Analysis of Calcium Content, Hormones, and Degrading Enzymes in Tomato pedicel Explants During Calcium-Inhibited Abscission

This study was designed to analyze the changes of phytohormone concentrations, calcium fraction, and the activities of degrading enzymes during calcium-inhibited and ethyleneglycol-bis-（β-aminoethyl ether）N, N＇-tetraacetic acid （EGTA）-induced abscission of tomato pedicel explants. Added calcium caused an increase in the total calcium content within the abscission zone and produced a corresponding reduction （20%） in pedicel explant abscission. As expected, EGTA treatment produced the opposite effect and resulted in a decrease in the total calcium content, while accelerating abscission of pedicel explants. Hormone analysis revealed that indole-3-acetic acid （IAA） concentrations in the abscission zone first decreased and then increased before the occurrence of abscission in all treatments, with the greatest effect produced by addition of EGTA. Similarly, abscisic acid （ABA）, and gibberellin （GA1＋3） concentrations, and ethylene production were elevated in the abscission zone during the first 16 h before abscission when explants imbibed EGTA. With calcium treatment, the concentrations of ABA, ethylene, and GA1＋3 also increased in pedicels throughout the first 16 h following exposure, but the increase was slower and less dramatic than with EGTA. Both cellulase and polygalacturonase were induced in the explants during abscission and the activities were also strengthened by treatment with EGTA. Calciumtreated explants produced lower hydrolysing enzyme activities than controls throughout abscission. Calcium played a role of mediating hormone balance and degrading enzymes activities and affected on abscission.

The objective of this study was to investigate the contents and distribution of dissolved organic carbon （DOC） and microbial biomass carbon （MBC） at 0-100 cm soil depth under three irrigation treatments, viz., subsurface, drip and furrow irrigation in the greenhouse soil. The soil samples were collected at different depths （0-100 cm）, and the contents of soil total organic carbon （TOC）, DOC and MBC were analysed. The experiment was conducted for 10 yr, during which period the application of fertilizers and crop management practices were kept identical. The results showed that the contents of TOC, DOC and MBC were significantly affected by different irrigation regimes, decreased with the increase of soil depth. TOC at 0-10 and 80-100 cm soil depths followed the order of furrow irrigation 〉 subsurface irrigation 〉 drip irrigation, whereas at the depth of 10-80 cm followed the order of subsurface irrigation 〉 furrow irrigation 〉 drip irrigation. DOC and MBC contents at 0-100 cm soil depths followed the order of furrow irrigation 〉 drip irrigation 〉 subsurface irrigation, and drip irrigation 〉 furrow irrigation 〉 subsurface irrigation, respectively. The ratios of DOC and MBC to TOC accounted for 4.98-12.87% and 1.48-2.82%, respectively, which were the highest in the drip irrigation treatment, followed were in the furrow irrigation treatment, and the lowest in subsurface irrigation treatment. There were significant positive correlations among the contents of DOC, MBC and TOC in all irrigation treatments. The furrow irrigation facilitated the accumulation of TOC and DOC, while drip irrigation increased the MBC. The content of TOC and the ratios of DOC to TOC were the lowest in subsurface irrigation treatment.

The pollen morphology of 11 species of the genus Glycyrrhiza *** one from each of the genera Glycyrrhizopsis Boiss.& *** Meristotropis Fisch.& *** investigated by scanning electron *** pollen morphology,the main differences between Glycyrrhizopsis and Glycyrrhiza are:Glycyrrhizopsis-pollen grains 36.63 × 40.42 μm in size,oblate spheroidal in shape;and Glycyrrhiza-pollen grains 24.47-33.18 × 23.82-31.83 μm in size,prolate spheroidal in *** and Glycyrrhiza should be recognized as two distinct genera based on palynological and morphological *** and Glycyrrhiza are similar in many important palynological and morphological characters,suggesting that the two should be *** Glycyrrhiza,two types of pollen grains,3-lobed-circular or subtriangular in polar view,are found in different species,in accordance with morphological differences in the two groups,shedding light on the classification and evolution of the genus.

An ionic liquid (IL) based on lactate,1-butyl-3-methylimidazolium lactate ([C4mim][Lact]),has been prepared and characterized by 1H nuclear magnetic resonance (NMr) spectroscopy and differential scanning calorimetry (DSC).Since the IL can form strong hydrogen bonds with water,trace water is a problematic impurity in the *** the standard addition method (SAM),the density,refractive index and surface tension of [C4mim][Lact] were measured in the temperature range (308.15 to 343.15 ± 0.05) *** the basis of the experimental data,the parachor and molar volume for [C4mim][Lact],and the molecular volume V m,surface tension γ,molar enthalpy of vaporization △lgHm 0,refractive index n D,and the thermal expansion coefficients,for the homologues [Cnmim][Lact] (n=2,3,4,5,and 6) were estimated using semi-empirical *** estimated values are in good agreement with the experimental data.

The authors investigated the heterogeneous size patterns and dynamic growth of the ramet population of panicum virgatum, a clonal caespitose plant, limited to the space occupied by a ramet bunch and the time of the ramet yearly life cycle, to understand the ecology of clonal caespitose plants in the field, where the ramet bunch generally consisted of more than one genet. Dynamic life tables for ramet populations were established by the replacement of living ramets at the present time with "dead" ones in past time. These tables revealed stable coexisting patterns of isometric and allometric growing processes of ramets in mass and height respectively, which approximately followed the historic trajectory of a density-independent population. The ecology of clonal caespitose plants is further discussed based on the competitively random growth of ramet individuals, including the scale of foraging behavior. In the field, the ramet population ecol- ogy of switchgrass may be a statistical result of competitively random growth of ramet individuals. The foraging behavior of a ramet population could then be presented as a process in which ramet individuals competed with each other for light and grew randomly, while at the same time a relatively stable dynamic growth pattern was apparent at the level of the ramet population, and the functional leaves were placed properly in time and space.

Lymphoid mononuclear cells from chick embryos at stage 16 were collected prior to fetal liver and thymus genesis to study the dif- ferentiation and function of the hematogenic yolk sac and to detect whether CD2 occurs on the surface of lymphoid mononuclear cells. The phenotype and functional activity of the cell surface protein E receptor and the ultrastructure of embryonic E~+ cells were compared with those of mature T *** results indicate 99.36% homology between the E receptors of embryonic lymphocytes and mature T *** similarities,including molecular distribution,motivation,the ability to form an erythrocyte rosette,the structure of the receptor-ligand complex,and the conformation of the signal channel,were detected between embryonic lymphocytes and mature CD2-expressing T *** results indicate that CD2 is already expressed prior to fetal liver and thymus genesis and that its expression is not dependent on the thymic microenvironment.
