Preparation and electrochemical properties of urchin-like α-Fe_2._3 nanomaterials

Based on a facile glucose-guided hydrolyzing-heat-treating approach, urchin-like α-Fe2.3 nanomaterials with controllable morphology and crystallinity were prepared via adjusting the heat-treating temperature, and their electrochemical performances were investigated. The results showed that changing the heat-treating temperature can effectively control the structure and electrochemical property of the as-made products. The urchin-like α-Fe2.3 nanomaterials obtained by heat-treating at 300°C, composed of a mass of the shuttle fibrous brunches, had higher initial discharge capacity(1475 mAhg-1) than those consisting of nanorods formed at 700°C. The above difference is ascribed to the urchin-like samples obtained at the relatively low heat-treating temperature, which, with low crystallinity, large SBET, and well-regulated porous, is helpful to the adsorption of electrolyte and the transport of lithium ion, resulting in the high activity and discharge-charge capacity.

Microwave-assisted reaction of peptide formation by amino acid with phosphate:Exploration of the most possible channels for the origin of life

Microwave-assisted reaction of peptide formation by amino acids with phosphate was studied. The results showed that the products were a mixture of peptides containing dipeptide, oc- tapeptides and cyclic peptides, which could be obtained in a short time. Polyphosphate was also produced synchronously by the intermolecular condensation of phosphate. The polymerization de- gree reached 99% (pyrophosphate 64%, trimetaphosphate 35%) after 2.h at 2.0℃ under microwave irradiation. The intermediates of the mixed anhydrides formed by the intermolecular condensation of phosphates and glycin were determined by ESI-MS. Peptides were also produced by the reaction of amino acids with trimetaphosphate in aqueous solution. The conversion degree of valine reached 46.5% even at room temperature. The cyclic process of peptide formation and phosphate polymeri- zation, regeneration and utilization in amino acids-phosphate system under microwave irradiation was detected and proved. Peptides could be continually formed only by inputting energy into this system. The above recycle may be the most possible process for primitive peptide formation in the origin of life.

Exchange bias for ferromagnetic/antiferromagnetic bilayers with the uniaxial anisotropy being misaligned with the exchange anisotropy

Using the principle of minimal energy and S-W model,the exchange bias for ferromagnetic/antiferro-magnetic bilayers has been investigated when the uniaxial anisotropy is misaligned with the exchange anisotropy. According to the relation between the energy of the bilayer and the orientation of ferro-magnetic magnetization,it is found that the bilayer will be in the monostable state or bistable state when the external field is absent in the initial magnetization state. The monostable state or bistable state of the bilayer,which determines the angular dependence of exchange bias directly,is controlled by the competition between the exchange anisotropy and uniaxial anisotropy. When the applied field is parallel to the intrinsic easy axes and intrinsic hard axes,one of the switching fields of the hysteresis loop shows an abrupt change,while the other keep continuous by analyzing the magnetization reversal processes. Consequently,the exchange bias field and the coercivity will show a jump phenomenon. The numerical calculations indicate that both the magnitude and direction of the exchange anisotropy will significantly affect the angular dependence of exchange bias. The jump phenomenon of exchange bias is an intrinsic property of the bilayer,which is dependent on the interfacial exchange-coupling constant,the orientation of the exchange anisotropy,the thickness and uniaxial anisotropy constant of the ferromagnetic layer.

The El Nio/La Nia and the Southern Oscilla-tion are an interannual phenomenon involved in the tropicalPacific Ocean-atmosphere interactions. In this paper, basedon a kind of simple coupled ocean-atmosphere model forENSO, using the perturbed theory and method, the asymp-totic behavior of solution of corresponding problem is stud-ied. It is proved from the results that the trajectories of phaseplane for coupled ocean-atmosphere model ultimately tend tothe stable attractors separately.

The pilot test of Pt-Pd and Pt-Rh feeds extracted and separated with a new sulfoxide extractant

Platinum, palladium and rhodium of the raw feeds extracted and separated with a new sulfoxide extractant （MSO） were studied in the paper. The pilot test results showed that the percentage extractions are more than 99% for platinum and palladium in Pt-Pd feed, and the percentage strippings are 100% and 99.2. with HCl and ammonia, respectively. The ratio of palladium to platinum is 0.0016 in stripping platinum solution, and the ratio of platinum to palladium is 0.002. in stripping palladium solution. The percentage extraction of platinum is 99% in Pt-Rh feed, and the percentage stripping is 100%. The ratio of rhodium to platinum is 0.0002.in stripping platinum solution. Therefore, platinum, palladium, and rhodium feeds are separated effectively with MSO.

Development of simple sequence repeats (SSR) markers of ramie and comparison of SSR and inter-SSR marker systems

Ramie (Boehmeria nivea L.) is an important bast fiber crop. To study genetic background of this species, we isolated and characterized microsatellite markers of ramie. A genomic library containing inserts of rapid amplification of polymorphic DNA (RAPD) fragments was constructed, and screened by PCR amplification using anchored simple sequence repeats as primers. A total of 2. clones were identified as positives, and 13 microsatellite loci were found after sequencing. The polymorphism of these 13 microsatellite loci was examined and the utility of simple sequence repeats (SSR) and inter-SSR (ISSR) marker systems for genetic characterization compared using 19 selected ramie cultivars. Both approaches successfully discriminated the 19 cultivars which differed in the amount of polymorphism detected. The level of polymorphism detected by SSR was 95.0%, higher than that by ISSR (72.3%), but the average polymorphism information content (PIC) of ISSR (0.651) was higher than that of SSR (0.441). The higher PIC value of ISSR suggests that ISSR is more efficient for fingerprinting ramie cultivars than SSR markers. However, because the SSR loci are codominant, they are more suitable for determining the homozygosity levels of ramie, constructing linkage map, quantitative trait loci study of complex traits and marker-assisted selection.

Developing an efficient freshwater and electricity co-generation device(FECGD)can solve the shortage of freshwater and ***,the poor salt resistance and refrigeration properties of the materials for FECGD put big challenges in the efficient and stable operation of these *** address these issues,we propose the covalent organic framework(COF)confined co-polymerization strategy to prepare COF-modified acrylamide cationic hydrogels(ACH-COF),where hydrogen bonding interlocking between negatively charged polymer chains and COF pores can form a salt resistant hydrogel for stabilizing tunable passive interfacial cooling(TPIC).The FECPDs based on the TPIC and salt resistance of ACH-COF display a maximum output power density of 2.2. W m-2.which is 4.3 times higher than that of a commercial thermoelec-tric generator under one solar *** production rate of freshwater can reach 2.74 kg m-2.*** results suggest that the high efficiency and scala-bility of the FECGD can hold the promise of alleviating freshwater and power shortages.
