Chain Extender-induced Hydrogen Bonding Organization Determines the Morphology and Properties of Thermoplastic Polycarbonate Polyurethane

Thermoplastic polycarbonate polyurethanes(PCUs) are multiblock copolymers that have been applied for medical devices for long time. Aliphatic diols are common chain extenders(CE) involved in the composition of the hard segments of PCU. However, limited knowledge was discovered about how the chemical structure of CE affects the hydrogen bonding organization within PCUs and their mechanical *** investigate this problem, a group of PCUs were synthesized respectively by extending the polymer chain with 1,4-butanediol(BDO),aminoethanol(MEA), ethanediol(EO) as three kinds of chain extenders. Tiny differences in the CE chemical structure results in remarkable variations in phase separation, condensed morphologies, thermal and mechanical properties, which are characterized by Fourier transform infrared spectrometer, atomic force microscopy, small-angle X-ray scattering, differential scanning calorimetry, and tensile tests. The microstructural evolution during unilateral deformation and the different mechanism induced by the different CEs was probed and unveil by in situ wide-and small-angle X-ray diffraction. Symmetry of CE can improve the organization of the hydrogen bonding. The coherence strength of the urethane/urea group also plays a key role by comparing the two PCUs with ethanediol and aminoethanol.

Selective adsorption of tetracycline by β-CD-immobilized sodium alginate aerogel coupled with ultrafiltration for reclaimed water

In this work,a novel composite material based on β-cyclodextrin-immobilized sodium alginate aerogel(β-CD/NaAlg) was developed utilizing cross-linker of epichlorohydrin and applied as an adsorbent to remove tetracycline antibiotics from reclaimed wastewater.A series of characterizations were utilized to confirm the successful synthesis of the adsorbent and this β-CD/NaAlg presented a three-dimensional network at the nanoscale or *** optimal conditions(pH=4,t=8 h,β-CD:NaAlg=9,adsorbent dosage = 1.5 g·L-1),the maximum removal rate of β-CD/NaAlg to tetracycline was 70%.The adsorption behavior of tetracycline on β-CD/NaAlg conformed to the Freundlich isotherm model(R2.0.9977) and the pseudo-second-order kinetic model(R^(2.=0.9993).Moreover,the adsorbent still removed 55.3% of tetracycline after five ***,the adsorbent was integrated with ultrafiltration to adsorb tetracycline antibiotics from simulated reclaimed wastewater,and the removal rate of tetracycline reached 78.9% within 2.*** existence of Cr(Ⅵ) had a negligible impact on tetracycline removal,while the presence of humic acid exhibited a promoting *** possible adsorption mechanisms were also elucidated through X-ray photoelectron spectroscopy and density functional theory *** summary,β-CD/NaAlg represents an environmentally friendly,efficient,and sustainable adsorbent for removing tetracycline antibiotics from reclaimed water.

Liquid metal biomaterials: translational medicines,challenges and perspectives

Until now, significant healthcare challenges and growing urgent clinical requirements remain incompletely addressed by presently available biomedical materials. This is due to their inadequate mechanical compatibility, suboptimal physical and chemical properties, susceptibility to immune rejection, and concerns about long-term biological safety. As an alternative, liquid metal(LM) opens up a promising class of biomaterials with unique advantages like biocompatibility, flexibility, excellent electrical conductivity,and ease of functionalization. However, despite the unique advantages and successful explorations of LM in biomedical fields, widespread clinical translations and applications of LM-based medical products remain limited. This article summarizes the current status and future prospects of LM biomaterials, interprets their applications in healthcare, medical imaging, bone repair, nerve interface, and tumor therapy, *** to translate LM materials into medicine and obstacles encountered in practices are *** that, we outline a blueprint for LM clinics, emphasizing their potential in making new-generation artificial organs. Last, the core challenges of LM biomaterials in clinical translation, including bio-safety,material stability, and ethical concerns are also discussed. Overall, the current progress, translational medicine bottlenecks, and perspectives of LM biomaterials signify their immense potential to drive future medical breakthroughs and thus open up novel avenues for upcoming clinical practices.

Surface pollen and modern vegetation in Southern xinjiang,china

Heterogeneous MXene-based films with graded electrical conductivity towards highly efficient EMI shielding and electrothermal heating

The increasing need for electromagnetic interference(EMI)shielding of electronics in cold environments such as those in aircraft,space exploration,and wearable heaters to avoid hazardous icing conditions or hypothermia requires the development of thin and lightweight EMI shielding materials preferably by absorbing rather than reflecting electromagnetic(EM)waves while also generating heat through energy-efficient electrothermal ***,it is challenging to achieve absorption-dominant EMI shielding and energy-efficient electrothermal heating simultaneously in a thin and lightweight ***,we develop a heterogeneous composite film comprising a porous multi-walled carbon nanotubes(MWCNTs)/bacterial cellulose(BC)film and an aligned MXene/Ag nanowires(NWs)backing via a sequential vacuum filtration *** porous film contains random conductive networks of MWCNTs with moderate conductivity while the aligned MXene sheets atop Ag NWs network affords high conductivity in the backing,giving rise to graded electrical conductivity for absorption-dominant EMI *** increasing Ag NW coverage leads to significantly increased electrical conductivity without increasing the EM wave reflection as well as the density and thickness of the film,yielding excellent specific EMI shielding effectiveness(>8500 dB/(g·cm^(2.)),low driving voltage for energy-efficient electrothermal heating(163℃at 2.5 V),and fast response time(60 s)at a low areal density of 0.015 mg/cm^(2..Combining EMI shielding and electrothermal heating,the heterogeneous film developed here are promising contenders for the protection of electronic equipment in low-temperature environment.

