Mainly engaged in geochronology he is now an associated research professor of the Yichang Institute of Geology and Mineral Resources CAGS and is studying for a doctorate at the China University of Geosciences.

A typical HP/MT (high pressure/medium temperature) eclogite from Xiongdian, northwestern Dabie Mountains, has been geochronologically studied using the single-zircon U-Pb, 40Ar-39Ar and Sm-Nd methods. Prismatic zircons occurring as inclusions within garnets define a minimum crystallization age of 399.5±1.6 Ma. 40Ar-39Ar dating on amphibole gives a plateau *** 399.2.± 4 Ma, which is interpreted as a retrogression age of amphibolite facies. This integrated study enables us to conclude that the age of high-pressure metamorphism is older than 399.5 ± 1.6 Ma, suggesting Caledonian collision between the North china and Yangtze plates. Round zircon within the aggregate of quartz and muscovite gives a concordant age of 301± 2.Ma, reflecting a later retrogression event. An age profile of post-eclogite metamorphism is documented, including amphibolite facies metamorphism at 399.2.Ma shortly after eclogitization and later retrogressive metamorphism at 301 Ma. Sm-Nd mineral isochron of garnet+omphacite gives an unreasonable age of 544 ± 2. Ma. which is quite older than that of prismatic zircon and may be attributed to isotopic disturbance by retrogression.

Using the modern tectonic geology theories andmethods such as the plate tectonic analysis, the paleo-struc-ture analysis, the structural-Iithofacies analysis, and the faultrelated fold and petroleum system, and combining with theseismic data, well drilling data and the circumferential fieldgeology, study on the structural characteristics and petro-leum prospect in the Tarim Basin has been carried out. Re-sults show that the Tarim Basin is a large superimpositionand combination basin with continental crustal basement,composed of a Paleozoic craton and Meso-Cenozoic forelandbasins. The characteristics of the basin are: the kernel partof the basin is the marine facies Paleozoic craton, superim-posed 4 continental facies foreland basins. Though the scaleof the paleozoic craton of the Tarim Basin is relatively small,the structure is steady. The petroleum prospect of the Paleo-zoic craton is: multiphase pool-generation and accumulationcontrolled by ancient uplift. The Meso-Cenozoic forelandbasins in the Tarim Basin, which are distributed on the era-tonic circumference and are a long-term subsidence, turnedinto rejuvenated foreland basins after the Meso-Cenozoicperiod. The petroleum prospects are: coal-bed generatinghydrocarbon, abundant natural gas, pool-generation in laterand recent periods, the oil and gas distribution controlled bythe foreland thrust belt. The structural characteristics ofTarim provide it with a superimposition and combinationpetroleum system of multiple {2., multiple reservoirsand multiphase pool-generation. The oil and gas explorationprospect covers two large fields: the Paleozoic craton and theMeso-Cenozoic foreland thrust belt.

Yangla copper deposit is the largest banded skarn hosted copper deposit found recently in the Tethys orogenic belt of Southwestern china. On the basis of the study of distribution, petrology and mineralogy as well as major element, REE and isotope geochemistry, the authors find that the banded skarn, which hosts the deposit, was precipitated from hydrothermal solutions in the form of exhalate sediment. Therefore, the banded skarn hosted copper deposit is a Sedex type deposit, with a series of stacked, conformable lenses underlain by at least one stringer zone. The deposit, intercalated at the contact of lower clastic rock and upper carbonate rock of Gajinxueshan Group, was formed in the Carboniferous ((2.6.1±7.0) Ma), contemporary to the host Gajinxueshan Group. The interpretation of the genesis of Yangla banded skarn hosted copper deposit is of fundamental exploration significance for the discovery of Sedex type copper deposit in the region.

The tight sandstones of the Upper Triassic Xujiahe Formation（T_3x） constitute important gas reservoirs in western *** Xujiahe sandstones are characterized by low to very low porosity （av.5.2.%and 3.62.） for the T_3x^4 and T_3x^2.sandstones,respectively）,extremely low permeability（av. 0.060 mD and 0.058 mD for the T_3x^4 and T_3x^2.sandstones,respectively）,strong heterogeneity,micronano pore throat,and poor pore throat *** a result of complex pore structure and the occurrence of fractures,weak correlations exist between petrophysical properties and pore throat size,demonstrating that porosity or pore throat size alone does not serve as a good permeability *** improved correlations can be obtained between permeability and porosity when pore throat radii are incorporated. Correlations between porosity,permeability,and pore throat radii corresponding to different saturations of mercury were established,showing that the pore throat radius at 2.%mercury saturation（R_（2.）） is the best permeability *** regression analysis and artificial neural network（ANN） methods were used to establish permeability prediction models and the unique characteristics of neural networks enable them to be more successful in predicting permeability than the multivariate regression *** addition, four petrophysical rock types can be identified based on the distributions of R_（2.）,each exhibiting distinct petrophysical properties and corresponding to different flow units.

THE southwestern Guizhou Province has been acknowledged as one of the most important and potentialgold producing areas in the People’ s Republic of china and has attracted world-wide attention since thediscovery of a series of sediment-hosted micro-disseminated gold deposits in the last twenty years. Chertwidely occurs in the gold deposits. Study on geology and geochemistry of the chert may be important for abetter understanding of the forming condition and process of gold. 1 Characteristics of chert THE cherts are characterized by bedded, massived, pseudobrecciated and nodular structures, occurring insynsedimentary fault. The thickness of a chert bed generally varies from several meters to less than 2.meters, with the maximum up to about 70 meters. Host elements are simple and concentrated in thecherts. The SiO2./sub> concentration of the cherts varies from 86.4 % to 95.64 %, 91.95% on average

During the middle-late Carboniferous, the Yumengou Group, a series of the paralic coal-bearing deposits, was formed in North china gigantic subsidence between the Yinshan and the Qinling gigantic latitudinal tectonic zones. In the Yumengou Group the coal-forming actions occurred many times, in which the coal-accumulating actions forming industrial high seams repeatedly occurred, too.

Two sedimentary sections were measured at Tai Co(Co means lake in Tibetan) in western Tibet,*** two sections are almost all composed of clay carbonate beds except in their lower parts where there are carbonized plants at>10 cm depths and dark-colored carbonate clay and clay at 50-70 cm depths,yielding abundant gastropods,ostracods,and *** carbon and oxygen stable isotope values of carbonate,ostracods,and charophytes and ecological features of microfossil communities indicate the following climatic change in the area from 41.4 to 4.5 ka BP:at 41.4-2..2.ka BP,the climate was relatively wet;at 2..2.2..5 ka BP,it was slightly warm-dry;at 2..5-2..5 ka BP,it was warm-wet;at 2..5-2..0 ka BP,it was slightly cold-wet;at 2..5-17.5 ka BP,it became cold abruptly and slightly wet,implying the climate of the last glacial maximum;at 17.5-16.0 ka BP,it was slightly cold-dry;at 16.0-11.8 ka BP,it was slightly warm-wet;at 11.8-10.4 ka BP,it was relatively cold-dry, roughly equivalent to the climate of the Younger Dryas,and at 10.4 ka BP,the temperatures began to rise again;at 10.4-9.4 ka BP,it was slightly warm-wet;at 9.4-8.5 ka BP,there occurred short warm-wet oscillations;at 8.5-7.9 ka BP,it was slightly dry-cold,representing a strong temperature-lowering and drying event in the postglacial stage;at 7.8-6.3 ka BP,it was slightly warm-wet;at 6.3-4.5 ka BP,the climate tended to be cold-dry.4.5 ka BP recorded the maximum aridity since the late part of the late Pleistocene.
