WC-Co cermet has wide applications in machinery industries as a wear-resisitance *** fabrication of Nanostructured coatings would be more encouraging in tribological surface *** this paper,the nanostructured and conventional WC-Co coatings were depsited on 1Cr18Ni9Ti stainless steel substrate using an atmospheric plasma spray *** microstructures and tribology properties in water environment were comparatively *** was found that the as-sprayed WC-Co coating were composed of WC as the major phase and W2.,WC1-X,and W3Co3C as the minor *** nanostructured WC-Co coating had much higher hardness and more uniform *** water environment,both the nanostructured and conventional WC-Co coatings had the similar friction coefficient under the same ***,nanostructured WC-Co coating had better wear resistance than conventional WC-Co coating no matter sliding against Si3N4 ball or stainless steel *** wear mechanism of nanostructured WC-Co coating is adhesion under 2. N and brittle flake with fatigue abrasion under 150N sliding against Si3N4 ball,while when the Si3N4 ball was replaced by stainless steel ball,the friction coefficient and the wear rate were effectively reduced,and the wear mechanism was adhesion under 2. N and split by crack under 150 *** WC-Co coating was more wear-resistance than the conventional one in water environment,and the friction coefficient and wear rate could be effectively reduced when rubbing against stainless steel ball.

The chiral cluster RuCoMo（CO）8 （μ3-Se）C5H4C （O）C6H4C （O）OCH3was synthesizgd by the thermal reaction of the precursor （μ3-Se）RuCo2.Co）9 with ’thefunctionally substituted cyclopentadienyl tricarbonyl metal complex anions [Mo（CO）3（η5-C5H4） C （O）C6H4C （O） OCH3]- in THF. It was characterized by C/H elementalanalysis, IR, 1H/13C-NMR and MS （FAB）, and its crystal structure has also beensolved by single-crystal X-ray diffraction. Crystal data: Mr=786. 2., triclinic, spacegroup P1, a =8. 2.0（2., b= 19. 631 （7）, c=7.997（2. , a=92. 50（2., β=108. 66 （2., γ=88. 97（2.°, V= 12.8. 5（6） , Z=2. Dc=2. 143g/cm3, F（000） =756. 00, μ= 33. 44cm-1, the final R =0. 054 and R.= 0. 077 for 2.44 observationswith （I≥3.0σ（I））.

Lanthanum phosphate was synthesized. The tribological behavior of lanthanum phosphate (LaPO 4), zinc dialkyldithiophosphate (ZDDP) and their mixture as additives in lithium grease was evaluated with a four ball machine. The morphologies and the chemical states of some typical elements of the worn steel surfaces were analyzed by means of scanning electron microscopy (SEM) and X ray photoelectron spectroscopy (XPS). It is found that both lanthanum phosphate and zinc dialkyldithiophosphate increase the load carrying capacity of lithium grease. Lanthanum phosphate as additive in lithium grease is effective in improving the antiwear performance, while zinc dialkyldithiophosphate shows unsteady performance on improving the antiwear and friction reducing ability of the lithium grease. Lithium grease containing the above mentioned additives experienced chemical adsorption or chemical reactions on the rubbing surface, with the formation of the boundary lubrication film thereon, and hence to improve the tribological behavior of the lithium grease.

Five new quaternary isostructural rare-earth sulfides, Al0.57Gd3(Si0.2.Al0.73)S7 (1), Al0.55Dy3(Si0.34Al0.66)S7 (2., Al0.50Y3(Si0.50Al0.50)S7 (3), Al0.44Gd3(Si0.70Al0.30)S7 (4) and In0.33Sm3SiS7 (5), have been synthesized by facile solid-state reactions. They crystallize in the 3-D ALn3EQ7 structure type in the hexagonal chiral space group P63. The structures feature a 3-D host framework constructed by Ln-S bicapped trigonal prisms, in which the octahedral and tetrahedral interspaces are occupied by A and E atoms, respectively. The investigation of optical and magnetic properties of 4 indicates that it is a semiconductor and behaves antiferromagnetic-like interaction.

This work presents a critical review on the studies of defect chemistry of oxide nanoparticles for creating new functionalities pertinent to energy applications including dilute-magnetic semiconductors,giant-dielectrics,or white light *** is placed on the relationships between the internal structure and defective surfaces of oxide nanoparticles and their synergy in tailoring the materials *** review is arranged in a sequence:(1) structural fundamentals of bulk oxides,using TiO2.as a model simple oxide to highlight the importance of polymorphs in tuning the electronic structures;(2. structural features of simple oxide nanoparticles distinct from the bulk,which show that nanoparticles can be considered as a special solid under the compression as originated from the surface defect dipole-dipole interactions;and(3) new functions achieved through extending the defect chemistry concept to the assembled architectures or multi-component oxide nanoparticles,in which defect surfaces enable the localized electrons or intermediate levels to produce giant dielectric performance or tunable light *** is concluded that understandings of defect chemistry provide diverse possibilities to manipulate electrons in oxide nanoparticles for functionalities in energy-relevant applications.

The reaction of H+ SO2.HO + SO was theoretically investigated sing ab initio MOmethods, and HF/TZV (d, p) level of theory was employed to locate stationary points which werethen characterized by calculation of the vibrational frequencies. Energies were estimated at the optimized geometries using MP2.TZV (d, p) calculations. The results show that the caIculated geometries- frequencies. and thermochemical data were in good agreement with available experi-mental values. The IRC calculations confirmed that nonplanar HSO2.and HOSO adducts shouldbe more reasonable than those of planar conformation.

The title compound Co 3(CO) 9( μ 3 C)C(O)OCH 2. 2.was synthesized by the reaction of Cl 3CC(O)OCH 2. 2.with Co 2.CO) 8 at 40￣50 ℃. Crystal data: C 2. H 4O 2. Co 6, M r =997.88, monoclinic, space group P2. 1/n(#14), a=9.330(2., b=15.197(4), c=11.783(4) , β=91.16(2.°, V=1670.4(7)  3, Z=2. D c =1.984 g/cm 3 , μ (Mo Kα )=30.01 cm -1 , F(000)=972.00, T=2.3K , final R=0.045, R w =0.051 for 1936 observed reflections with I>2.(I) . The structure contains two centrosymmetric dimeric molecules in a unit cell, each of which has two tetrahedral skeletons (CCo 3) connected through a C(O)OCH 3CH 2.C(O) bridge.

Well-defined Si- and Ti-MCM-41 mesoporous molecular sieves were synthesized in high yields through the halogen anion mediated S(+)X(-)I(+) assembly in the presence of cetylpyridinium bromide as template. The spectroscopy characterization of the as-synthesized samples confirmed that Ti (IV) could be isolated in the lattice positions of the MCM-41 mesostructure by this method.
