The low-abundantly expressed genes composed the majorities of the mRNAs expressed in the central nervous system (CNS), and were thought to be important for the normal brain functions. Through differential screening a low-abundance cDNA sublibrary with mRNA from neuropathic pain of chronic constriction injury (CCI) model, we have identified a novel rat gene, rat spinal-cord expression protein 4 gene (RSEP4). The total length of RSEP4 cDNA is 2.06 bp, with a 501 nucleotide open reading frame (ORF) that encodes a 167 amino acid polypeptide. Northern blot revealed that RSEP4 was expressed specifically in the CNS. In situ hybridization showed that the mRNA of RSEP4 was strongly expressed in the CA1, CA2. CA3 and DG regions of hippocampus, the Purkinje cells of cerebellum, and the small sensory neurons of dorsal horn and large motor neurons of ventral horn of spinal cord. Over-expression of RSEP4-EGFP fusion protein in the human embryonic kidney 2.3T cells showed that RSEP4 protein was mainly localized in the cell cytoplasm. These results suggest that RSEP4 may play some roles in the CNS.

Pollutant transport in overland flow over surfaces with spatially varying microtopography,roughness,and infiltration was investigated using the diffusion wave equation and transport rate-based *** finite volume method in space and an implicit backward difference scheme in time were employed in the numerical solution of the 2. governing *** developed model was first tested against an analytical solution and an experimental study involving overland flow and the associated pollutant transport,subsequently a series of numerical tests were carried ***-point source pollution was investigated under spatially varying microtopography,roughness,and *** simulation results showed that microtopography and roughness were the dominant factors causing significant spatial variations in solute *** the spatially varying microtopography was replaced by a smooth surface,the result was an overestimation of the solute rate at the outlet of the *** the other hand,when the spatially varying roughness was replaced by the average roughness and spatially varying infiltration rate by the average infiltration rate,the pollutant discharge at the outlet of the upland was not significantly *** numerical results further showed that one cannot ignore the spatial variations of slope and roughness when investigating the local pollutant concentration distribution.

Intergenric protoplast fusion between Aspergillus terreus CA99 and Monascus anka M-3, the high and low producers of monacolin K respectively,was performed for enhancement of monacolin K production. The 2.-hour-old mycelia of A. terreus CA99 and M. anka M-3 were treated with 0.5% lywallzyme, 0.3% snailase and 0.3% cellulase at 34℃ for 5 h and at 30℃ for 3.5 h, and their protoplasts formation reached 1.76×107/mL and 1.68×107/mL respectively. Parental protoplasts were irradiated with a 30 W UV light away from 30 cm for 3 min and then mixed. The mixture was incubated with 30% PEG 6000 for 15 min. The reviving fusants were isolated on the regeneration plates. Of the 363 fusants isolated, over 100 showed enhanced monacolin K production compared with the parental strain M. anka M-3. Ten of them produced monacolin K about 1.6-fold of that *** M-3 does and the monacolin K titer of two fusants (F49 and F104) increased by about 1-fold. The monacolin K yields of F49 and F104 were 460 μg/mL and 457 μg/mL respectively. In optimized fermentation medium, the monacolin K titer of F49 reached 12.6 μg/mL.

This paper is devoted to the analysis of the Cauchy problem for a system of PDEs arising in radiative hydrodynamics. This system, which comes from the so-called equilibrium diffusion regime, is a variant of the usual Euler equations, where the energy and pressure functionals are modified to take into account the effect of radiation and the energy balance containing a nonlinear diffusion term acting on the temperature. The problem is studied in the multi-dimensional framework. The authors identify the existence of a strictly convex entropy and a stability property of the system, and check that the Kawashima-Shizuta condition holds. Then, based on these structure properties, the wellposedness close to a constant state can be proved by using fine energy estimates. The asymptotic decay of the solutions are also investigated.

To overcome the performance limitation of multipath time-delay estimation posed by underwater acoustic sinusoidal signals, an approach incorporating the frequency-domain weighting of the highly oscillatory Nonlinear Least Squares （NLS） cost function with the evolu- tionary optimization was proposed to facilitate the accurate estimation of the multipath timedelay of sinusoidal signals. In the described method, the number of the effective multipath signals, which is included into the parameter model as well as the multipath time-delay and amplitude factor, can be estimated simultaneously thus avoiding the requirement of additional computation. The experimental results performed with numerical simulation and sea-trial data are provided, demonstrating the effectiveness and precision enhancement of the proposed algorithm.

To tackle multi collinearity or ill-conditioned design matrices in linear models,adaptive biasedestimators such as the time-honored Stein estimator,the ridge and the principal component estimators havebeen studied *** study when a biased estimator uniformly outperforms the least squares estimator,some sufficient conditions are proposed in the *** this paper,we propose a unified framework toformulate a class of adaptive biased *** class includes all existing biased estimators and some newones.A sufficient condition for outperforming the least squares estimator is *** terms of selectingparameters in the condition,we can obtain all double-type conditions in the literature.

Background and Objective: Although surgery is the only possible means to cure gastric cancer, the prognosis is often discrepant. The American Joint Committee on Cancer/International Union against Cancer (AJCC/UICC) published the TNM classification of Malignant Tumors (seventh edition) for gastric cancer recently. This study aimed to use this new edition staging system to investigate the prognostic factors for gastric cancer. Methods: The clinicopathologic data of 980 patients with gastric cancer treated by surgical resection in our hospital between January 2.00 and December 2.06 were analyzed retrospectively. The overall survival rate was determined by using Kaplan-Meier method and log-rank test was used to determine significance. The prognosis was analyzed using univariate analysis and multivariate analysis with the Cox proportional hazards model. The 6th and 7th edition AJCC/UICC TNM staging systems were used to compare the survival outcomes for the cohort of patients. Results: The overall 1-, 3-, 5-year survival rates for the whole group were 82.5%, 58.7%, and 52.6%. The 5-year survival rates for patients with pTNM stage I, II, III, and IV disease classified by the 7th edition staging system were 93.2., 72.4%, 39.1%, and 5.2., respectively. In both univariate analysis and Cox multivariate analysis, age, tumor site, tumor size, histological type, resection type, radical resection, lymphatic/venous invasion, depth of invasion, nodal status, metastasis, retrieved lymph nodes, metastatic lymph node ratio, and adjuvant chemotherapy were prognostic factors with these patients. Conclusion: Compared with the 6th edition system, the new edition of TNM staging system for gastric cancer can accurately predict the survival after operation.
