SEDIMENTARY PROCESS OF THE CENOZOIC BASIN AND ITS RESPONSE TO THE SLIP-HISTORY OF THE ALTYN TAGH FAULT, NW CHINA

The NEE\|striking Altyn Tagh Fault (ATF) has been well known as one major point to know the growth history of the Tibetan plateau. Lots of investigations done since 1970’s were mostly focus on active features, particularly on determining slip, slip rate and their distribution along the fault. However, Cenozoic slip\|history of this fault remains poorly understood, and the age of initiation and total offset are controversial. Several Cenozoic sedimentary basins develop in Suo’erkulinan to Mangya regions (Fig.1). Their sedimentary processes are closely related with the ATF. The studies of the Neogene sedimentary sequences and the reconstruction of the paleo\|geography are essential to establish the displacement history of the fault during Late *** at the southern side of the ATF, the Suo’erkulinan basin consists of more than 600\|meter\|thick Pliocene Shizigou Formation below and about 120\|meter\|thick Early to Middle Pleistocene Qigequan Formation above according to the 1∶200000 geological map by Xinjiang Province. An obvious erosional surface can be seen on the top of the lower sequence. Sediments in the Shizigou Formation are characterized by 400\|meter\|thick yellow to red cobble\|sized conglomerates in the bottom, up\|grading to sandstones and grey\|green mudstones. This indicated that the sedimentary facies changed from alluvial fan to fluvial fan and sediments became more and more mature. The upper sequence, the Qigequan Formation, corresponds to an alluvial facies series composed of yellow to white cobble\|sized conglomerates intercalated with lenticular sandstones. Paleo\|current indicators showed that the Shizhigou conglomeratic series were sourced from northwest. Well\|developed syn\|sedimentary faults, normal faults mostly inherited from syn\|sedimentary faults, and some striation lineations on the surface indicated transtensional tectonic environment of the strike\|slip faulting.

Over the past decade,the Chinese tax authorities have been actively supporting the development of the Belt and Road Initiative,by creating a unique cross-border tax and fee service model with Chinese characteristics,which has laid a solid foundation for the establishment of the "TaxExpress" cross-border service *** October 2023,the state Taxation Administration of China(STA) officially launched the "TaxExpress" brand,focusing on one service matrix,two service teams,three service mechanisms,and four knowledge *** brand aims to enhance cooperation between ministries and commissions,promote international exchanges,and establish a framework for effective cross-border tax and fee *** forward,the STA will continue to leverage existing resources to support high-level opening up,by enhancing brand value,improving measures for international tax and fee services,expanding cross-border tax and fee services,strengthening professional talent teams,so as to develop a cross-border tax and fee service system that combines Chinese characteristics with international best practices.

The microtine distribution and its environmental significance since the Middle Pleistocene in Zhangping Caves of the Qinling Mountains

Three microtine species are recovered from the Zhangping Caves of the Qingling Mountains, namely Microtus oeconomus, Caryomys inez and Caryomys eva. They are climate-sensitive ones with different ecological habits, therefore their distribution well corresponds to environmental variations. Statistical comparison of the distribution of fossil microtines and their counterparts nowadays displays that the climate variation of the studied area and its contiguity since the middle Pleistocene are: warm and humid at 493 ka ago, cool and humid at 259 ka ago―cold and humid at 205 ka ago―cool and humid at 28 ka ago, and warm and dry at present.

Comparative characterization of Jatropha,soybean and commercial biodiesel

Oil was extracted from seeds of Jatropha Curcas,in high yields(up to 40% by weight).The extracted Jatropha oil was converted in a laboratory reactor to biodiesel by *** of Jatropha oil and Jatropha biodiesel by GC/MS and GC/SIMDIS showed that Jatropha oil could be readily converted to a biodiesel product through NaOH catalyzed *** resulting biodiesel has desirable properties such as high cetane number and low flash point,which are major improvements over the properties of commercial biodiesel fuels.

The chemical composition of sedimentary rocks is mainly controlled by source rocks. Through examining chemical composition of terrigenous rocks, the tectonic evolution of a sedimentary basin can be modeled. The Turpan Basin belongs to a continental sedimentary basin and its source rocks are derived from the upper continental crust.

CENOZOIC DISPLACEMENT HISTORY OF THE ALTYN TAGH FAULT:GEOLOGICAL EVIDENCE FROM FIELD OBSERVATIONS IN SOUERKULI AND MANGAR REGIONS, NW CHINA

The ENE\|striking Altyn Tagh Fault (ATF) has been well known as a large, active left\|lateral strike\|slip fault that bounds the thrusting systems in NE *** fault has been the focal point in the debate between the discrete extrusion vs. distributed crustal shortening models. Although its active left\|lateralstrike\|slip features have been largely investigated and well documented by both satellite imagery and air\|photo interpretations and field observations, little study has been done upon its Cenozoic displacement history. Questions about the age of initiation and total offset accumulated on the fault remain controversial. A key area to resolve such question is located along the central segment of the fault in the Souerkuli and Mangar regions, where Neogene sedimentary basins well develop and are mostly distributed in three zones, namely from east to west: the Gobiling, Yitunbulak and Yusuale Tagh (Fig.1). Our field investigations were conducted along the ATF cutting the Yitunbulak and Gebiling Neogene sedimentary basins. Two stratigraphic unconformities observed within this Neogene conglomeratic series allow a separation of three major stratigraphic sequences and record the initiation and major deformational episodes of ATF during Cenozoic. An early stratigraphic unconformity occurred between a yellow depositional series below and early Pliocene red\|colored conglomeratic mudstones above. A later stratigraphic unconformities occurred between early and late Pliocene sedimentary series. The lower series below the early stratigraphic unconformities is mainly composed of a conglomeratic rocks containing cobbles and pebbles of basement rock units (mostly mylonitic granites, limestones and quartzes); this series has been poorly mapped and dated; its age could be assigned to late Oligocene to early Miocene; this series tilts to NW with an angle of about 30° and is overlain in angular unconformity by early Pliocene pebble\|sized conglomerates. The Orogeny in the Altaides

