A heavy rainfall system was observed over the Yangtze River during Meiyu season by using dual-Doppler radar systems in the field experiment conducted by the project of National Fundamental Research Planning “Research on formation mechanism and the prediction theory of hazardous weather over china”. The three-dimensional mesoscale kinematic structure and process of a heavy rain on 2. and 2. July, 2.02.are investigated by using the radial velocity and dual-Doppler radar technique. The results show that a southwest-northeast oriented rain band with the length of about 1000 km involves numbers of meso-β or meso-γ-scale convective cells with the size of 2.―50 km. The heavy rain band in the middle reaches of the Yangtze River ex-ists in a low-level wind shear. The interaction between southwest low-level jet on the southern side of wind shear and east wind on the northern side formed the updraft. The wind disturbance, wind shear and convergence generate the convective action. The new cell developed in right rear flank of rain band and moved to the southwest wind area, where the vapor is abundant. This kind of echo can last a long time and developed well. The strong convective echoes are often ac-companied by the meso-γ-scale vortex and convergence.

THE Dahongshan Group (in short DG) and its basement Dibadu Formation (in short DF) in the southeastof the Yangtze Plate are one of the oldest geological units in the Yangtze Plate. It is established in thisnote by means of geochemistry that the system of trench-arc-basin was formed by the subducting at thesouthwestern boundary of the Yangtze Plate in Lower Proterozoic Subera. And the existence of enrichedmantle EMI is argued by the way of trace elements geochemistry. 1 Regional geological setting There is a unit of the typical two-layer structure platform in the southwest of the Yangtze Plate. Themetamorphic basement of this platform is made up of Suberathem Dahongshan Group and SuberathemKunyang Group. Above them, there have covered expansive continental deposits from Mesozoic. A statistical model of random wave is developed using Stokes wave theory of water wave dynamics. A new nonlinear probability distribution function of wave height is presented. The results indicate that wave steepness not only could be a parameter of the distribution function of wave height but also could reflect the degree of wave height distribution deviation from the Rayleigh distribution. The new wave height distribution overcomes the problem of Rayleigh distribution that the prediction of big wave is overestimated and the general wave is underestimated. The prediction of small probability wave height value of new distribution is also smaller than that of Rayleigh distribution. Wave height data taken from East china Normal University are used to verify the new distribution. The results in- dicate that the new distribution fits the measurements much better than the Rayleigh distribution.

Some test statistics of Kolmogorov type and Cramér-von Mises type based on projection pursuit technique are proposed for the testing problem of sphericity of a high-dimensional distribution. The limiting distributions of the test statistics are derived under the null hypothesis and under any fixed alternative. The asymptotic properties of bootstrap approximation are investigated. Furthermore, for computational reasons, an approximation for the statistics, based on the number theoretic method, is suggested.

The distribution of global persistent anomalies shows that the subtropical western Pacific is a key region with high_frequency occurrence of persistent anomalies. Analyses of streamfunction anomalies, OLR anomalies etc. suggest that the convective heating related to Indian monsoon might be responsible for the development of WPA. The results of numerical experiment by two linear barotropic models support the observation.

Recent discoveries of ophiolites indicate that there must be a Palaeotethyan geosuture zone bordering china and Vietnam, which separates the Vietbac block from the South china subcontinent. The Indosinian foreland fold-and-thrust belt bordering Yunnan and Guangxi provided further evidence for the palaeotethysides. The oceanic crust was subducted southwestwards while the magmatic arc migrated northeastwards, and the continent-arc collision occurred in the Late Triassic with the thrusting being extended towards the north or northeast. The features of thrust-nappe structure are discussed, which proved the continental margin of the Palaeotethyan ocean there to be a complicated one. A face-to-face collision occurred first along the NW-striking segment and then along the ENE-striking segment accompanied by transpression or oblique thrusting occurring along the NW-striking one.
