeutic strategyfor diseases associated with p100 processing.

Based on the observation of the deep bore cores sampled from the state of Cali-fornia, usa, preferred arranged particulate concentration belts were found in the ultra-slipping lamellae. And the same phenomenon was found again later in the bore cores from the petroleum basin in the Northern Shaanxi Province. It may be the product of the dynamic processes involv-ing tumbling, grinding and compresso-shearing functions, so the spherical particulates with ul-tra-size of nm and mm are called grinding grain. The formation of the grinding grains is related with the ductile-brittle deformation, the lateral pressure of the slipping, and the very low grade of dynamic metamorphism of the rocks. Based on the systematic analysis, it is indicated that some elements like Nb and Ta are enriched in the grinding grains in the granitic rocks because of the chemical differentiation, and that the slipping lamellae bearing grinding grains in mudstone with smear efficiency prove a perfect seal for oil and gas reservoirs. Meanwhile, the paper provides bases for the studies on the fast stick-slip movement and shear paradigm.

The problem of controlling extreme events in spatially extended dynamical systems based on the observation only is studied in this paper. The control method we proposed locally changes parameters of the system in the vicinity of the localized high-amplitude events continuously, without needs of system model and prediction. Considering the specific Complex Ginzburg-Laudau equation based model, we provide theoretical analysis for choosing the effective parameters to achieve the control. Numerical simulations and statistic analysis demon- strate that extreme events can be efficiently suppressed by our strategy with a low cost. In particular, the tolerant limit of observation error and time delay in applying the control are also addressed.

Cooperative communications is a promising technique for future high speed wireless *** systems may be formulated as virtual multi-input multi-output (MIMO) systems where spatial/cooperetive diversity is a key advantage. However,different from MIMO systems,one of the major chal- lenges for cooperative communications systems is that the cooperative transmissions in cooperative systems may be neither time nor frequency synchronized,since the transmissions are from multiple cooperative nodes at different *** existing signal designs for co-located MIMO systems may not be able to collect the cooperative diversity in cooperative communications *** paper gives an overview of recent research efforts on combating the time and frequency asynchronism of the cooperative communication *** focus on the signal designs (or space-time codings/modulations) to achieve full cooperative diversity,and summarize some of the resent distributed space-timing coding and space-frequency coding techniques to combat timing errors and frequency offsets,and in the meantime to achieve full cooperative diversity,in both one-way and two-way cooperative networks.

Leaf cuticle analysis has long been a powerful tool for fossil plant identification, systematics, and palaeoclimatological recon- struction. In recent decades the application of stomatal frequency data that are relied on precise calculation of stomata on plant fossil cuticles to reconstruct ancient atmospheric CO2 concentration made the preparation of cuticular membrane with sufficient size a critical technique in palaeoclimatological research. However, for plants with originally thin and fragile cuticles, e.g., most deciduous plants, conventional techniques sometimes fail to obtain cuticular membranes with sufficient size, or sometimes unable to recover any. This has largely hampered the usage of fossil cuticle analysis in palaeobotanical and palaeo- climatological research. Here, we describe a new method using clear nail polish as a medium to ＂strengthen＂ the originally thin and fragile cuticles prior to maceration procedures. We demonstrate the method by using middle Eocene Metasequoia fossils that were notorious for the difficulty of recovering large-sized clean cuticular membranes due to their thin and fragile nature. Metasequoia, with well-documented and widely-distributed fossil records since the Late Cretaceous and with a living repre- sentative, 114. glyptostroboides, as a comparative reference, bas been widely used as a model genus for the study of evolution of plants, palaeoclimatological reconstruction, and plant adaptation to climate changes. But its deciduous habit produces thin cuticles and makes the preparation of clean cuticular membranes a tedious process. The new method successfully allows us to recover its delicate cuticular membranes with sufficient sizes for SEM observation and stomatal frequency analysis.