Studies of the deformation styles, formation types and isotopic age data indicate that the Altaides has successively experienced 5 stages of orogeny: (1) the Kanas orogeny forming the angular unconformity between the Baihaba Formation (O_3) and the Habahe Group (Z-O_2); (2) the Daqiao orogeny (S_3-D_(1-2) giving rise to the early Hercynian quasi-aulacogen extensional continental crust of the area; (3) the Altay orogeny (middle-late Hercynian) leading to the oblique intracontinentai collision and the formation of large shear arc-shaped thrust system and representing a strong orogeny stage; (4) the pan-Altay orogeny (latest Hercynian-Indosinian) resulting in the uplifting and erosion of the mountains as a whole; (5) the Himalayan movement causing the rejuvenation of fault systems and block uplift of the Aitaides since the Cenozoic.

Paleoenvironments indicated by the fossil mammalian assemblages from red clay-loess sequence in the Chinese Loess Plateau since 8.0 Ma B.P.

Information from eleven profiles of eolian earthy red silty clay and loess of the middle of the Late Miocene to Holocene age have been studied and correlated. A complete summary profile with projected isotopic ages and fossil-bearing beds has been assembled. The profile is subdivided into 12 stratigraphic units proceeding from the lower (older) to the upper (younger) one. The character of mammalian assemblages contained in each unit was analyzed and the corresponding pa- leo-climatic environments were deduced. The environmental character of each period and the change from the middle of the Late Miocene at about 8.0 Ma B.P. up to the Holocene progressed from the hot semiarid and semi-moist, warmer-moist, warm-moister of the Late Miocene. To slightly less warm moist, cool-dry, slight-warmer-moister of the Pliocene; later the cool to cold dry periods alternated frequently with the mild semiarid and semi-moist periods of the Quaternary. Vegetation progressed from the grasslands with sparse woods, wooded shrub-grasslands and subtropical forest-grasslands of the Late Miocene age to sparse grasslands and dry grasslands of the Pliocene; and to sparse grasslands, dry grasslands and tundras of the Quaternary. The climate changes in the Neogene were of low-amplitute in a generally warm-humid background. Those of the Quaternary were of higher am- plitude with a longer phase. Cool or cold dry and slightly warm semiarid and semi-moist climates al- ternated on a generally cool-dry background. The tendency since the start of the Quaternary was the change to more northern and western shift in the Loess Plateau, with progressively cooler and dryer conditions. The dramatic uplift of the Qinghai-Xizang (Tibet) Plateau and the forming and expansion of the Arctic ice sheet might be the main reasons of the more pronounced changes in the Quaternary.

Potash-rich volcanic rocks and lamprophyres in western Shandong Province:^(40)Ar-^(39)Ar dating and source tracing

Highly precise 40Ar-39Ar dating results demon-strate that the ages of potash-rich volcanic rocks in western Shandong Province are 114.7-124.3 Ma, and that of the lamprophyres is 119.6 Ma. The potash-rich volcanic rocks have relatively high (87Sr/86Sr)i ratios ( 0.708715-0.711418) and distinctly negative εNd values ( -11.47--17.54), and are enriched in radiogenic lead (206Pb/204Pb=17.341-17.622, 207Pb/204Pb=15.525-15.538, 208Pb/204Pb=37.563-37.684). Similarly, the lamprophyres also have quite low εNd values (-11.57 - -19.64). Based on the fact that the Sr, Nd and Pb isotopic compositions of potash-rich volcanic rocks are very consistent with that of the clinopyroxene separates, and by integrating comprehensive analyses of their tectonic settings, and extensive comparisons of the Sr, Nd isotopic composi-tions with that of the related simultaneous rocks, it is con-cluded that the potash-rich volcanic rocks and lamprophyres in western Shandong Province were most possibly derived from the partial melting

Geochronological evidence of Indosinian(high-pressure) metamorphic event and its tectonic significance in Taxkorgan area of the Western Kunlun Mountains,NW China

The CL images,LA-ICP-MS in situ trace elements analysis,and U-Pb dating for zircons indicate that the metamorphic ages of the sillimanite-garnet-biotite gneiss and the garnet-amphibole gneiss from eastern Taxkorgan of the Western Kunlun Mountains are 220±2 and 220±3 Ma respectively,and their protolith ages are younger than 253±2 and 480±8 Ma *** samples were collected at the same outcrops with HP mafic granulite and HP pelitic *** assemblage of the sillimanite-garnet-biotite gneiss(Grt+Sill+Per+Q) is consistent with that of HP pelitic granulite at early high amphibolite-granulite facies *** assemblage of the garnet-amphibole gneiss(Grt+Amp+Pl+Q) is consistent with retro-metamorphic assemblage of HP mafic granulite at amphibolite facies *** dating results suggest that these HP granulites underwent peak metamorphism at 220±2 to 253±2 ***,the Kangxiwar tectonic zone was probably formed by subduction and collision of the Paleo-Tethys Ocean during *** ages of the two samples,together with previously published U-Pb zircon dating age,suggest that the sillimanite-garnet schist-quartzite unit is a late Paleozoic unit,not a part of the Paleoproterozoic Bulunkuole Group.
