Partial Melting and Its Implications for Understanding the Seismic Velocity Structure within the Southern Tibetan Crust

In order to constrain the crustal wave velocity structure in the southernTibetan crust and provide insight into the contribution of crustal composition, geothermal gradientand partial melting to the velocity structure, which is characterized by low average crustalvelocities and widespread presence of low-velocity zone(s), the authors model the crustal velocityand density as functions of depth corresponding to various heat flow values in light of velocitymeasurements at high temperature and high pressure. The modeled velocity and density are regarded ascomparison standards. The comparison of the standards with seismic observations in southern Tibetimplies that the predominantly felsic composition at high heat flow cannot explain the observedvelocity structure there. Hence, the authors are in favor of attributing low average crustalvelocities and low-velocity zone(s) observed in southern Tibet mainly to partial melting. Modelingbased on the experimental results suggests that a melting percentage of 7-12.could account for thelow-velocity zone(s).

Cuprous and molybdic oxides exhibit extremely effectiveness in smoke suppression for PVC. However, few are the data reported concerning flame retardance and smoke emission of PVC taken from Cone calorimetry relative to the conventional thermal analysis technique. Abundant data from Cone calorimetry have been acquired. Data analysis was achieved through the study of MLR, HRR, SEA tested at irradiance of 2. kWm -2.. The understandable flame retardance of PVC/Cu\-2. and PVC/MoO\-3 relative to pure PVC has been rationalized by their lowered heat release rates and enhanced char residues. The difference in smoke reduction between these two oxides consists in the time scale. As clearly seen under air atmosphere both oxides exert themselves to the afterglow which has been recognized as a dangerous source, in particular in the full_scale fire situation.

The features of nuclear stopping power and multi-hadron production systematically are studied by making an analysis of rapidity distributions of pion and proton at AGS, SPS and RHIC in this work. It is found that nuclear stopping power increases linearly with project rapidity yp at AGS and SPS, but that is not liner at RHIC. It is argued that the average rapidity loss is saturated at central rapidity region at RHIC. For pion distribution, it is found that the phase space of pion distribution distributes uniformly in the longitudinal direction,and a linear relationship of L with log s is given at AGS and SPS. Non-uniform flow model may explain the features of the distribution at AGS and SPS, but may not ex- plain those of at RHIC.

Thermodynamical data of rare earth complexes with amino acid are important for engineering chemistry and fundamental chemistry. However, they have rarely been reported. In this work, a series of crystalline complexes of rare earth perchlorate coordinated with glutamic acid have been synthesized in water medium, and their thermodynamical data, including the heat capacity in low temperature range and the standard enthalpy of formation, were determined. These complexes were identified to be [RE2.Glu)2.H2.)8](ClO4)4·H2. (RE = Nd, Eu, Dy) by using thermogravimetric analysis (TG), differential thermal analysis (DTA), and chemical and elementary analyses. Their purity has been determined. No melting points were observed for all the three complexes. The heat capacity of the complexes was measured by an adiabatic calorimeter from 79 to 370 K. Abnormal heat capacity values were detected for two of the complexes and the decomposition range of one complex was found. The temperature, enthalpy change and entropy change of the decomposition processes of the three complexes were calculated. The polynomial equations of heat capacity in the experimental temperature range have been obtained by least squares fitting. The standard enthalpy of formation was determined by an isoperibol reaction calorimeter at 2.8.15 K.

The upper mantle structures of Himalayas-Tibet have been obtained from the mi-gration of receiver functions of the teleseismic events recorded by INDEPTH-III. The result of migration imaging shows a dipping interface subducting northward from the depth of 100 km to the 410-km discontinuity underneath southern Tibet. It indicates that the lithospheric mantle of the Indian continent had been detached from the crust and deeply subducted to the upper mantle of Eurasia during the Indo-Eurasian collision. This kind of continent-continent collision process is fundamentally different from the oceanic collision.

Acetanilide, adipic acid and potassium hydrogen phthalate were chosen as nucleating agents of polyvinyl chloride（PVC）, and their effects on PVC crystallization were studied by differential scanning calorimetry, wide angle X-ray diffraction and fourier transform infrared spectroscopy. The experimental results indicate that all of the three additives are compatible with PVC to some extent, but adipic acid＇s compatibility with PVC is less satisfactory. The three additives can improve PVC crystallinity, and acetanilide can decrease PVC glass transition temperature（T）and narrow PVC melting range, while adipic acid and potassium hydrogen phthalate rise T of PVC and widen its melting range. All additives do not affect PVC crystal system and all g samples are in orthorhombic system. All additives can improve （2.0）, （110）, （2.0） and （2.1, 111） planes growing. Moreover, acetanilide and adipic acid can shrink PVC spacings and improve the crystal perfection of PVC, but potassium hydrogen phthalate swells spacings and reduces the perfection of PVC crystal.
