Disaster reduction strategy of agrometeorological disasters is a very complicated systematic project. This paper works out a practical evaluation method of sustainable development for theundeveloped the regions and take Shishan areas of Guangxi Zhuang Autonomous Region of Chinaas an example. First of all, according to the actual conditions of the karst regions in Guangxi and thetheory of regional sustainable development this paper estabishes an index system of comprehensiveevaluation, then takes twenty-eight representative cities and counties within the karst regions ofGuangxi as research objects to evaluate the level of sustainable development. It basically illustratesthe state of regional sustainable development of the karst regions in Guangxi.

Rice (\%Oryza sativa\% cv. Jindao 1187) was grown in open_top chambers which contained ambient and enriched CO\-2. CO\-2.elevation stimulated rice tillering during early vegetative stage. However, panicle dry weight per plant did not change at maturity stage. Root biomass was enhanced by high CO\-2. Root / shoot ratio was increased under high CO\-2.at maturity, indicating more carbon allocation to the below_bround part in rice under high CO\-2.

The concept of crop water requirements is discussed, based on which the calculation modelof crop water requirements is established. In light with crop, soil and meteorological data. the cropwater requirements of major crops in sub-humid and send-arid dryland farming areas of northernChina. including wheat maize , cotton. millet, soybean, sweet potato and potato, are calculated, andthe patterns of crop water requirements of these crops are revealed and discussed in this paper.

In northwestern China, there has been a change from traditional cultivation system （TC） with no mulching and flood irrigation to a more modern cultivation system （MC） using plastic film mulching with drip irrigation. A field study was conducted to compare soil ＇C02.concentrations and soil surface COs fluxes between TC and MC systems during a cotton growing season. CO2.concentrations in the soil profile were higher in the MC system （3.07-92.2.L L-1） than in the TC system （1 2.5-8994 μL L-1） but the rate of CO2.flux was lower in the MC system. Possible reasons for this included decreased gas diffusion and higher soil moisture due to the mulching cover in the MC system, and the consumption of soil CO2.by weathering reactions. Over the whole cotton growing season, accumulated rates of CO2.flux were 3.0 and 3.4 g C m-2.for the MC and TC systems, respectively. When agricultural practices were converted from traditional cultivation to a plastic film mulching system, soil CO2.emissions could be reduced by approximately 100 g C m-2.year-1 in agricultural lands in arid and/or semi-arid areas of northern and northwestern China.

Experiments including two in laboratory and one in greenhouse were carried out to study non- exchangeable magnesium release from fluvo-aquic soils sampled from Daxing and changping counties located in the suburbs of beijing and Mg relative availability of the two soils to plants. In a batch experiment in laboratory the soils were incubated under wet conditions and alternation of dry and wet conditions and determined for amount of Mg released at the 4th, 8th and 12.h week, respectively, after extraction of exchangeable Mg with 1 mol L-1 NH4Ac. The amount of Mg released from the soil of Daxing was higher than from the soil of Changping, which was in accordance with the fact that the soil of Daxing had higher contents of all forms of Mg than that of Changping. There was little difference in Mg release from soils between wet conditions and alternation of dry and wet conditions. About 1%~2. of the total non-exchangeable Mg might be released within 12.weeks of incubation, restoring about 3.%~3.% of the original soil exchangeable Mg. Results of the experiment on kinetics of Mg release from the soils through continuous extractions with 0.5 mol L-1 NH4Ac (pH 7.0) on a continuous flow apparatus in laboratory showed that Mg released rapidly in the beginning, decreased sharply with time and kept stable at 60 and 2.0 min for the soils of Changping and Daxing, respectively. Among the five mathematical models used to describe the kinetics of Mg release, the parabolic diffusion equation best fitted the cumulative Mg release, indicating that diffusion of Mg out of the soils might be the controlling process. The experiment of exhaustive cropping with 1 crop of tomato (Lycopersicon esculentum Mill.) followed by six crops of corn (Zea mays L.) in greenhouse showed that soil exchangeable Mg decreased remarkably with cropping.
