AIM: To investigate the effects of 15-deoxy-△12.14-prostaglandin J2.(15d-PGJ2. on cell proliferation and apoptosis in ECV304 endothelial cells and related molecular mechanism. METHODS: MTT, Hoechst332.8, TUNEL, Flow cytometry, DNA ladder, RT-PCR, Western blot, and electrophoretic mobility shift assay (EMSA) analysis were employed. The Denglou Cape, southwest of the Leizhou Peninsula, is the most typical tropical coast in the continent of *** coastal geomorphic development basics of the geology and Quaternary environment change are discussed. Aerial photograph interpretation with fieldwork is applied to draw the outlines of geomorphic types. Based on the investigative data, the exogenic forces and marine organism conditions concerning tropical coast development in the area are expounded, and coastal dynamo-deposition geomorphic bodies are analysed, mainly with sea cliff-abrasion platform,barrier-lagoon system, modern beach, coral reef and mangrove tidal flat, and the general process of coastal evolution at this area, as well as coastline changes since middle Holocene transgression.

The Kunlun Mountains is situated in the north margin of the Tibetan plateau and is one of crucial areas for unraveling the tectonic evolutionary history of the plateau and Eurasia. However, there is no widely accepted model for this area. One of the reasons is that some basic issues for the tectonic reconstruction have not been well settled, they are: (1) Is the Kunlun Mountains an ancient accretion prism, or a mini continent with old basement?(2. What is the age of the Kudi ophiolite, early Paleozoic or late Paleozoic?(3) When did the South Kunlun Block accrete to the Tarim Block?(4) Do the fifth and the forth sutures represent different oceans, or they are just the chronologically different relics of the same ocean?(5) Did the Kunlun Mountains experience continuous subduction since Neoproterozoic?(6) When did the Paleo\|Tethys closed in the West Kunlun range?

This paper continues discussing the problems of numerically solving the shallow water circulation on the basis of ref. 1, For the numerical method proposed in ref. 1, we applied a storage method with dense matrices, which abandoned usual bandwidth concept and attained the intention of saving interior storage, computing time and amount of preparing work before computing. The circulation considered the effect of small islands was successfully simulated by specially dealing with the bottom friction terms and the boundary conditions. In addition, we discussed the action of bottom friction on the dissipation of tidal energy and its effect on stability of period motion.

AIM:To investigate the effect of the G-1666A polymorphism in the multidrug resistance related protein-1 (MRP1) on outcome of hepatocellular carcinoma (HCC). METHODS:A cohort of 162.patients with surgically resected HCC who received no postsurgical treatment until relapse was studied. Genotyping was performed by polymerase chain reaction-restriction fragment length polymorphism analysis. Electrophoretic mobility shift assay (EMSA) was used to evaluate the influence of the G-1666A polymorphism on the binding affinity of the MRP1 promoter with its putative transcription factors. RESULTS:Kaplan-Meier analysis showed that patients with GG homologues had a reduced 4-year disease-free survival compared with those carrying at least one A allele (P = 0.011). Multivariate Cox regression analysis indicated that the-1666GG genotype represented an independent predictor of poorer disease-free survival [hazard ratio (HR) = 3.067,95% confidence interval (CI):1.587-5.952.P = 0.001],and this trend became worse in men (HR = 3.154,95% CI:1.604-6.2.1,P = 0.001). A similar association was also observed between 4-year overall survival and the polymorphism in men (HR = 3.342.95% CI:1.474-7.576,P = 0.004). Moreover,EMSA suggested that the G allele had a stronger binding affinity to nuclear proteins. CONCLUSION:The MRP1-1666GG genotype predicted a worse outcome and was an independent predictor of poor survival in patients with HCC from Southeast china.

Aim:To purify and characterize the coagulant protein FIa from Daboia russellisiamensis (Myanmar) ***:FIa was purified from Daboia russellisiamensis (Myanmar) venom by ion-exchange chromatography on CM-SephadexC-50,and gel filtration on Sephadex G-75 and a Superdex 75 *** hemo-static activity of FIa was determined by the method of Williams and *** chromogenic substrates were used respectively to determine the activa-tion of factor X and *** fibrinogen-clotting activity of FIa wasdetermined by the method of Gao et *** saline was used as a negativecontrol while factor Xa and thrombin were used as positive controls,***:FIa,a coagulant protein,was achieved by ion-exchange chromatogra-phy and gel filtration with a molecular weight of 34 479 and an isoelectric point *** was shown to have strong hemostatic *** hemostatic activity of0.5 mg FIa was equal to that of 1.562. u *** primarily activated factor X,however,had no influence on prothrombin,nor did it cleave or clot ***:FIa is a factor X-activating enzyme,which could activate factor X tofactor Xa,but has no effect on prothrombin and fibrinogen.

AIM: To identify whether JTE-52. can induce apoptosis in AGS cells and ROS also involved in the process, and to investigate the changes in NF-kB, p53, bcl-2.and caspase in the apoptosis process. METHODS: Cell culture, MTT, Electromicroscopy, agarose gel electrophoresis, lucigenin, Western blot and electrophoretic mobility shift assay (EMSA) analysis were employed to investigate the effect of JTE-52. on cell proliferation and apoptosis in AGS cells and related molecular mechanisms. RESULTS: JTE-52. inhibited the growth of AGS cells and induced the apoptosis. Lucigenin assay showed the generation of ROS in cells under incubation with JTE-52.. The increased ROS generation might contribute to the induction of AGS cells to apoptosis. EMSA and Western blot revealed that NF-kB activity was almost completely inhibited by preventing the degradation of IkBalpha. Additionally, by using Western blot we confirmed that the level of bcl-2.was decreased, whereas p53 showed a great increase following JTE-52. treatment. Their changes were in a dose-dependent manner. CONCLUSION: These findings suggest that reactive oxygen species, NF-kB, p53, bcl-2.and caspase-3 may play an important role in the induction of apoptosis in AGS cells after treatment with JTE-52..
