IN the study of hydrothermal deposits sulfur isotopes bear much information about the source of sulfur,ore-forming temperature, the evolution of ore-forming fluids and the mechanism of metallogenesis. Todetermine whether sulfur isotopes reach equilibrium between fluids and sulfur-bearing minerals precipitated from the former and among the sulfur-bearing minerals is the key to the application of sulfur isotopegeochemistry to geological problems. As it has been commonly accepted that sulfur isotopic equilibrium could not be reached between sulfate and sulfide below 350℃, little attention has been paid to thepossible mechanism of sulfur isotope equilibrium between sulfate and sulfide below 300℃. SOIL organic matter, a major factor affecting agroecosystem stability, is controlled by many parameters. Itis well understood that cultivation practive would lead to a decrease in organic matter content of ***, small gradual changes in total soil organic matter may be difficult to monitor and detect in theshort term because of generally high background carbon levels and natural variability of soils. On ashort-term scale the measurement of the living fraction of soil organic matter, i.e. microbial biomass C,can reveal early changes in soil organic matter. Our work is to identify the relationship of soil organic Cand changes in microbial biomass C with sea-level elevation increasing. Twelve terrace fields on the slopes at different altitudes above sea level were chosen as sample localities. The terrace fields, different in size, approximately 10 m^2. were used for growing maize. Since Hemming and Hanson(1992.,B isotopic signature of carbonates has been used as a proxy to indicate the paleo-pH value of seawater and paleo-pCO up to at least 13 *** largely depends on the isotopic fractionation factor between B(OH) and B(OH)(e.g.,Spivack et al.,1993;Sanyal et al.,1995;Palmer et al., 1998;Pearson and Palmer,1999;Sanyal et al.,2.00;Palmer and Pearson,2.03).However,the B isotope proxy was questioned recently for the unclear mechanisms of B incorporation into carbonates(e.g.,Pagani et al.,2.05). Starting with the research status of bio-metallogenesis of Tl deposits and their geology, this work deals with the geological background of Tl enrichment and mineralization and the mechanism of bio- metal-logenesis of Tl deposits, as exemplified by Tl deposits in the low-temperature minerogenetic province. This research on the bio-metallogenesis of Tl deposits is focused on the correlations between bio-enrichment and Tl, the enrichment of Tl in micro-paleo-animals in rocks and ores, bio-fossil casts in Tl-rich ores, the involvement of bio-sulfur in minerogenesis and the enrichment of bio-genetic organic carbon in Tl ores. Thallium deposits have experienced two ore-forming stages: syngenetic bio- en-richment and epigenetic hydrothermal reworking (or transformation). Owing to the intense epigenetic hydrothermal reworking, almost no bio-residues remain in syngenetically bio-enriched Tl ores, thereby the Tl deposits display the characteristics of hydrothermally reoworked deposits.

ARSENIC-poisoning occurring in agricultural areas in southwestern Guizhou Province, china, has been aproblem for half a century. By 1998, over 3000 cases of arsenic poisoning had been identified and morethan 100 000 people from 6 counties were under threat. In 1992.1993, samples of coal, rocks,soil, surface water, ground water, air and food such as chili peppers were collected in endemic and control areas. Samples of urine, blood and hair were also collected from arsenic-poisoned patients as well ashealthy population in a control area. Arsenic content of the samples was determined by Ag-DCCmethod.

Pb, Hg and Cd will affect human health by vegetative chain. In recent years, people more and more are concerned about heavy metal pollution of the soil-plant system. Many researchers studied the effect of single heavy metal on growth, photosynthesis, respiration and quality of plants, but few systematicstudies of the effect of heavy metals on the scavenging system of activated oxygen of plants. This note systematically studies the effect of Pb, Hg and Cd in soil on the scavenging system of activated oxygen in tobacco leaves. 1 Material and methods Material: Tobacco (Nicoticana tabacum L). WEST Yunnan and central Guizhou with variable altitudes and similar latitudes, located in the Yunnan-Guizhou Plateau of the eastern slope uplifting Himalayas, were selected as study areas in this note. Thetwo areas consist mainly of carbonate rocks discontinuously covered by similar soil types with severe soiland water loss except Lugu Lake catchment.