Enhancing electrochemical capacity and interfacial stability of lithium-ion batteries through side reaction modulation with ultrathin carbon nanotube film and optimized lithium cobalt oxide particle size

Lithium cobalt oxide(LCO),the first commercialized cathode active material for lithium-ion batteries,is known for high voltage and ***,its application has been limited by relatively low capacity and stability at high *** particle size is considered one of the most straightforward and effective strategies to enhance ion transfer,thus increasing the rate ***,side reactions are simultaneously enhanced as the specific surface area ***,we investigate the impact of LCO particles with varying size distributions and optimize the particle *** modulate the side reactions associated with particle size reduction,an ultrathin carbon nanotube film(UCNF)is introduced to coat the cathode *** this simple process and optimized particle size,the rate performance improves significantly,normal commercial LCO achieves 118 mA·h·g^(−1)at 3.0–4.3 V and 2. C(0.72.mA·h·cm^(−2.),corresponding to power density of 8732.W·kg^(−1).This method is applied to high voltage as well,152.mA·h·g^(−1)at 3.0–4.6 V and 2. C(0.99 mA·h·cm^(−2.)was achieved with high-voltage LCO(HVLCO),corresponding to power density of 11,552.W·kg^(−1).The cycling stability is also enhanced,with the capacity retention maintaining more than 96%after 100 cycles at 0.1 *** the first time,UCNF is demonstrated to suppress the excessive decomposition of the electrolytes and solvents by blocking electron injection/extraction between LCO and electrolyte *** findings provide a simple method for improving LCO rate performance,especially at high C-rates.

Transdermal drug delivery(TDD)has gained clinical approval over several decades,with extensive research dedicated to novel drug and device *** notable research progress,the mar-ket adoption of TDD devices has not met anticipated levels,with oral administration and injection remaining predominant delivery *** maximize the potential of TDD,we identify bottlenecks hinder-ing its widespread clinical application and propose promising research *** begin by analyzing stringent demands necessary to truly benefit patients,addressing significant challenges in biomechanics,nanomedicine,and flexible ***,we delve into skin anatomy,enhancement strategies,nano-carriers,and their under-lining mechanisms,highlighting the importance and framework of quantitative *** on these discussions,we highlight the core strength of TDD,such as automatic precise administration based on feedback and high delivery efficiencies,especially applicable to localized conditions(e.g.,central nervous system diseases,tumors).Finally,we envision the future of intelligent TDD device and its opera-tion scenario,aiming to steer research efforts toward faster translation of laboratory innovations into widely used products for sufferers.

Coupled Cross-Flow/in-Line Vortex-Induced Vibration Responses of a Catenary-Type Riser Subjected to Uniform Flows

A three-dimensional numerical scheme was developed to investigate the vortex-induced vibration(VIV)of a catenary-type riser(CTR)in the in-line(IL)and cross-flow(CF)*** using the vector form intrinsic finite element method,the CTR was discretized into a finite number of spatial particles whose motions satisfy Newton’s second *** Van der Pol oscillator was used to simulate the effect of vortex *** coupling equations of structural vibration and wake oscillator were solved using an explicit central differential *** numerical model was verified with the published *** VIV characteristics of the CTR subjected to uniform flows,including displacement,frequency,standing wave,traveling wave,motion trajectory,and energy transfer,were studied *** numerical results revealed that the multimode property occurs in the CF-and IL-direction VIV responses of the *** increase in the flow velocity has slight effects on the maximum VIV *** to structural nonlin-earity,the double-frequency relationship in the CF and IL directions is rarely ***,the vibration trajectories display the shape of an inclined elliptical ***,the negative energy region is inconspicuous under the excitation of the uniform flow.

A new learning statistic for adaptive filter based on predicted residuals

A key problem for an adaptive filter is to establish a suitable adaptive factor for balancing the contributions of the measurements and the predicted state information from some kinematic models. The reasonable adaptive factor needs a reliable learning statistics to judge the state kinematic model errors. After analyzing the existing two kinds of learning statistics based on the state discrepancy and variance component ratio, a new learning statistic based on predicted residuals is set up, which is different from the exiting learning statistics. The new learning statistic does not need to estimate the kinemetic state parameters before the filtering process, Of course, it does not need necessary measurements to estimate state parameters for all observation epochs. The new learning statistic can be applied together with the learning factor constructed by the state discrepancy. The advantages and shortcomings of the new learning factor are analyzed, and an example is given.
