Constraints of f(R) gravity in Palatini approach with observational Hubble data

We use the newly released observational H(z) data (OHD), the Cosmic Microwave Background (CMB) shift parameter, and the Baryon Acoustic Oscillation (BAO) measurements data to constrain cosmological parameters of f(R) gravity in Palatini formalism in which the f(R) form is defined as f(R) = R β/Rn. Under the assumption of a spatially flat FRW universe, we get the best fitting results of the free parameters (Ωm0, n). In the calculation, we marginalize the likelihood function over H0 by integrating the probability density P ∝ e-χ2/2 to obtain the best fitting results and the confidence regions in the Ωm0-n plane. The constraints results of (Ωm0, n) = (0.33, 0.41) by OHD only and (Ωm0, n) = (0.23, 0.08) by the combination of OHD+CMB+BAO both indicate that the universe goes through three last phases, i.e., radiation dominated, matter-dominated, and late time accelerated expansion without introduction of dark energy.

In accordance with holographic principle, by calculating the statistical entropy of the quantum field just at the event horizon of the Garfinkle-Horowitz-Strominger dilaton black hole, the information entropy of the black hole was investigated and the Bekenstein-Hawking formula was obtained. The results show that black hole entropy is identical with the statistical entropy of the quantum field at the horizon. Using the generalized uncertainty relation, the divergence of the state density near the event horizon in usual quantum field theory was removed, and the cutoffs and the little mass approximation in the heat gas method of black hole entropy were avoided. Thus, the microstates of the massive scalar field just at the event horizon of the static dilaton black hole were studied directly and a description on holograph principle was presented. By using residue theorem, the integral difficulty in the calculation was overcome, and the information entropy and the Bekenstein-Hawking formula were obtained quantitatively. Compared with the black hole entropy from the loop quantum gravity, the consistency of methods and results of calculating black hole entropy in non-commutative quantum field theory and loop quantum gravity was investigated. By this, the gravity correction constant in the generalized uncertainty relation was suggested and the sense of holographic principle was discussed.

We suggest a scheme to probe critical phenomena at a quantum phase transition (QPT) using the quantum correlation of two photonic modes simultaneously coupled to a critical system. As an experimentally accessible physical implementation,a circuit QED system is formed by a capacitively coupled Josephson junction qubit array interacting with one superconducting transmission line resonator (TLR). It realizes an Ising chain in the transverse field (ICTF) which interacts with the two magnetic modes propagating in the TLR. We demonstrate that in the vicinity of criticality the originally independent fields tend to display photon bunching effects due to their interaction with the ICTF. Thus,the occurrence of the QPT is reflected by the quantum characteristics of the photonic fields.

The TIME-IGGCAS (theoretical Ionospheric Model of the Earth in Institute of Ge- ology and Geophysics, chinese academy of sciences) has been developed re- cently on the basis of previous works. To test its validity, we have made compari- sons of model results with other typical empirical ionospheric models (IRI, NeQuick-ITUR, and TItheridge temperature models) and multi-observations (GPS, Ionosondes, Topex, DMSP, FORMOSAT, and CHAMP) in this paper. Several conclu- sions are obtained from our comparisons. The modeled electron density and elec- tron and ion temperatures are quantitatively in good agreement with those of em- pirical models and observations. TIME-IGGCAS can model the electron density variations versus several factors such as local time, latitude, and season very well and can reproduce most anomalistic features of ionosphere including equatorial anomaly, winter anomaly, and semiannual anomaly. These results imply a good base for the development of ionospheric data assimilation model in the future. TIME-IGGCAS underestimates electron temperature and overestimates ion tem- perature in comparison with either empirical models or observations. The model results have relatively large deviations near sunrise time and sunset time and at the low altitudes. These results give us a reference to improve the model and enhance its performance in the future.

Taking streaming current(SC)as the electrokinetic parameter,this paper demon- strated the electrokinetic chemical characteristics of humic and dannic acids(HA and DA)in sus- pensions including turbid water,coagulated water and HA or DA contained ***, the studies were carried out for determining the relationship between streaming current and zeta po- tential ζ(expressed by eleetrophoretie mobility EM)in above water *** addition,the mechanisms of HA effecting on streaming current within or after coagulant addition and the elec- trokinetic detection principles for HA or DA were also investigated on experiments and theoretical *** results indicated that the change of SC like ζ presented meaningful information con- cerning the degree for destabilization of a particulate suspension,and HA or DA in water could re- markably decrease the effect of inorganic coagulant upon streaming current,which is in accordance with their influence on coagulation.

Clusters of galaxies may contain radio sources if they still experience successive mergers at present. This has been confirmed by radio observations that about 30% of nearby clusters possess radio halos. We present a theoretical pre- diction of radio cluster counts using a semi-analytic approach which incorporates the empirical correlation between radio power and dynamical mass of clusters, and the cluster mass function described by the Press-Schechter formalism. The total population of radio clusters over the whole sky and their redshift distribution are given.

Some algebraically explicit analytical solutions are derived for the anisotropic Brinkman model―an improved Darcy model―describing the natural convection in porous media. Besides their important theoretical meaning (for example, in analyzing the non-Darcy and anisotropic effects on the convection), such analytical solutions can be the benchmark solutions that can promote the development of computational heat and mass transfer. Some solutions considering the anisotropic effect of permeability have been given previously by the authors, and this paper gives solutions including the anisotropic effect of thermal conductivity and the effect of heat sources.

Regardless of all kinds of different formulae used for the traction-separation relationship in cohesive zone modeling,the peak tractionσ_m and the separation-to-failureδ_0(or equivalently the work-to-separationΓ) are the primary parameters which control the interfacial fracture behaviors. Experimentally,it is hard to determine those quantities,especially forδ_0,which occurs in a very localized region with possibly complicated geometries by material *** on the Dugdale model,we show that the separation-to-failure of an interface could be amplified by a factor of L/r_p in a typical peeling test,where L is the beam length and r_p is the cohesive zone *** an amplifier makesδ_0 feasible to be probed quantitatively from a simple peeling test. The method proposed here may be of importance to understanding interfacial fractures of layered structures,or in some nanoscale mechanical phenomena such as delamination of thin films and coatings.

We use the recently released data of lookback time (LT)-redshift relation, the cosmic microwave background shift parameter and the baryon acoustic oscillation measurements to constrain cosmological parameters of f (R) gravity in the Palatini formalism by considering the f (R) form of type (a) f (R) = R β/Rn and (b) f (R) = R + α ln R β. Under the assumption of a Friedmann-Robertson-Walker universe, we achieved the best fitting results of the free parameters (Ωm0, n) for (a) and (Ωm0, α) for (b). We find that current LT data can provide interesting and effective constraints on gravity models. Compared with other data, the LT constraints favor a smaller value of the non-relativistic matter energy density.
